Learn Chinese with Zizzle

Third update: My subscription issue has finally been fixed. Lukas did a wonderful job in rectifying the problem. This app works very well in helping learners remember and understand simplified Chinese characters. The visual association method being used here is the most effective that I have ever tried and the audio clips are great, too, in enriching your vocabulary. The app is really worth the wait and buying a subscription is well worth it.

Good but some usability issues. I'll be happy to up the rating once they're addressed. On the deck list, is it possible to show which decks are started, maybe different background? And progress, like 10/300 characters studied? Then, after finishing studying a new set sometimes I want to go back to look at one character, but I can't unless I go out to decks list first and then go back in. Spaced rep list needs randomising - it says what the char is on one question, then asks it on next. Thanks

I feel torn writing this review. Mechanically this app is an amazing learning tool. I bought the 1 year membership before the free-trial could even end! I have learned over 4 dozen characters in the past 2 weeks. But recently my progress has halted. This is because for whatever reason the app does not recognize my purchase! That is a really big issue that needs to be fixed before I can recommend this to anyone else. Wait for a patch.

I love the app. It was just what I was looking for. However some of the audio files are barely audible. Also I already paid for a year's subscription and I am being told that my trial period is ending soon. Based on recorded subscription problems I am noting this so that my subscription will be activated immediately. Updated.... I had problems with my paid subscription buy I emailed them and the problem was sorted out.

Awesome dev team! Had a subscription issue & they got back immediately. App is amazing. I wish there was a flashcard mode with characters on one side and on the other side, pinyin, English, sentences & a easy way to go back to the story. It would help me cut down the amount of Chinese resources I use and be really convenient, but this app is worth the money nonetheless! Thoughtfully crafted & crazy effective

so far, this app is great. as a visual learner I am used to studying using association painted in my brain and/ is relating it to a picture and this helps me. but, good thing always has different con, I found out that the pronunciation audio is not simply attached to the example word(s) on radical sections which sometimes push me to go to another app as well to only hear pronunciation. more than that, I may suggest the creator to set up footstep guidance for the absolute beginner -c-

Great content. Love the order that it teaches the characters and that it includes slang in the examples. However, there's a bug where I can't start a quiz if I play any sound while learning the character. I have to restart my phone and avoid hitting 🔊 to start quizzes.

I'm crazy about this app! I've studied mnemonics for years, but the process of coming up with mnemonics for Chinese characters is just too laborious. This app saves you the labour. I have it on my phone, and I use the ancient method of memory palaces to memorise the different images provided. I walk around with the app open , mentally placing the images provided around my back yard, the library, a shop and then mentally review the images on a memory journey later. This app is worth the price.

Great app for learning characters in an easy, logical way. When subscribing I had some technical issues, but contacting the team they were able to resolve it relatively fast. I hope they can get this figured out so new user won't have the same issues

Last updated in 2017. The app lessons don't advance; each lesson only shows 1 word rather than all 5. Edit: the publisher responded by saying to tap the blue button rather than the individual characters. But I already had been tapping the blue button, since tapping the characters excludes them from the lesson.

Although fantastic for learning characters, some of the etymology could better, e.g. neng2 should be a picture of a bear, not a guy with a giant nose going to the moon to find two old spoons. The silly mnemonics are fine (even great) when the real etymology is obscure, but with a clearly picture-based character like neng2, it's just annoying .

Worst bug ever: app stops working after subscribing and paying. After the free trial, I paid for a subscription but the app still doesnt work. It says your trial has ended, and when your'e clicking the subscription option it says you already subscribed.

I'm so glad I've discovered this application! It helped me memorize my first characters and encouraged my decision to learn Chinese. Now after every lesson with my teacher I look up new characters through "search" instrument in the app so I can remember them faster. Also if you have any issues while using Zizzle don't hesitate to email Lukas, he's been very helpful. Probably it's my first review on Play Store but the app really deserves it. Keep going guys!

Idea is good, but it is too expensive for so simple approach. What I really dislike is the promoting of FREE app on their website/emails while you can't do anything after trial without paying. Limited free access would give me opportunity to evaluate it better.

It is a very nice app. It tells you a little illustrated story about each character, making it easy to remember the meaning and pronunciation. There was a bit of a problem with the subscription, but it eventually got resolved.

Super useful app,helps.to memorize characters easily. Some issues with the paid version,contact the support team if you encounter any problems,they are very proactively.

Had issues tying my subscription to my account but Zizzle was very helpful in fixing this. I enjoyed the trial and have been trying out words on my daughter who does speak Chinese and she has understood me so this must be working. : ) I find the way this is set up really helps me retain the words in my head. Really looking forward to more of this now that I have the subscription.

This is a really good app, and it has helped me with remembering a lot of charcters. However, I just wish it contained more characters. I've found often I search for characters in HSK3 or even HSK 2, but this app doesn't have them, which is a shame.

good apps! sometimes cannot search the word, but overall it is a great app. There is some error in subscription, but the team fix it fast

Apologies for the language used! Thank you for fixing it for me and everything you have done. I went for this app cause I liked it.. it suits my learning style I guess! Earlier I had subscribed to Drops but since this one is better...I want to learn Chinese using this app. Again, sorry and thank you for being kind!!

May I check why I can't hear the pronunciation of the words in the app? It stated your app is still using older Android versions. Anyway to update the version to enable the speaker to work?

Thank you for resloved the issue with subscription. The application is working well now. This application is very useful for learning Chinese characters. Would recommend this app to my friends.

Thank you for the prompt response. Apparently, I just have to log out my free trial id and re log in using my email. Much appreciate!! Because of this application, I learn Chinese language rapidly.

updates error and It would be great if your team can make this app accessible in all Chinese app stores as it cannot be logged in through fb or google or email even though the phones have Google play store installed in other ways to download it cannot be accessed as default app store. So make this available in mi store, Huawei store or othe some popular app store of China to access your app anywhere to login the app. I can use only free version because I can't Login or buy the product.

I strongly recommend not downloading this app. There is a bug that prevents paid subscribers from accessing your content and the developers have done nothing to fix it. I've already wasted money for nothing. Don't let them take your money.

Very good app however subscription is not working properly. It's telling me my trial ended although I have one year subscription.

I encountered some problem immediately after i subscribed but immediately i contacted zizzle, they solve it to me. The application is awesome, very good for one to get HSK 4 in two to three months. Thank you.

This is an amazing app but not very useful if I want to pick up traditional characters. Hoping there will be support soon!

Do not sign up. Will auto charged ur credit card after 1 month. And, make sure you remove ur card and click terminate to unsubscribe. I paid for nothing for 3 months..... And the characther is limited.
