I wanted to try this for awhile before I rated it, particular since I speak a few languages. As someone who is a linguist, I can say this program is very effective. It incorporates nearly all aspects of language learning, including interactive speech recognition... But there is not a focus on classical grammar structure as with traditional language programs. Instead, the focus is on everyday interaction and speech, where the smartphone platform is cleverly used to make a fun game of learning and challenges the user to achieve more points for a higher score.
Their French is incorrect. The app was great at first. Easy to use and I really like the AI. However, once I got into lesson 1-3 of the first premium section I saw the text was glitchy and completely wrong. She speaks way too fast for you to accurately hear what she's saying. I'm not fluent but I know enough French to know it was teaching me the wrong translation. I immediately cancelled my free trial and deleted it. Not worth it if they aren't teaching you the correct French phrases and words.
Well-structured app with daily lessons and many other lessons to work your way through if you have the paid version. It is easy to review words and phrases over and over quite quickly using the weekly and monthly lessons. The only problem is that after 18 months using it I have reached the stage where I have done all the lessons and now I am just revising. Though there is a lot there it would be good if I could keep going with more new stuff.
I've used different language apps before and this is the easiest one to learn with. I can go as fast or as slow as I want. I can repeat the recorded word or phrase over and over so I get the pronunciation correct before moving on. Some of these apps move way to fast which makes the content easier to forget and harder to pronounce correctly. This app is just my pace. Great app!
So far, I like it. But the rating request came after only a few minutes of using the app, so my opinion might still change. Update : The free trial lessons seem to be too basic to get a good impression. Update : Now I'm stuck in a loop with basic words, even though I selected advanced lessons. Microphone function control not fluid on my phone (button doesn't respond well). I like how it looks and works, but I would need more convincing before paying.
Good but a little buggy here and there. Doesn't always give accurate translations itself but then deducts a point when you don't answer with the exact answer it expects. Microphone button is temperamental. Translates your spoken answer into the wrong word even when it sounds the same as the right answer eg voudrais/voudrait. Support is non-existent - queries you send just disappear with no record of sending and you never get a reply. Overall quite good, though.
Its a really good app for beginners like myself because of the repetition, but for some reason the app keeps glitching and the audio stops working for me after a few minutes of using the app. And sadly when it does this you have to exit the lesson and restart, which is really annoying. If that bug gets fixed it would be really good.
It's an efficient and effective app, I have learned a lot in the few times I spent. However, the app need to teach more instead of giving out test(we came to learn the fundamentals first, we can't know if we aren't taught), also, it need to give out space for corrections more when the questions are failed in order to discuss and learn more about it. Lastly, more word options should be updated regularly into the app. Overall, a great useful App.
Although the app allows choosing between beginner/intermediate/advanced, even at the advanced level you start by practicing "mère", "père", and simple structures like "c'est". That's disappointing. Not clear if anything more profound is to be expected in the paid version. I know, the content is standard for all languages, but having an entire lesson built on words almost identical in English and French (tennis, football, etc.) at an intermediate level is no good. Otherwise the app is ok.
Too laggy. The app is promising, but it is clear from the very beginning that the user has to pay if he wants to progress after the most basic levels. Duolingo also asks for money, but not by blocking content. Also, the UI lags and when we tap two words quickly to write a sentence, the second tap isn't registered if the same is done during the animation.
Microphone doesn't work. Of course this happened in the middle of a lesson and there's no way to try to fix the mic with the app somewhere else in the settings. Only a few basic lessons are for free. You will not even get started on your French learning path before you have to shell out cash to this company, of which you are constantly bombarded with fullscreen ads trying to get your money. The sound effects are almost hurting. Overall a rather boring and antagonizing experience.
Was considering purchasing and was trying before committing. However, finding daily lesson notifications annoying, I disabled it in app yet everyday still received them. It's a shame because it seems to be a good app but I have no trust in it when I feel harassed to purchase.
easy to use! this app (for someone who took French in highschool for a few years) is a great refresher! for someone who has an "okay" knowledge I found it to be a great tool to pick up the language again. i am only a day in but i am hoping to see some more complicated learning as i progress since i started at the beginner level. i would highly recommend for someone who has no prior knowledge to try this app!
very good app, pretty easy, i like how you can go back and redo courses to recapture a course also you can repeat the voice and its not timed highly recommend this app. . only thing i would change is adding more of a variety of vocabulary. some words repeat on the following course once completed, but i get it, helps to remember....thank you lots Au revoir!
There are so many areas this app can be improved.The daily lessons are too short,users should be able to search for friends so they can be able to chat with other learners, lessons should stop being repeated after some months,there should be a reward for topping the monthly leaderboard (that way people would want to play more),not enough lessons in the chatbox. Other than all that,the app design is great.
I am a beginner and like Mondly app a lot and more than Duolingvo which I find more repetitive. The lessons are well tailored and each teaches useful words; repetitions are sufficient and with good variations. Great to have access to conjugations and be able to review or repeat each lesson. However, in 20 lessons it didn't recognize a single word I pronounced (though Duolingvo did quite a lot). And sometimes words are slightly truncated.
Hello, I'm experiencing very bad trying to study french with your kindly program. From time to time the voice disappear and I fail to complete my lesson. Do you have any solution for this problem? Thanks, Again, the major problem is still as it is: no sound. And in spite of many letters, but unfortunately nobody solve it. So, this program is useless. Hello, You promised many times to help, but you didn't. This app is still confusing me as the sound desapear suddenly any time.
After trying the free app I bought the life time account. So far it's brilliant...the best language app I have used. I love the chat bot ...actually having conversations so I can improve my pronunciation and learning different ways to respond or question. Most important to learn and build confidence in conversation. Too many apps just throw words out there to tap on or spell. Hopefully in a few months I will notice a great difference in my conversational skills.
The experience would be 4 stars if not for the excessive pressuring into buying premium. After every lesson I get an 'offer' that makes me not want to use the app anymore. Changed my rating from 4 stars to 2 after this. Hopefully this changes id like to continue using it but there are more options, bottom line, I like the app, but I'm really put off by the advertising pressure to buy premium.
The app is amazing, probably one of the best out there so I decided to pay the full plan for it. However, at some point the chatbot and other microphone features stopped working and the app restarts unexpectedly. I tried reporting the bug multiple times already and I get ZERO response or support, it's a pity and it's frustrating.
It's very good give you repetition for the sentence along with pictures to help you figure out what the words mean. The only thing that I can see that they can improve on is probably a word game. Overall still good. I tried to learn french in school but didnt stick. This is extremely helpful.
Best language app for the best price without question. Being able to pull up the past, present, and future conjugations for any verb is worth the premium subscription alone. Makes things super convenient for me, and I feel like I'm learning at a very quick rate :)
I've used a lot of different language apps in the past and this one is BY FAR the best! I love the little daily quizzes and I just found out that you can still take the weekly quiz if you miss a few days (you can re-take the missed days). Very useful! :-)
I'm a premium member since 2017. The app got accidentally uninstalled, although I reinstalled in a few days’ time. My subscription is on till October and yet the app is not letting me use the premium features. It keeps asking me pay, yet again. Edit : Rating them 5 stars as they promptly resolved the issue without much hassles. Kudos to their team. Good wishes!
The new update is disappointing, it's removed the ' from most words that's given by the app which makes your scoring less. Hope this gets fixed
It is very usefull app, much better than others! But there are also some disadvantages! Only 3 chapters have full lection list! When you press "load more" you can see many chapters, and all of them have only chapter 7 and 8. Where will you fill it with chapters 1-6?? This is very missing! What I love about app and makes you different from others is Chatbot. You should work on this and upgrade it!
