I mostly love this app BUT i do feel like the last exercises (where the letters are jumbled) need a different option for dyslexic learners. Sometimes it's nearly impossible and I just have to use trial and error because it's not a dyslexic friendly activity. If at all possible- there could just be an option to simply type the word directly versus trying to unscramble them. Just an idea for the future. But again- other than that I love it.

I like this App for learning French except for a few problems. The app doesn't allow me to use the " ' " necessary for some of the French words and creates an error, and I don't like starting with things I don't necessarily need like school or work items and skipping over more essential conversational needs like time, verbs, and the basics of the language. It feels a little like I'm starting in the middle?? Otherwise I love the combination of learning spoken, written and multiple choice.

Magnifique! The best money I've spent on anything! This tool is essential for any level. The comprehensive interface allows you to focus on learning and not app mechanics. Review lessons in a variety of ways to bolster retention, spelling, and pronunciation. Monthly subscriptions to fit any budget. With several languages to choose from, you have no excuse! I never thought I could learn a language at 38, but with babbel it's possible and it's Très Passionnant!!

The basics of the system work well to help learn French and get up to speed. there are multiple bugs that have to be addressed that deduct from the experience. missing audio and pictures. spoken audio is too fast. a review chart/table for common verbs/words/phrases would be useful. Basically, the system is better than the app. The app needs serious repair but it is worth using

It feels very cheap and poorly designed and expects a subscription for you to continue past the first lesson. Anywhere between $13 a month to $84 for a year of service. With those prices they need to get someone versed in app design to make it look professional and appealing to use. There also doesn't seem to be much content overall. I imagine I could do all 11 beginners courses in 2 hours or so. If the other difficulties are the same in content quantity then you'd need far less than a day.

I really love using thjs app and refreshing my basic french skills. the exercises are diverse and help a lit. Just an suggestion: the first part where you're supposed to speak (or at least hear) the new vocabulary - would it be possible to extend the time for the word and pronunciation to sink in by a few seconds. as it is, you see the word, hear it and then it disappears immediately. i always think its a pity that i cant look at it for a tiny bit longer to repeat for myself. awesome App!! Thanks

I have been learning French since 2 years, with a long pause in between. The app helped me not to forget what I have learned during the aforementioned break while still progressing a bit. Priceless in my opinion. Only thing I would try to improve is the review tab of the application. I believe having the option to review more words and sentences (just like you can do on the site) would help a lot every language learner.

Great app for learning French but an extra feature would be nice which would be to choose which classes' vocabulary you want in the review section (for example, it would be nice to remove the simpler lessons - such as colours or greetings). I also have issues with using the app offline - it takes a very long time to load offline and often seems not to register the review (sometimes it also doesn't register the class) so that when I'm back online, the same review/class comes up shortly after.

The app is pretty good. Had trouble with the voice recognition but I also have a southern accent. It quit working after about six months. I thought my subscription had ended so I did not have it trouble shot or fixed. Watch out for the automatic renewal. It will sneak up on you. I contacted their support team and reached an accord. There is satisfaction at the end of the rainbow.

Honestly, I have to get better with being consistent. Other than that I've learned a lot and can at least understand a little french. I can't stand when I am verbally saying the word and the app doesn't recognize it as correct eventhough it is; I also checked on another app how to say it. Eventhough I've learned a lot I can't pick up what a native french person is saying. The app needs to incorporate the speed once learned b/c it sounds different and no one will speak this slow for me.

I really enjoy learning with this app. It's a bit different from Duolingo and feels a little less repetitive. My biggest complaint is that the built in keyboard is terrible. Getting to accents and punctuation isn't fluid. It would be great if we had the ability to use our installed keyboards

The app really helps with learning French. It's simple to use, makes you repeat the work, which helps with memory and uses realistic real scenarios to teach you everything you need to give a good stable foundation. So far so good. It does however need to focus a bit more on actual "speaking" lessons.

This app is horrible if you actually want a language learning tool and not just a game. Once you realize how had it is, they don't give you any way to requires a refund. I feel like I got scammed. The voice recognition rarely works on any of my devices. The mobile and desktop version are never in sync. And the mobile app eventually just stopped working. I tried to submit a refund request to Babbel, but even that form just looped endlessly and wouldn't submit, and it's outside of Google Play's refund policies. Meh. Never again.

Honestly, I really do appreciate the content offered in Babbel. Especially for the low levels, say A1 and A2, the app is perfect. I actually prefer to start a new language via an app bc I won't be able to speak properly in these early stages anyway and would not really profit from a real life teacher. Instead, I can start off with Babbel in my own pace (which is normally a lot faster than the normal class speed) and then enter a language course in person once I can speak a little.

Superb way to exercise your lessons at a standard course - if you need to develop just reading skills that's all you need. If you need to train pronunciation then other methods are helpful. It is a keen tool, but not the ultimate solution to learning new languages. I use it to learn French based on English (Native speaker of Portuguese) and it's wonderful, I also used it to give my 10 year old brother his first lessons of Italian and it helped a lot (we are dual citizens of Italy born in Br)

Babbel takes a very academic take on speaking French. If you want to study long-term and conjugate verbs then maybe this is an app for you. However, if you want to brush up and just learn a little bit of transactional French for a trip to Paris, this is not a good app. The marketing does not make that difference clear. Additionally, subscribing to the app will will pur an auto-renewing subscription where you are not alerted to the charge until after it happens.

I've been using Babbel constantly for over a year now. This app is great to learn the grammar from scratch and especially for effactively learning vocabs. However, I think it's more useful to learn whole sentences instead of single words. I'd be happy if I could put the example sentences for the vocab (e.g. Animals) into my review stack. Thanks!

Mobile App not synchronizing with the desktop web app. Lessons I finish in the mobile app does not show in the desktop app as completed and vice versa. A little annoying. Also sometimes I want to hear the sentence again and on the mobile app it's not possible unlike the desktop webapp.

I'm an avid language learner with clear objectives and I have to say that this app has every single important element covered when it comes to language learning. I'm currently learning French. I have, by following a consistent routine of at least 20 to 30 minutes a day, achieved progress by using this app that I didn't believe were possible. I speak English as a second language. I know how hard it is to achieve some semblance of fluency in a L2. This app's great: the perfect tool.

Chi. C. Mar 25, 2019

very thorough and explains word usage in a way that is easy to understand and remember. I'll update this as I do more. I was reading another review further down that said that babbel is too expensive. Just look online for coupons. I found an amazing coupon that allowed me to get 3 months for around $14!

Engaging and supportive through the learning process. Let's you choose a focus like phrases most used while traveling as well as more conversational phrasing. The replay for correct pronunciation is great! So is the progress tracker!

Sam. M. Nov 9, 2019

It is good but the spoken sections sometimes just don't work. I even asked a native French speaker to try and the app thought they were saying entirely unrelated words. I tried to send a report in app and that function is broken as well. Will update if it's fixed.

Brilliant course, with dialogues and speaking practice which makes it easier and more fun to learn without becoming repetitive and tedious. I was wary to buy the subscription, but it is well worth it and have already renewed it again.

I love Babbel! I learned about it through my mom when she was learning Italian for a trip, so when I decided to learn French I signed up! I love the way the lessons practice identifying words/phrases, pronunciation, spelling, and listening. I'm still new to it, but it definitely feels more effective than learning a language in school ever felt.

Really good app for learning a language. The pace is good and the lessons are well thought out. I highly recommend this if you're serious about learning a language that they support. It's not free, so if you're looking for something to just come back to once in a while, go to Duolingo. If you really want to learn and dedicate time to acquiring a language, then try this out.
