So far this is the best language learning app I've come across. It promotes multimodal learning and provides options to practice vocabulary, grammar as well as everyday communication using useful phrases from the very beginning (unlike many other apps). The only possibly downside of the app is that it might be a little difficult for people who have zero knowledge about the Greek language (alphabet, structure, etc.), but having an option to look at the lesson notes, which also include verb conjugations, is a definite plus. I'd highly recommend this app to anyone wanting to practice at home or independently.
I think it's way better than Duolingo. The format is better, the little goals are better, better subjects that cover very important topics. each subject has a small group of vocabulary words that are repeated a few different ways and then also used in a few sentences to help build an understanding of their sentence structure. I'm only a week in, but very happy so far. At least in comparison to what I have tried before. I only gave 4 stars because It has only been one week.
The lessons are poorly structured. You will be presented with complex sentences without having been introduced to either the vocabulary or sentence structures. Elements that have been introduced are not reinforced. The recently added conversation lessons are ridiculously complicated compared to the lesson content provided leading up to them. I think we can safely say the people who put this together have no idea about language teaching and learning.
This app is good for listening to the spoken word, but does not have a constructive format for learning to speak the language ( Greek ). There are also many discrepancies as far as the actual translations are concerned. If you put your own work and effort in as well, then it is a helpful aid. Overall good value. I would have liked to have been able to experience the AR experience but my Samsung Android is not optimised to use it, so be aware.
I'm using this app to learn Greek. It builds you up to sentences by first teaching words (and repeating them so they stick), instead of throwing words and phrases at you like other apps. There is a voice over for every word and the voice sounds authentic and not robotic. I appreciate that you can tap on verbs to see how they are conjugated. I will definitely purchase a subscription once I complete the free version.
To be honest, it's is really more improve and better than duolingo. I've just started using the app and it really give good learning in easy way. But the tiny problem is it's not completely an offline app. To access some lessons it requires internet connection. But truly it's a great app. You can do a conversation learning, that's the part I like most, the (chatbot) Thanks.
It is a really good app for learning Greek alongside books and other materials. However, I would make a suggestion for the pictures associated with words to disappear in time (or at least to be an option to skip this) because I tend to focus on the pictures instead of the written word. I assume there are other people in my situation.
This app is far better than Duolingo. Better and clearer pronunciation, wider vocabulary and even displays past, present and future tense. Lessons are clear too. A bit strange that the alphabet isn't taught though. It also doesn't give you ridiculous sentences to say. I will say that you would need to know a little Greek to get off to a good start. Because it doesn't teach the alphabet, absolute first timers might get confused. This is something Mondly need to look at.
£9.99 a month! Are you kidding? I wonder why you don't feature that at all on your advert! The free version lasts a week, so even your response is misleading, you can't exactly participate in weekly quizzes without paying can you? A bit expensive I would suggest, and I think you know it, otherwise you would be up front about costs and what exactly is free.
This app is SOOO helpful!! I've been trying to learn Greek for so long now and I've finally found a way to do so. The app is easy to use, helpful to memorise and pronounce words easily, and doesn't require you to spend money on it to progress like Duolingo and other apps. Can't recommend this enough for all language learners!!! 💖💖
Great app- has come a long way since I last used it (a few years ago). Only disappointment is not being able to slow the words down to enable me to take in the pronunciation. Would love to see this added. Overall 👍🏼
Meh. It's good for practice if you already know some Greek, but not so good for learning new material. It keeps throwing new vocab into the daily lessons without teaching it first, so you just have to guess. And unless you pay the exorbitant monthly fee, you can't even repeat a lesson.
Not for beginners! No alphabet and starts right into a conversation with no vocabulary nor pronunciation explanations. Reviews even back to 2018 complain about this. Guess the company doesn't care. Also reviews say that many of the phrases taught are clumsy and unrealistic and I can see they still have not been updated. Uninstalling.
Awesome app. I have a degree in applied linguistics and speak one foreign language fluently (German). I'm learning Spanish and Greek on the app now. It's really good. I love the way it gives you a visual word cloud of words and sentences you just learned. Very good.
3.5 its pretty good. I wish there was auto lessions for when driving. The learing method might not be challenging enough im not sure if the retention to time spent ratio is as efficient as it should be. But for the greek language there're not too many options. Eitherway im stll paying and still learning
There seems to be a sound volume problem on Pixel 5, all other apps are loud enough (e.g. YouTube) even on 10-20%, but for Mondly I have to turn up the volume to 50% so that I can hear the sound properly. Other than that, the app is really good, I am a subscriber and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to learn Greek.
Intuitive, friendly app with great visual and auditory aids. But I very quickly ran out of the free stuff which was a little annoying. There should also be more exercises to check own progress.
I like the app and I especially like how the verb links to its conjugation in the simple past, present and future. I did have one issue with the translations. Goodbye is pronounced as andio in the app, whereas, unless this pronunciation is regional, it should be pronounced adio. With pronunciation, as soon as one issue is found it brings doubt to all pronunciations.
I took three years of koine Greek, and because of that I had a little help when starting this app because I was at least familar with the symbols and sounds. This is teaching modern Greek, which I want to learn. But this is just guess work. You don't even learn the alphabet. You start out matching words and pictures. If you just repeat the lessons you can memorize the answers without learning anything. If you reading this, and want to learn Greek, try a different program.
A well done app. Bit it only offers what is typical in such apps : mainly dragging word boxes from some limited set. This does not require much understanding or effort in exercises. Thus such apps only give a false impression of having learnt or having achieved some knowledge.
I was trying to learn Greek with duolingo (which had helped me a lot to learn Spanish in the past) but I was very frustrated that all the teaching is in the greek alphabet and don't give you a chance to learn with the English alphabet first. It was overwhelming for me and gave up trying to learn. Then I found this app and the paid version teaches you in the English alphabet and it's so much easier for my brain! It's more important for me to learn how to speak it than to write it (for now). Yay!
Easy to use and a combination of visual images and text. The examples are easy to understand and reasonably practical. I haven't been using it for long though, so I will reserve further judgement.
I love this app. it by far surpasses any other app out there. I started learning greek and it has been so easy to learn because there are many different tutorials to help your brain learn how to correctly communicate the sentences you are learning!
Terrible app. The first lesson covered only pets, not very useful when travelling to Greece. The format was ok, similar to Rosetta Stone, having to match the word with a picture. But then it gave me a phrase to translate with words that had never been covered.
Includes many mistakes when it comes to spelling and conjugation. Place to improve and check in a grammar way. Apart from that, this course is very helpful and student friendly.
Overall the app is OK but it's so difficult to repeat when using the chatbot as there is no option to slow down pronounced works it's far to quick, this is very frustrating no matter how many time you click to hear it again, till the slow down of the words are not available I will not purchase as this is a massive let down and the developers should look into this.
