Learn Japanese ELer - Channels, Podcasts, Lessons

It was a good app when it worked. Since I updated it, it no long works, just keeps crashing. very sad. Updating this to be 1 star. Would rate it 5, but mo longer works and the developer is no help. "Upgrading" my system is not an option, not everybody can afford a new device every year. It worked perfectly fine pre-update. I wish i never updated it. At the very lest give us an option to go back!

I really enjoy this app. If you are currently working on learning more kanji and/or your Japanese listening skills, this is a useful app to have. You can read or listen to just keep yourself practicing those skills. For some words, it will provide a definition option in Japanese. These are written in a really accessible way. My one issue with the app is the translator attached to it. I find it to be a bit cumbersome.

Really nice app, but full volume video ads on app start is a big no-no for me. I use it for practicing reading news, but one in 5 times it makes me jump out of my seat. Especially when it is not an appropriate place for annoying ads to start playing (like in quiet public places). Concider no sound apps for startup.

The lessons from storyline are helpful. However, there are some huge potentials from other features that need to be developed. For example, providing text and translation for podcast. As for now it remains not very useful.

I would give this app 5 stars since it is great and useful. But it keeps showing ads even when it is in background which is *very* annoying. (Edit: I don't have anything against you putting ads, but they should not pop up while I am not using this app. I think this should be fixed.)

the image translation was really helpful, other than that i didn't use it that much. i understand the dev needs to put charges for lesson materials, voice speech etc but i don't think putting limitation to the translation feature is necessary. it's something to consider so people would rather use this app than going back to their google translator, but otherwise 4/5.

Just downloaded this app. I'm really surprised and thankful that there are furigana added to all the kanji for all the news articles written in Japanese, which is really great for Japanese learner. Great app! Almost forgot to mention, there is also a speaker added to read out the entire news for u. XD which is really good too.

So far i am LOVING this app...it's got all the features i could ask for. I feel like i'm discovering new features every day lol. Relevant daily news of various sectors, interesting podcasts, a vocab list section i can add a japanese word to and it auto-finds the definition, japanese lessons?! And i can enjoy it for free (ofc premium gives u more abilities i guess?). But dude...thanks for a great app!!

I really like this app! I have been learning japanese for a while and this is what I needed for practice. The only problem I see is that in the lessons part a black menu opens and hides half of the screen, and I can't close it, so I cannot actually see anything there.

Hi, it's the best app for reading the Japanese news! However, it would be great if the furigana toggle button could work more consistently for the normal (latest) news as well. Some times it indicates no server unavailable. Thank you!

News is divided into 2 sections: easy and normal speed which is really helpful for beginners like me to catch up with the pace. Transcripts are also available with furigana for kanji, making it easier for reading and looking up new words. Thank you for your hard work by keeping news up-to-date.

the app is amazing, it's cool how you can save articles. I've been having a problem with the app recently, everytime I click on a downloaded article, the app closes. Can this glitch please be fixed.

Somehow the audio lesson kept running in the background without a way to turn it off, even if the app was closed and wifi turned off it kept running until I restarted the phone. That was alarming.

Really love this app it help me a lot with studying Japanese . But it be nice to have mark as already read feature on the news channel because I use this app mostly to practice writing in Japanese by copying the news but sometimes I got confused and write the same news twice . Other than that everything is great .

Edited: wow the developer responded fast! Downloaded the new version and it's working fine. I've been using it for a while. but recently it crashes whenecer I dismiss the ads when entering the app.

Easy but informative lessons. Or so I hoped. The most recent update added new lessons but removed the old ones? (Like in the screenshot. Lesson 1: Hi, I am Anna) I can't find these anymore. The new lessons are all in Japanese. Are the old lessons still there? The navigation in the lesson menu is a bit confusing.

Deceptive. Markets itself as a free app, but you have to pay for essential functions like translation, text to speech (for pronunciation), furigana, download for offline, etc. Additionally, it does not tell you it starts you out with some free "coin," and since these functions do not warn you that they use "coin" and there is no prominent coin balance anywhere, you have no idea that you're spending then until they are gone and it prompts you to buy more.

It's a really great app. But the download function has stopped working. It worked fine at first, but now i get this "Network unavailable" message. I've checked my network and it appears to be okay. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Great app. I read a few articles every night and I am reading much faster. As advertised, these stories are much easier than reading standard Japanese news articles.

even in your play store screenshot (4/8) i can see this app is not black text on white background. don't tell me to upgrade my phone. i think you don't have black text. it's dark grey. it's too hard to read.

Great app. Very useful to learn japanese language. But I can't able to sign up. It says "NETWORK UNCONNECTED". Further the onamatopoeia sounds don't play. And the lessons can't be downloaded

I really like this app. It helps with acquiring new vocabulary and testing how much you are able to understand. Great for self study.

I updated to the latest version and the app doesn't associate with my dictionary app anymore (It used to open my dictionary app automatically after I select a word and press Copy). Is there any setting I should make?

I used to check news every day, but since the last update.i can't find the easy news broadcast section !! The advanced news is the default now!!!

This is a good app where you can practice reading in Japanese language by reading their national newspaper releases online. It has a great interface for the users and it has an assisting system where you can read an unknown kanji and expanding your knowledge about Japanese language

You could a lot of information to practice and improve, not only your listening skills, but also your reading!

Wow what is this blessed creation. Is there anything it CAN'T DO??? It is just an all around useful tool for those wanting to learn japanese. It is not the best for people immediately starting out, but it is really a necessary tool I believe. Woah dude I just really like this app maybe I am overreacting but heck.

Translation not working for easy news..not directly and nor even when I copy it... says failed to list supported languages and when I go to translate and copy, it just says preparing and gets stuck there

Easy to read Japanese news. Helps in learning Japanese. Has copy and translate functions. Up to date news.

great app but why does the menu keeps showing up and I can't close it when I go to "lessons" ? (after choosing one there's a black panel on the left and I can't close it)
