Very good app to learn basic Japanese, very interactive, anx the drawings are a very nice complement to the flashcard based games and test. very happy about it I think an improvement that could be made, is to be able to activate a more kanji-based way of learning, because some words are written in hiragana when they're usually in kanji, like 病気 びょうき sick, illness I personally know Chinese and so the kanjis are not very hard to learn, so it'd be great to have that setting somewhere

This has been super helpful in getting the basics of Japanese down, especially in regards to grammatical structure. I've been using it for about a month and taking notes as I go along. I went ahead and got the subscription so I wouldn't have to deal with ads and learn at my own pace, and I've already earned enough coins for when this one runs out. A great tool for beginners, hope more content gets added soon!

This is a HUGE help to me learning Japanese, especially with the level units. It's great more both beginners and mid level learners. I also love how you can go back and view lessons as to the fact you can skin past the Hiragana (I chose not to) straight to the Katakana. You can also view the alphabet and how the pronunciation changes. It would be even more fun if you could play with friends, you may be able to I don't know because I'm yet to try. This app is awesome, keep up the work ❗💪

It's pretty simple, but that's also what is nice about it. Just nice practice every now and then. I really like the pronunciation on here compared to the other apps I've tried. I just wish it had a big test option, like for all hirigana as an example. And if that does get added it'd be nice if it told you which exercises to redo as practice. And of course maybe a big test option where you go through everything on the app. ❣️♥️

5 stars but would probably rate it a 4 . There is a bug on my phone. When pulling the hiragana keyboard it only gives the option of ~12 symbols and the option to add a dakuten. Sometimes the answer isn't available. For example "he" isn't in the list given and the answer should be ge. I have no choice but to get the question wrong. As far as being a solo teaching tool I don't think there's much substance especially on the hiragana lessons. No phonetic equivalents given. Great review tool tho.

Having N3, I'm dissatisfied with my experience. In the first place, calling the -masu form "present tense" is incorrect AND misleading. The typing is clunky, and since it only uses the westernised type of transcription, it caused me to make errors as I'm used to typing tu, ti and si rather than tsu, chi and shi. It's also unclear why you can't use your phone's keyboard, especially since the input of gboard is much more responsive than the ingame keyboard. It's good you can skip levels though.

Excellent app. Probably one of the best ways to quickly learn hiragana and katakana. It is simple to use and it basically follows the genki book so its really good starting point. My only minor annoyance with the app is that sometimes in the drawing practice when it asks you to draw a Hiragana or katakana it already shows the correct sign instead of the romanji. I've gone around that by covering the hiragana slot with my finger in the drawing practice and going only by the flashcard.

Not only are the lessons and art pretty high quality, but there's a way to earn a subscription in-app without spending money! You can buy a premium subscription using currency you can earn purely from playing in-app mini games. I really appreciate that little touch and it goes a long way to making me want to use the app more.

Really good for learning Japanese. It teaches in ways that help you understand the concepts through audio, symbols, and pictures, which is really good for memorization. The games in the arcade are a bit lackluster in my books though. They're not bad, but some of the animations are too long, which can make the games tedious. But the overall learning experience is great.

Very cute and interesting Japanese learning game! In fact, it's one I'd buy in a heartbeat if it had a reasonable pricing scheme, but I'd much rather pay a 1-time fee of even $20-$30 to unlock a game permanently (or micropayments to unlocks parts of it) than a subscription, even if it's just $1 per month. I really dislike subscription pricing plans. That said, playing for free isn't too bad. There aren't a lot of ads. I just wish I could monetarily support the app in a way I'm comfortable with.

The game crashes a lot on my tablet, but works just fine on my phone. I think the reason it crashes on my tablet is because the screen resolution is so much bigger and this is a very good-looking game, so I think the game just takes much more memory to run on it than my much smaller phone, with not enough increased memory to compensate for it. Anyway, it's a fantastic game that's great for learning Japanese. I would recommend using multiple apps that teach Japanese, however, not just this one.

It's a great app and I'm enjoying learning, but I often get the drawings wrong so I try to practice them, but then I run out of lives because I'm not good a drawings... I understand you have to complete a previous lesson for more lives but it's very time consuming. If there was a way to practise without the pressure of lives it would be great. Other than that, awesom app, definitely recommend it.

I've only just started using the app, but so far it seems very useful for anyone who wants to learn Japanese are an absolute beginner. The best part it is completely free with the option to subscribe (very cheap) if you want to support the developer and unlock a few features such as removing adverts (with some exceptions) The adds aren't that bad or too intrusive. You should definitely give the app a try.

Astoundingly good! A lot of apps, books, etc say that they will teach you step by step explaining everything as you go along. However most of them skip over vital information. This app, whilst it doesn't explain everything it teaches primarily through context, this is so much more efficient! Letting the students infer techniques and methods of creating sentences, rather than the student of getting lost along the way. 2 criticisms though: let us make our own sentences. And more lessons!!!

The app is still good, but used to be a LOT better. I have two problems with the new one: I paid for ALL the contents in the old app and was able to learn without ads or further payments. Now my payment has been deleted. I got a short test subscription as compensation but honestly I still feel ripped off. The new system is the same one that Duolingo uses and has the same problem: Old things don't get thrown in randomly. Now when you are at the highest level you don't get rewarded for repeating.

It's not bad but I don't like the fact I can't review or I'm sure I can somehow but I can't seem to find it compared to other apps you have a quick review button right next to where the lessons are listed. like to lingo right on the main page has a review button everything you learned. Just not big on the back you have to navigate through different menus which I guess a try to send it up like a real life and nothing but as far as trying to learn the language it just seems to get in the way.

Pretty good way of repetition. The app is typically broken up into learn and review in series of 3 for your first time in a lesson. Then after that it goes into mixed reviews. The multiple methods of learning options (spoken, written, match, etc) can make it a little less repetitive. It's always great to nail a section with no mistakes. I've been using it in conjunction with my course work just to keep me fresh on what hiragana is what.

I'll be honest, I didn't expect much from something with "kawaii" and "free" in its title, but this app does a shockingly good job at teaching. Although I have only gotten to the end of hiragana so far, so I will the experience so far. 5/5 to keep it short, it gives visuals, repeats cards later if you get them wrong, makes you take a small break if you mess up too much and even gives you audio, it uses all methods of memorising and I love it.

It's a fantastic way to learn basic Japanese, I cant say anything about the more complex kanji as of yet but it gives good examples and has a very clear tone when describing words and sounds, plus the minigames in the arcade are challenging and fun! Although I'm a bit disappointed everything went free after I spent some money to get the extra packs, but that's good for anyone who would actually be looking at these comments, all the lessons are free now!

This app is truly amazing if you want to learn Japanese. It's easy to understand and free. It also makes it fun to learn. I would give it 5 stars, but the problem is, ever since registering, after finishing a lesson and such... It just crashes, thankfully though, after restarting the app, I don't lose any data and I just repeat the process of learning and restarting...

Great. I found it a bit too slow to get anywhere. The game itself runs great and looks cool. But the story elements slow down the process abit too much for me. Adding a story into the learning certainly makes it more fun but it then took longer to learn. But for those who like these type games it's a great way to learn and play. Ok. Developer responded to say one can skip the story elements so that could speed things up alot! Thanks 👌

I played a while back maybe 2 years ago and there wasn't much polish to the game, it was raw and it was hard to get things done. I know I was exceptionally impressed with the customer support at the time and I hope it has stayed mostly the same since then. I've recently re-downloaded it and may I say I'm extremely impressed the graphics, are nice the interaction and teaching methods are standard, and it has a story that keeps you engaged wanting more. One thing that needs work is the dialog.

Jus. B. Mar 21, 2019

I'll probably sound like a bot, but this is the best learning program I've ever found. I'm at a very beginner level currently so I can't rate the advanced features but the beginning features are great. There is in app purchases but it's only like $5 and I feel that is more than generous for what you get. You basically get to try out the entire game before you have to decide whether you're going to pay or not.

I'm really getting on well with this app. I've wanted to learn Japanese for years but it has always seemed overwhelming and scary. This has helped me get started and stay engaged. The only improvement I could ask is that there be a section, (maybe in the kana dictionary) that shows you how to write each character correctly. I like to come out the app and practising writing in my notebook but find it hard to access specific characters without going through an entire lesson.

Mor. L. May 30, 2020

This app makes learning fun and interesting! So far I have no negatives about this except for the memory game. If you have it on hard difficulty, you only get to see each card once, if you're lucky. The timer is fine, but when the animation to turn the cards is so long, it uses up more of your time than actually playing the memory game.....

Cha. C. Jun 21, 2021

This app is really great for helping understand and learn grammar. It does have it's flaws though, the "individual lesson" has never changed. I've done the same individual lesson about 10x now. The story with Riko has ceased to exist which isn't a big deal, but I keep hoping the story will start back up. If you want help understanding grammar the lessons are great at that, but not much else. The games are awful. They do not help the learning process at all. Don't bother with those.

It's really nice but testing out takes forever! I've already taken some japanese classes so I need to skip a lot of lessons but with 50+ questions each it takes way too long! The questions are kinda repetative and the amount could probably be cut in at least half. I also wish we could have volume settings. But other than that it's a nice way to learn.

Honestly a great app that teaches you, and makes it fun, but there are some minor bugs. Mostly on the graphical side, and can easily be fixed just by exiting, and re entering the app, but still those should probably not happen. Got a screenshot of one bug that jarbled up the map. Still easily fixable like I said though. For the most part though, the app teaches you well in all aspects by giving visuals, audio, and shows you how to draw hiragana, katakana, and has romanji side by side.
