So far this is the best app for learning Japanese that I have been able to find. Learning has never been more easy and it's worth paying money for. The lessons are short, simple and easy to understand. The constant lesson refreshers keep the mind sharp and the lessons really do stick. I'd say $3.00 is a good price for learning, cheaper than any class you could take.
Beware android users. First of all, this isn't free, it's a free sample. Only after you pay to unlock all lessons will you be able to determine that there is no sound after level 2. There's a play button but it doesn't do anything. And many of the cool features that made your iPhone friends suggest the app do not exist for us (such as learning to write the characters). I contacted the developer a week ago asking for a refund and they haven't replied. Too bad, because the UI is great. Oh well.
This is great if you already have just a little basic knowledge of Japanese. I use it when on the train or waiting around. It slowly builds your vocabulary and understanding without overwhelming you and focuses on very practical settings. Also great for reviewing. For me, it was definitely worth purchasing.
This is the best app for learning Japanese, hands down. I've tried a bunch over the past three years, and I regularly use the paid versions of Duolingo and Memrise as well, but this is the best one for learning the two alphabets, some kanji, grammar, basic phrases, vocabulary, and comprehension. I just switched to using Android and it was worth paying for this app again. Without this app, I never would have been able to walk into a Kyoto bar and profess my love for cats in intelligible Japanese.
The app is good(after you pay for it), but when are you guys going to add the writing feature that is available to IOS but not on Android. The writing feature, in my opinion, drastically helps me learn and memorize the characters a lot easier than just having matching cards. Once you guys add that writing feature, I think this app would be 5 star worthy.
fast and convenient. helping me in conjinction with duolingo and others. this app is Great. paid like 3 bucks for the full app and its worth it. suprised with how easy and fast it is. some programs feel like a chore to use when i just want to pull it out and learn for a few minutes while waiting in a queue. thanks yall!
Edit: Last night I had a problem where I purchased everything inside the app on one of my devices and then I couldn't access the paid content on a secondary device, however that issue seems to be resolved after I opened the app this morning, so I guess you just have to wait and give it time to sync. So far the app is great, and I love the fact that I'll be able to learn the correct grammar of sentences in Japanese and more. Thank you for this app, the purchase is well worth it in my opinion ๐
Loved the app, and still love the concept and layout, but once I got to kanji the app just continually crashes and gets worse and worse until I basically can't get back into it. It's whenever I try to review the lessons. I tried emailing the developers and I never got a response. This was for the paid version btw. Such a shame. Apparently the iPhone version is better.
This is a great app. It goes beyond character recognition and introduces the user to vocabulary and grammar in a very fun and effective way. I am very grateful to find this app! Unfortunately, the app crashes when tapping the green OK button at the second step of the final katakana lesson, but I have reported it immediately.
Fantastic app for learning the foundation of Japanese. I bought the full version. This review would be 5 stars if the Android application supported the settings that it does on IOS/iPhone. I am disappointed that I cannot change the font, writing, review frequency, etc. I will change this review to 5 stars if the settings are added to Android.
This is a pretty good language learning app, only problem is that there isn't any tools to assist you on remembering or making lessons easier. The review takes all the symbols and just throws them together and doesn't categorize them.
I paid for the full version and do not regret it one bit. There seems to be glitches here and there though. Whenever I try reviewing past due or all lessons, the app randomly resets to the home page. Please help fix the issue. Thank you.
Like the app and the increasingly difficult lessons. So much so that I actually purchased all the lessons. Would give it 5 if only the app was better formatted during the sentence part of the lesson. The words get cut off so I am having to guess the word based off 3 only characters when entering a sentence
Great app for learning Japanese so far as I've gotten. Pay wall once you get to a certain point but its only $3 for full access compared to some other apps which can go for a monthly fee upwards of $10. Well worth the price as far as I know.
Honestly I'm just sad there's no sound past the basic vowels. But I'm actually learning which is so much more than I expected. I just write on paper to practice the characters, it's not that hard. Having the verbal feedback was important so I hope I can retain information for the rest of the app. Also $2 is not expensive chill
It's a pretty cool app just to learn kanji and the other characters you can even set it up the writing feature which is nice because you learn by doing it's awesome. You do have to pay to unlock after the first 3 sets I believe but it's not much and worth the 3-4 bucks you pay
Simply fantastic to learn the basics of Japanese (and not just some phrases!!!). Paying the 2 bucks to unlock everything is well worth it in my opinion. I actually bought it twice. Once on my iPhone and once on my new android phone. Didn't even hesitate to repurchase ๐โ๏ธ
This app is good, except for crashing when completing reviews. As an addition, I would love a less multiple choice option for writing and speaking practice. This app focuses on reading only, but I find it helpful for practicing vocab, especially Kanji
I liked the app so far (full version) but the audio up from level 3 is bugged and doesn't play anymore, this makes learning very hard. Looking at reviews, the problem seems to be there since March/April. Please fix it because I can't recommend the paid app in this state.
Really good approach in forcing your brain to associate the kana and the characters, but the sound doesn't work. I would love to have it for aid when putting sentences together. Sometimes I know a character, but I forget how to speak it. Please fix.
To start with the app only gives a small taste of the content available and then you have to get premium. However, I spent a year in Japan and am already moderate at Japanese and am using the app to keep the skill, and it was clear to me that this was a quality app. The $5.00 fee really is worth it. Happy studying!
I really like this app for learning vocabulary, the grammar exercises are good as well. The only thing I find difficult is the kanji. I wish they had furigana to be able to read them. At least in the grammar exercises.
Great app. Would be nice to have a review section option vs just review lesson or review all. Ex: "review katakana" as an option. A few word wrap issues in the vocab where phrases are cut off (ใขใกใชใซ for example) Otherwise, very well put together.
Great app, well worth the purchase! I decided to learn Japanese about a month ago, and after two weeks of frustration with ineffective or classroom oriented books, I found this app. It's well tailored for solo learning, intuitively teaching grammar and vocab. The only thing that could be improved is the review tool. There are two cumulative reviews, but no way to select or exclude a group of chapters , or even just review vocab/kanji, requiring another method or tool to supplement.
