I've only used the paid version and I can say that it is an amazing and fun app for language learners. I also love the new augmented reality feature. In my opinion persons will only need to spend extra using the content with native speakers but most of the content is useful and practical. As the app has many types of activites the only downside could be too many features as there is a lot to do and you really need to know which learning options best suit your needs.
The description is a bit misleading because you can only learn 33 languages for free for 7 days, then after it becomes a monthly subscription. However, my biggest problem with it is that it is only for beginners. Even after declaring an intermediate or advanced level my first lesson consisted of learning the French words for "mother" and "meat". If you are a beginner and don't mind the subscription, it's a nice app with a good concept and may work for you.
I chose to learn Spanish using French as my medium - it makes it easier to become more fluent in both languages. Lessons are short and give swift results- if I miss a few days or weeks I can go back to catch up. It's a great app, reading, writing, speaking listening -and thinking! I've been revising my Spanish GCE 'O' level (from 50 years ago!) for a year now - effortlessly!
Update to my past, most recent review: The problems with the voice recognition have finally been fixed. There is a small lag time now for the app to respond to voice, but the software does what it says it can do. Happy to continue my learning experience with Mondly. The team were obviously working to resolve the problem. Thanks Mondly.
It's really good. It's definitely easy to learn with this application. Only thing is when you're repeating words in fluent Russian it says you're incorrect, lol! I think it teaches you to pronounce words as they look first, then onto fluency later. Maybe it's just me. I do really like it. So many languages to choose from also!
I paid for a "lifetime membership" years ago. It was advertised that I'd have unlimited access if I purchased within a certain amount of time, but now my account is gone because they've revamped the app and made it so that you need to pay for a monthly or annual subscription. They essentially stole my money. Scammers. 👍
Using it in French to learn Croatian, I'ma beginner. It's pretty good so far, the pop up in French to ask to rate the app contains a grammatical mistake, though. I've also tried using the app to learn Korean from French, only I'm already advanced in Korean and the app despite offering the button "advanced" still offers only basic lessons so it's of no use to me.
I have been using this app for a few months now. I like the way phrases learnt are repeated throughout the levels and lessons. You tend to pick up and remember easier after each lesson is completed. The various choices of vocabulary lessons are very useful. Great value for money and a useful tool to enhance your language learning skills.
The app is good but needs a lot of improvements. I used Duo for French and it has a more friendly approach. The teaching in Duo is perhaps slower but gives you a better chance to assimilate the new language especially concerning the foreigner (alien) spelling.
This app is not very useful. I did the first lesson in Tagalog and when I tried what I had learned on a native speaker, they said it was all backwards. The translations I learned apparently were out of date stilted formal phrases that no one uses in everyday conversation. It would be like learning English by watching a movie from the 1950's. Got laughed at using basic level phrases.
I don't think an app should ask for a review just after a few minutes of use, especially not a learning app that you can only really judge after hours or days. I purchased the lifetime subscription right away as it's an absolute bargain if the app isn't half-bad. However, the app doesn't even understand that the Italian word ciao means hello as well as bye. That's so basic, every tourist knows this. So I'm sceptical whether this is going to be better than Babbel.
I would like the app much more, if the darn thing would actually work properly. They took my money immediately, but do not give me any options to contact someone about a clitch in the system that prevents me from actually using it properly. Very disappointing, to say the least.
So far this is the only Language app for Latvian. It's a bit buggy, freezes up on accomplishments screen, and doesn't have audio for expanded words list. But I have only been using it for 10 mins so it might be better as I go on.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Z3 formatting is off. I'm enjoying the app and the lesson exercises, however the formatting when open on the big screen, the "check" button covers some of the selection buttons, as well as not being able to scroll down to select them. I have submitted and reported a problem. Enjoying all the different languages :)
Good but as always limited unless you pay. And too easy doesn't make a differation in level and becomes quickly boring if you're not a begginer , won't be upgrading unless this changes.
I like a lot the app and would like to see 1) advanced level really advanced (it's as almost difficult as the other levels); 2) specific grammar exercises (not only in situational contexts); 3) an option to practice without audio exercises (for use in situations I have to be silent or in public spaces). Thanks!
Great app BUT no Offline Mode. This could easily be one of the best apps, but they lack offline mode. I sometimes find myself in areas in where the signal is either weak or I have none and the app requires constant internet connection. Please enable offline mode for your paid users! I'll change my review once this has been enabled. Thanks!
I have been using the Spanish app for a year and a half. Learning process is good at a fair price for add free content. Not without errors when it comes to spelling and grammar both in native and language being learned. Voice recognition is hit or miss compared to other Spanish apps that I have been evaluating.
Nice app but super bad UI choices, constantly wants to me to buy more annual subscriptions over my exisiting annual subscription, doesn't really teach you new words either just throws you into the deep-end
Very addicting! I like how polished the app is and how the daily tests keep you coming back. I wish there was a multiplayer chat feature to talk to others to try out what I learned! Also, the app has Croatian but not Serbian. I'd like to learn both. Hvala ti, Mondly!
Very easy to use; can use the microphone feature to check pronunciation; like the variety of activities; wish there was a way to change the gender
I am really enjoying this. I particularly like the amount of customisation you can make. As well as the pronunciation testing in a conversation, being able to hear what someone will say if they don't understand you is great.
Too many ads for premium service. Also, if I hadn't already been doing Duolingo, I would be totally lost. Actually, with the last lesson, different tenses were thrown in, and as usual, there was no explanation. Only using this app to semi_- reinforce what I have learned from Duolingo.
This is a time wasting. The advanced level is just a beginners level. The most boring way of unlearning languages. On the top of it there is no way to cancel it. I wrote them already 3 times that I want to cancel. They charging me first month instead in spite of that is written on my profile that is a free trial. Do not sign up for. Is boring the way they try to teach and they don't make it memorable the words.Oh and is written "manage subscription" where you cannot manage anything.
