Do you have difficulty with the sounds and pronunciation of the English language, or with understanding the symbols of the phonemic alphabet? With LearnEnglish Sounds Right on your phone or tablet you can practise anywhere and anytime. Just tap a sound and you will hear it. Tap the downward arrow sign and listen to three example words with that sound.

Do you use phonemic script in class to help your students with their pronunciation? With LearnEnglish Sounds Right installed on your class set of devices, or your students’ own devices, you can teach the individual sounds and symbols easily.
* The pure vowels are arranged the same way as in the IPA chart: according to mouth shape (left to right, lips wide / round – top to bottom, jaw closed / open).
* The diphthongs are grouped in rows according to their second sound.
* The consonants are arranged from left (front of mouth) to right (back of mouth). The top two rows of consonants are paired (top row – unvoiced, second row – voiced). When you tap a plosive consonant, the schwa (ə) appears. This is because the plosives were recorded with a schwa for clarity.

This app is awesome and very useful for me. However, three months ago until now it is crashing and doesn't work in my mobile. It's sad because, in my opinion, it is one of the most complete app that help us to solve sound's doubts. I just left two stars to catch your attention in order to resolve this little problem. This app is very useful and helpful, but it could be better if they show us the lips 💋 while pronouncing every single sound 🔊, that's why I rate you with only three stars. good job, congrats in advance👏👏 we hope you are going to figure this out soon.
Everything is fine: idea, functionality. EXCEPT sound, it isn't so clear as it should be. Is it possible to replace or provude option to select? By the way on BBC chanel there's a good series with pronoincing phonetic chart.
Is it me or is it missing some VERY important & tricky phonemes for lang learners - like the 2 "th" sounds or the "-ng" (as in sing)?! They're on the Desktop version. Can you include them, so I can recommend this App to learners - because for the rest, it's great!
Great app. But I think version 2.0.5 is better. In version 2.0.5 there is a clear difference between the sounds of I and e. In this one, they sound exactly the same. It would be great if you make version 2.0.5 available again. Thanks.
I think that the British council should add more things like triphthongs and syllables to it and things to test you on it, like just to extremely go forward in the app to make it more educational. It should also be able to teach you how to pronounce the sounds
It's quite helpful for self learning.If manner and place of articulation are visible or live then it would be perfect for non native speakers.
Love this app!! Recently I have to learn the pronunciation and phonetic symbols for my class. It's really useful for me to improve my pronunciation. I think it could be better if you can add on the triphthongs. Thank you so much.
I am frankly quite shocked that they are at least missing the "oo" sound as in food or moon... I'm not sure if they're missing any other vital sound but if they're missing that one then I wouldn't be surprised... 😅 Other than that it's nicely put together...
A superb app. One request... plz add YouTube video link to each sound. You have some good YouTube videos. If link to these video is attached to each sound, learners will be greatly benefited.
Hi I found this app very useful for my students who would like to improve their pronunciation. However, the pronunciation of "p" is voiceless but the app makes it sound like voiced "b" while "b" is supposed to be voiced but it sounds like "p".
At last I found it. The perfect one. If u want to learn phonetic symbols of words, must download it. very very very helpful and the best thing ever😍😍😍😍
Straightforward and simple. Thanks a lot to British Council for this facility in accessing proper English sounds, of which there is much of a need in the world.
simple but the best for learn basic pronunciation., i just hope you can give us some videos too, and tips for some sound that non-native difficult to differentiate ..
I have downloaded the app in my Samsung mobile, unfortunately it is not opening. I have uninstalled and installed again, still I'm facing the same issue. All other apps from British council is working perfectly fine.
Totally wrong sounds specially with i and u. Your phonemic chart on your website shows different sounds. Stop confusing students.
I love this app. It’s very helpful, but I've some confusion. The sound of this symbol (ɪ) was like "E" in your old version, but now the sound is like "A". 🤔🤔🤔😐🙄
Audio isn't clear enough. Would have been great if visuals are provided for lip moments etc.
I can't open the app at all. I've tried everything, re-installing etc. It just doesn't launch. Does this app not have Android support anymore?

Fix Please. Sounds should be clear & loud. Here sounds are not clear and loud. Add another voice.Not only Man's voice,woman's voice should be here.
It's ok, but it would be nice if it offered pronunciations in other major dialects, such as North American and Australian.
It's perfect to learn the vowel sounds amd understand them quickly... It'd be better if u guys add a text to speech too
Not as I expected. I thought I would get sound audio that would teach me how to pronounce words correctly for all the vocabulary
I learnt a many things that i didn't have any clue about them even didn't think i would get it.so this so so nice app regarding learning and improving your accent too.

Has the app stopped working on android? It used to work perfectly well on my device, but now it won't even open.
The top line of the vowel section is shocking. Please note: not only is the 'ee' sound in 'sheep' longer than the vowel in 'ship', it's also different; your mouth changes shape. The 'oo' in 'book' and 'boot' also changes. Please do not rely on this app for those sounds. I hope the developers will sort the sounds out soon - this could have been such a useful app.
