IT DOESNT WORK. The app everytime says connecting and the second you think it connected it isn't connected again. The move hub everytime goes to this rainbow color after going through red green and blue. It doesnt work on 2 devices and we tried reinstalling, changing batteries and switching devices. Nothing will make it work and now it's just a show piece. Would rate less than one star if I could. And I don't want to hear that we need to go to whatever website Lego keeps suggesting in reviews.🤬
The app has trouble connecting and updating the move hub. Once connected it works well, amazed it doesn't have a remote control feature based on the distance that the program can be changed at. Would have liked a physical instruction manual for the build simply for convenience.
Stuck nearly at the start: can't complete the Mouse droid first coding mission (after building it), because it seems that can't access the microphone (the noise activation block won't work). Completed flawlessly both similar missions with R2-D2 and the Gonk (and all the available Cantina missions with them). Beside that (and being a little bit intense for the battery of my phone) it seems a nice app.
Even after reading the reviews highlighting technical difficulties connecting the app to the Move Hub, we decided to purchase the Droid Commander set because we are a very technical family. Clearly, this was hubris. We've been driven mad by the never-ending cycle of verify device compatibility, uninstall-reinstall, turn off every other Bluetooth device in the house, try X, wait on hold, try Z, explain the issue again to a new support rep, try a firmware update, re-verify device compatibility, try it all again for the 10th time, but in a different order.... This is possibly our worst experience with a technical toy in over 12 years of parenthood. I'm 9 hours into my own troubleshooting efforts and ready to throw in the towel...and my developmentally disabled son, whose allegiance to Lego was sworn years ago because they are typically the go-to for challenging his processing skills, has even sworn off Lego as a whole (hopefully only temporarily!).
Bloated, temperamental and difficult/(impossible?) to install on non-flagship devices, then if you get that far forces users to jump build hoops before they can play but glitches out in recognising that models have been built, locking user out of main features. A frustrating and disappointing experience, Lego need to work much harder on making the app experience smooth and universal or give up putting apps at the core of the play experience.
Scanner needs help, but otherwise it is very fun to build and code! After coming back to this to complete missions, the robot Freeplay modes work fine. I get a "something weird happened" when trying to start any build modes for missions rendering the app useless. Please fix this! Android phone.
The digital building process is amazing! But when it came time to control the robot outside of Watto's shop, it would not load on my device (Samsung J7 Star), even after reinstalling the app. This essentially locked me in the tutorial forever. I could still build the robots, but I'm just sad that I cant go on any of the missions. The looked fun too...
A bit temperamental, but great fun. For freezing issues, clearing app data/cache worked for me. For Bluetooth connectivity issues, be sure to Google updating the firmware.
App does never ever connect to the move hub, tried several devices. Hub will go to constant blue light, but the app keeps telling me it's not connected. Tried resetting, taking out the batteries, everything, to no avail. Guess I now know why we shouldn't buy Lego, especially not with tech in it.
Connecting Bluetooth not easy. Spent alot of time with the app, I was only able to find solution by reading tips from the reviews via google play! Initial problem was updating firmware on the hub. I was able to connect after downloading the non-starwars boost app. Very confusing. After firmware updates, you then launch the Starwars boost app, prepare for more frustration. There's sparse explanation of how to "calibrate" R2. Poor product testing. Premature product launch!
When it works it seems really good, but it only works less than half of the time. I finally uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it worked again for a few minutes, then it failed to connect to the robot. I spend more time troubleshooting this app then actually helping my child play and learn. I'm very disappointed.
Fun but clunky. The building instructions are good and the way the app leads you to the missions is fun. However, the app is clunky and slow. It froze a few times and the navigation is confusing at times.
enjoying what I'm seeing but running the app seems to be heating up my phone just by having the instructions section open. i appreciate having the 3d viewer to fully know where to connect pieces but i think the set should have come with either the paper instructions or with a separate PDF link
It will not connect. At all. Same phone will connect with the regular boost set but not the star wars boost. I'm so disappointed. Traveled and worked at because of covid and when I could build this present with my son. It wouldn't work!
Assembled R2-D2 with my 9 year old, great app to use, 3D rendering, able to rotate each image to identify block placement. Would be nice to have an adjustable building difficulty to combine multiple steps.
What I've seen is this it works best on tablets but this just from videos but I think it does work on tablets that have good ram because they have bigger circuits and pieces making it run better than a phone I just put one star because I just wanted to post this so this not my real one but I have not gotten it to work so I am going to try on my tablet.
Really like this app! It's fun and works well with the lego set next to it but is a bit slow at connecting the droid to the device which can be frustrating at times. Overall pretty good lots of fun.
1st, this is LEGO, WHY need a Screwdriver!? 2nd, the connection problem is frustrating! Suggestion: -Add an option to allow connection troubleshoot. -Add instruction to press d green button for 10sec, stop press UPDATE firmware button. -Add link to check device compatibility. -remove the screw This is ALL u need to avoid angry frustrated users. Other than that, the app itself is great, beautiful graphic, nice 3D instructions, fun missions. Overall, welldone.
A terrible product, so frustrating to use! The 'wait for sound level' block triggers straight away (it doesn't wait for a sound) while the 'trigger on sound level' block works OK. I have worked out that it's actually your phone/tablet that is doing the sound sensing. A child will get bored of this very quickly. My little one is bored of me always trying to get it to work properly!
I am having what seems to be an extremely common problem. Used many different devices both apple and Android and nothing seems to work. I went to the LEGO store and they referred me back to you guys. Extremely frustrating and my son cannot play with our creations. I'm seeking a refund if I can't get it to work
Terrible. Does not work. Got a replacement hub and the app will not connect. Tried connecting to my droid hub from the app for Lego 17101 boost set and it worked. So problem is clearly with this app.
Awful app for a kid - constantly crashes. It has literally crashed almost every minute or two, sometimes even prompting a full tablet reboot (Google Pixel C). My kid can't do more than a step or two before the app hangs or crashes. He's super frustrated and I am super disappointed in Lego.
UPDATE: I called Lego Customer Service and discovered that you have to update the firmware on the hub. To solve the connection problem: 1. Download and open the original Lego Boost app (not the Star Wars one) 2. Pick any project and scroll through to the end of the build (to where it prompts you to connect to the hub) 3. Run the firmware update 4. Go back to the Star Wars app and it should connect Still oy giving 3 stars because this solution should be much easier to find
Having a little trouble figuring out how the robots move. The tutorial is not as user friendly and hard to repeat for refresher.
Waste of money. Can't connect on 5 devices. Everything enabled. Can't connect. I get a message that I need to download an app. Which I have already installed. Still cannot connect. My kids are frustrated.
Graphics and gameplay was not up to the mark. Controls are not smooth. Constantly asks to give access to personal data.
I bought this for my sons birthday in July and we are both disappointed that we can't get the app to sync with the droids. I called customer service after trying everything we could to get it to work. I was advised that there would be an update on the app to fix the issue but this still hasn't happened. Does anyone have any recommendations to get this to work?
Not very user friendly. We did the first 2 R2 missions. Now what? It says 40+ missions on the box, but how do you start them? No instructions on what any of the code blocks do, complete guess work required. Not happy. I'm a professional C++ developer and I find this impenetrable!
How was this app developed??? Over 350MB in size and it heats phones and tablets up to the point where the developers recommend taking breaks? As a software developer I do my best to keep my apps small and efficient. This app fails miserably on both counts.
All permissions enabled. All other Bluetooth devices turned off. Two different phones. Two different versions of Android. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Your app and/or device does not work. I don't want to can response about what I haven't tried. All I know isn't my $5 Bluetooth speaker connects to my phone. As soon as I turn it on your app is causing major problems. My phone is hot enough to cook an egg on and it's a brand new Pixel 6... Please fix your app.
