I have tried this app on an Android phone and a Chromebook. On both it gets as far as connecting to the EV3 with bluetooth then sticks on 'downloading program' for 5 minutes or so, then crashes. No help or advice that I can see. Renders the Mindstorms EV3 a very expensive and slow remote controlled car.
Works ok with Moto G8, Bluetooth paired ok after I discovered the brick needed it enabled first! Program download seemed to take a long time then the brick shut itself down after 2 mins. The code had actually downloaded ok though and I got a grabber claw working which was pretty cool for 10 mins setup. I'd recommend folks power up the brick and check settings first before trying to connect phones/tablets.
It would be great if it weren't for the fact that it doesn't connect with my EV3 brick. In short, it doesn't work, even on other devices that I tried. Maybe it's just because they're quite old, but still very disappointing - especially as other unofficial apps do work!
It is ridiculously difficult to connect, but it is possible to make it work on my Pixel 4a. Considering how expensive EV3 is, though, it should be much simpler
Works great and compared to other apps there is 0.01 second delay. But I would like to see a setting for how many slots there is for more to control on the robot.
it doesn't work reliably - it loses connection to the brick constantly. tried it on 3 Android versions with the same results. i can't find an alternative either - lego should get it fixed and updated. they've got the money to...
Would recommend using the EV3 IR remote over this app, as the app has had the same connection issues for MULTIPLE YEARS and has yet to be fixed.
Sadly, having the same experience as everyone else. After connecting to the brick, the app just says 'downloading program' and that's it. Bit of a poor show from a company that are normally very customer friendly, and especially if, as another poster has mentioned, this product is still on sale in official lego shops. Poor form, Lego.
Good app works for any model. We can also make our own robots and use the custom remote. Just I want to say that you may need to add switches for operating 2 or 3 ports.
Are LEGO even supporting this app anymore? I rarely even use it so I don't care what happens. In fact, I realise that this app has not been updated in a year now. LEGO have two choices: either go back to this app and fix the problem, or remove it from the Play Store and forget about it. End of story.
It was extremely disappointing: 1) The Bluetooth wouldn't switch between two different Bricks 2) Action time between device and actual robot movement was VERY delayed 3) Nothing in the "Support"; "About MINDSTORMS";etc. drop-down box would open because it couldn't connect to the internet 4) The whole app was not user-friendly.
Doesn't work. Same issues as others have posted. Connected with both Android and chromebook, no response after downloading. Kids majorly disappointed.
What a useless experience...Tried 3 different Android devices of various OS versions and none connect. Spent two days trying everything. Borrow an iPad and boom, working within 5 minutes. Sort it out Lego, the reviews on here speak for themselves. Going to be thousands of disappointed kids on Christmas day who can't get it to work on Android. And when Lego support initially say it isn't compatible with Android, only iPad etc....you have to wonder what the heck is going on...
It is so bad when trying to connect to the brick. The app has way to many bugs that need to be fixed this year. Otherwise, it may be the worst app in the play store and app store
Pixel 2 XL connects to the robot, but when I push download it waits indefinitely. I have tested the Bluetooth download from my PC to the robot and that still functions. Something is broken on the app.
The board for the custom controls should be as big as possible, for example, I can't 3 motors at once with the controls I like
After pairing with the EV3, the app gets stuck in "downloading program" with no access to any kind of help, instructions or any clue what it's doing or why it's stuck.
This app is great but I have tried a lot of times to connect the Bluetooth again and again and suceeded about three times would give it five stars if the Bluetooth could be fixed
Before you read this review, please notive that i am summarizing the review about the Commander and the Programmer App. Commander app: 4☆ The app works well I like the fact that Lego has added the create and command section but the only problem is that I can't use it. Programmer App: 0-1 ☆I can't find the app, I have looked all around the play store and App Store and I cannot find it, really deciving. Overall: 3☆
Best looking app., doesn't work though. All I get is the downloading screen after selecting the appropriate build. Then lose the download when the build shuts down.
Doesn't work on Android... tried with 3 different devices. For such an expensive toy a really expected it to work. Now my sons are stuck with an overpriced remote controlled toy
App controls robot via Bluetooth but says it's not connected to internet. My phone is definitely connected so not sure what to do.
Does not work and I can't acually code with it it just gives me the option to select my controls. Even if that was better once I pair it it just loads.
it works really well and the ev3rstorm is amazing one thing you can improve is creating your own robot 🤖 because it crashes sometimes. By Declan age 10
Doesn't work on Android, tried multiple different devices, phones, tablets, various Android versions, the app won't recognize any EV3 device connected, the same experience with Programmer App. My son is very disappointed. Do not buy until this bug is fixed.
