Libby, by OverDrive

I love that I can take books out from the library, on multiple devices, using this app. I was unable to get my reading progress, et , to sync, despite following the steps necessary to do so. But after I uninstalled and reinstalled Libby on my tablet and went through the steps again, then Libby synced with no further issues. I love that I can read what I want on any device, any time, without an internet connection.

Overdrive is better and I'm upset this mess is what's replacing it. I hope they at least bring back the suggestion like Overdrive when it shuts down. Finding anything in this app is a headache and I'll just have to go to the library site to find anything interesting. Also recommending new books to the library is obsolete or I can't find out how. Also there's no refining the results with more than one subject.

The greatest app ever!!! I especially love the ability to check out audiobooks and appreciate the notifications when materials are ready to be checked out or when they are soon coming due. The app is super easy to use. 10 stars!!! UPDATE....I do wish that I could request from my local library, through the Libby app, a book or audiobook that is not available in Libby.

Not happy with the audiobook feature. Overdrive keeps checkout until due date but Libby doesn't. When I see the wait list is long, I download the audiobook to my phone then return the copy via website so I am not rushing to finish the book or holding up the line. With Libby, as soon as I return the checkout via website, Libby syncs automatically and delete the title on my phone. I can only anticipate longer library waits in the future! Not happy!!!!

Love the ease of finding and reserving books. I use both thr visual and audio formats. Always open to correct spot. If I also use a physical version easy to move ahead. While the automatic return is helpful, it is frustrating that the book is returned so early in the day. I had two chapters to finish a book, I had no idea the book would disappear@8 in the morning!!! Frustrating I have to wait a month to read the last two chapters. Even the end of the business day would make more sense.

Such a great invention. I use it to checkout books before deciding to purchase. I do feel like there are two critical components missing. The first—and likely easiest—is support for native casting. It's possible without, but a little more involved and disruptive. The second is to see the text while listening to audiobooks. Sometimes books have odd transitions that can only be explained by the visual formatting of words in the page. I have less hope for this due to licensing complexities.

I have had an awesome and amazing experience, and I don't just use those mighty words lightly. I had Audible, where you Pay for the service and your options just get smaller and books are so expensive and continue to rise in price, and you get ONE book a month, and if you love reading I don't have to tell you how disappointing and frustrating that is, especially if you make a bad choice. Libby makes borrowing digital books, audiobooks, etc a truly fast, easy and satisfying experience. And it's all free. All you need is a library card. The ability to manage your loans, holds, notifications, etc, is a must have I wasn't even aware I needed. The audiobook player, with all its functions, is absolutely wonderful. Thank you for making it so easy to rent books and other digital content from our local library! A must-have for all readers!!!

My books stop every. Ten. Minutes. On any devise. It's already set to always run on top. It's getting worse. Any time I have to pause, I have to go into the app and restart the book. Every. Single. Time. It skips the last 30 seconds of every chapter on all devices. If you can afford it, use Audible. If you can't, you're stuck with this trash. Poor people can't have nice things, apparently. It's also eating my mobile data now cuz it won't work offline.

This app has constant problems! I have emailed for help many times and nothing's been fixed. It skips forward a free seconds and or becomes distorted (which is very loud if using a Bluetooth speaker), it randomly plays parts from other audiobooks, and almost always takes forever to play once I've pushed the play button, if it starts at all. Not to mention this app is set up weird, if I push the back button it doesn't take me back to the previous page.

Frustrating. I use this on a Chromebook. Ever since Overdrive started pushing this thing, I've hated it. A dumbed down version of Overdrive, the best website program for searching thru on line public library titles. Looking for something on Libby is awful. It's slow. It seems to forget my preferences for what I want and the reader is not great either. BLAH! It is supposed to have multi device sync but it sux too. It forgets my libraries. It makes me repeatedly log in and reload card data. UGH

Great app! Makes borrowing e-books from the library easier than ever before. I wish the Maine State Library System would go back to using Overdrive now that Libby makes it so much easier. Update: Still so pleased with this app and recommend it to all avid readers. I use it because it means I can borrow and read library books on a device that uses e-ink and doesn't run apps (Kindle Paperwhite). I don't read books on computer and phone screens! Update 5/13/22: Still one of my most essential apps!

Terrible to use on my phone. When I get to the end of a chapter and try to swipe to the next, I just see blank pages. If I turn my phone to horizontal view, it skips back about 30 pages. The only way to find my place again is to memorize where I am in the book and then find that in the contents. If I close and reopen the app, it will work properly for a bit again, so I assume it's a glitch. Super frustrating! I miss Overdrive.

For the most part, a great app for virtual lending. Easy to add books, search, and borrow. Fairly seamless process to open digital books in app or through Kindle. The audiobook function could use a little tweaking - marking how much is read by date isn't an automated process right now. Also wish we could sort audiobooks by duration. The tag feature doesn't sync between devices, but that's not a big deal for me.

I used to pay $10/month for Kindle Unlimited but decided to see how easy it would be to use my public library. It was a breeze! The search feature includes a filter to narrow search results. A great feature is that I don't have to remember to return the books on time. The book is automatically returned on the due date without any effort on my part.

Confusing, not user friendly. Don't like user experience. Not clear when books are usable or ready. Have some on hold. Next thing is not available. Don't like the symbols icons. I guess clock means books I'm waiting for. Building means books you don't want. And 3 lines means how many libraries do you have access to. Good part is, when a book is already available, I can chose the playback speed. Meh.

It's awesome to be able to rent books from the library. The app though is slow and locks up very often when browsing titles. It takes a long time to pull up a description of the book after you select it. Crashes far too often. Really glad to be able to "visit the library" during the pandemic. UPDATE: Things have improved with the updates. Much faster transitions and better stability.

I love having lots of books and audio books available for free without having to go to the library. I use this app a lot. I am a little frustrated though because it seems after the last update I have begun having problems while listening to audio books. It frequently crashes or just stops playing. Most times I unlock the screen and it starts playing again automatically. Sometimes I have to actually hit play. Would be 5 stars if it didn't have issues.

It's fantastic. For anyone that uses the Library, it's a must have. Only issues I have are that it defaults to the shortest rental time period -7 days, with no prompt or or anything. 2nr I don't find the app to be that intuitive. You really have to explore to find what you want to do. Lastly I can't find that you can cast audio books, which is crazy annoying. It's 2022 come on. Aside from those issues it's fantastic.

Great idea, needs some work. I love listening to books while I drive, and during my down time at work. One of the biggest problems with this app is when I pause the book, if a notification comes through on my phone, it starts playing again. So if I want to keep my place I have to bookmark every time I pause, or just close out the app completely. It's pretty frustrating.

Absolutely love this app! It's great for reading, you can easily increase the font and it stays there, you don't have to readjust for every book. The only downfall is if you read series, many of them are not complete, it might be a 10 book series and they have only 8 of the 10, or a4 series book might have 2 and 3 but not 1 and 4. That kinda stinks.
