Overall, it's great, especially because it's free. It would be helpful if the ads were played at the same volume as the reading. Right now, they're way louder than the reading. It would also be helpful if there was a way to make the various readers of a book the same volume; some are very quiet, while others are ready loud. But again, overall, it's a great app! I use it almost every day.
Loving it so far! Personally I could do with the playing screen controls to be larger for better ease of returning to an earlier paragraph etc, but that's not enough to lose any stars. Having discovered Librivox via The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, I'm looking forward to exploring further later.
I actually really like this app, but I don't use it as often as would otherwise if I could find a way to get the books to do continuous play. No matter what I have th settings at, it always stops play at the end of a chapter. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I have checked and rechecked all the settings, but it still stops at the end of the chapter.
Works well except that when reading a text, the first word of every paragraph/ sentence seems to be clipped off, as if the narrating voice doesn't sync with the words properly. This makes it hard to understand a complex text.
I always would rather wait to rate an application, but the creators always seem to think I'll develop an opinion much quicker than anyone could ever get to know one; a books'application for sure. But it seemed to work okay the first book I asked to hear! I really miss Oodles books'application but I think they got attitudinal about my deciding not to go adds free or some rather weird glitch otherwise exists with that application (Oodles), I'm pretty sure!
Not bad for free access to classic public domain books. It's kinda hit or miss on the reader/narrator though. Downloading books saved and made this app for me. Streaming didn't always work to great so downloading helped but there was still issues from time.
Love it! This app is so easy to use and easy to enjoy. The selection of titles are all classics that are read by librivox volunteers and their interpretations of the tone of the stories are priceless. I really love this app.
Loving this app, got you on both phones now! Interestingly, on Galaxy S7, Android 8.0.0, the audio is pretty quiet, whereas on S10Lite, Android 12, full volume would damage the ears! Both handsets work the same with recorded music.
No author list? No clear hyperlinks? No clear system of ordering search results? No list of narrators? Plus the forward-reverse buttons are a bit buggy (sometimes end up at 0mins after backtracking 10s, and the buttons don't feel tactile, like on Spotify) Otherwise good
Nice place to find public domain audiobooks for free. Good selection, many readers, some better than others so you have to hunt a little bit sometimes. Ads are a necessary annoyance
Ads and won't let you download. Edit: Finally figured out how to download, but the blasted ads still play unless you turn off wifi and data. If they weren't so much louder than the book, perhaps they would be tolerable, but there is no chance of relaxing with the current ad nonsense.
My first book i found after some searching. Was annoyed by audio ads interrupting my reading. Then my second book i just couldn't find. This app is not usable. I'll just use the Librivox website. Jeez.
I love the choice of books, the excelent readers and, even though I payed for the app, don't mind the advertisements. They don't interrupt the reading. I only wish there was a way to increase the font size because I am visually impaired.
Awesome concept! Can't get much better than this for free! Some of the narration is not everyone's cup of tea, but they usually have more than one 'version' for the books. All the readers are volunteer. It's a labour off love. I'm grateful for the time and editing that's gone into all of this. If you don't like something, you have the opportunity to do it yourself. The ads aren't too bad and add free is less than two dollars at the time of this review. Absolutely worth trying!
I was an early Audible user and have stayed with them but very much enjoy the LibreVox app, especially for classics. The app design is top notch and the listening controls are very good.
This is a wonderful app for those with failing eyesight or those who are travelling. There is an excellent range of genres and titles. Many thanks to the volunteer readers!
It's such an awesome app the audiobooks takes us to that era. I have completed 2 audiobooks and the collections are not monotonous I mean they have audiobooks of all genres. LibriVox you are doing great work.
This is a very good app, with a massive store of classic books to suit all reading tastes; it's really nice to hear your favourite book read on audio, even if you already have the book in standard shelf form. Thank you LibriVox team 👍
It's a good app. All books are in the public domain, so if you've already read all the oldies but Goodies, there won't be anything new for you. The narrators are all volunteers, so the quality is a little hit or miss.
Finding time to read is hard for me with work and busy farm home life. I love hearing books on audio so I can still "read" while working at the office or on the farm makes the day go by and I enjoy every reader I have heard so far. I truly appreciate this app.
I thought the audio ads would be gone with paid version, but now they are back. Is it a mistake or a change? Edit: I thought I purchased your app, but apparently I didn't cause there was an ad removal link in settings now.
Great for publoc domain works! Some voices on the ensemble reads are obnoxious sometimes, but for free and publicly sourced content its awesome! I caught up on all the classics I missed when I was in school
I am loving this audio book app! I have always loved reading physical books, to the point that, at 59, I finally tried an audio book. My eyesight has gotten worse over the years, and there's simply too many books to "read" before I die. I settled on the LibriVox Audio Books app because of the easy, fun to use app, great book selection and great readers they have.
