My favourite app for all things audio book! Some amazing narrators bring to life some incredible stories, including genres I had absolutely zero interest in until hearing how passionate the storytellers can be. Cannot recommend highly enough! ❤️
It has a fairly good library of books. The readers are all volunteers, so some are obviously better than others. The app can be slow and a little glitchy from time to time, sometimes requiring a re-start. It's still my favorite free audio book app, and I do recommend it to anyone with a thirsty brain. Also, if you have the time and talent, please consider volunteering.
excellent app, listening is almost always smooth, and some great audiobooks for free. what more could you want? on rare occasion it may stop and have to restart chapter, but that was only while driving, so maybe it was my crappy phone service? and it remembers where you left off. some readers are definitely better than others, but some books have multiple versions, so you can try a different version to find a narrator or voice you like better. I would highly recommend LibriVox to anyone.
Big thanks to the volunteers. The app works well, but the layout doesnt work well on my phonel. Audio visualization displays over the play button, and it takes a while to navigate through the menus just to continue playing the current book. If you are currently listening to a book, couldnt this just be docked to the bottom or something? Some genre listings are waaaaaay off. Not sure how some books ended up where they are.
I love librivox! Its amazing to have so many free audio books at my finger tips. Not just an app, this is a public servic! But, playback can be glitchy. If I say, fall asleep listening, then backtrack the next day, when i click my phone screen off, the audio often stops completely, or jumps ahead to where i had previously ended. It's mostly frustrating when im driving and i can't fix it. Otherwise, love this app. Love the books; as a low income person, I'm extremely thankful for this service.
This is a review of the app, not librivox, which I immensely appreciate and enjoy. This app stops or pauses for an extremely long time (eg 20 minutes or more) on my Google Pixel 2XL. In order to get the next chapter to play, I have to jump to another chapter, then back, then play. I've had similar problems occasionally with different pixel phones and different versions. Unfortunately, with short chapters, this makes listening rather difficult.
Large selection of mostly public domain titles. Quality of audio books is variable as they're primary read by volunteers. My biggest issue is with the limited interface when using through Android Auto. Specifically you can only move backward and forward by sections. Each section is usually 1 or more chapters.
Lots of public domain books Frida anybody to read. Books go back a long way and time. Old time sci-fi books, dramas, mysteries and just about anything. People on their own time recite and record each book, some books have one narrator whereas other books may have a different narrator for each chapter. Enjoy, as I have done for many years.
If you are looking for the sleek professional audio book experience then go to audible and buy them, if you want a huge library that people have have given their own time to, that is entertaining and will help you pass the time then you have found the perfect app. Thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work, well done LibriVox.
I enjoy the many options of audiobooks provided (especially the classics)! I like that many of the books are broken into chapters, & that there also is a review system within the app which is helpful in determining some of the better readers & audiobook quality. I truly appreciate all of the volunteer readers that help make this app possible! 😊
This version of the app is far more difficult to use than the older version originally on the same tablet: the keyboard pops up immediately rather than the book I am reading and I can find no way to have it retreat. I would rather not be offered New material before I am finished with the current material. I wate time and temper retrieving my reading. A "How to Use Thiss App" seems needed. I do like the timer though and am pleasec it was not eliminated on this version.
LibriVox is one of my favorite apps. So many great audiobooks right at your fingertips! Navigation on the app is pretty intuitive, and it is possible to speed up or slow down the narrator. There are occasionally ads between chapters, but they're short.
librivox is my go-to for all kinds of reading/audio. When I want to hear a story, learn about history, science, it keeps me thinking. When I want to sleep, I choose something else more soothing (solo readers, only) turn on the timer and no worries, only rest soon! Thanks, librivox!
Great app, seems to be updated recently and gotten easier to navigate, It is a fantastic way so explore the public domain. Good for amyone trying to catch up on the classics and find forgotten gems, not all readers are equal, but I am sure you'll find some you love.
The content is great but the app itself is poorly designed. The best I can say is the app is not evil or annoying and the key functionality works as expected all the time.
WONDERFUL app, providing such a mix of books & voices. Especially excellent for listening to books read years ago, or books you always INTENDED to read, but didn't. My current favorite reader: Peter Yearsley, esp. The Song of Hiawatha.
The sleep timer seems to have changed, I'm only able to set it to sleep in hour increments instead of minutes. Less convenient for listening at bedtime.
Free version is best *free* out there. Minimum issues with placement of ads. No pop ups. Yet.. Repository of books you can access for free is very impressive.
App constantly crashes and resets the book of your phone gets a notification (txt message, email,etc...) the newest update made it far worse than before. The earlier version if you got notification it was fine you just couldn't open the message, now it just crashes
Great reads, and great stories. AVOID IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE SOMETHING. IF YOU LOOSE IT, YOU WILL HAVE TO REBUY IT. LIBERVOX DOESN'T SAVE PURCHASES. I made the mistake of buying a new phone when my old one caught a bullet. I went to download my $30 book, and liarvox had absolutely no record of the purchase.
For all the work done and available for free, I would give this more than 5 stars. I've spent many enjoyable hours listening to these volunteers. However, I just updated my phone and now the search engine is almost useless. Some of my favorite books, authors, and readers now seem to be gone from the system. Thanks for checking into this, Librivox.
As much as I love this app, and the organization behind it, it has been fairly unusable lately. It doesn't remember your place, it sometimes doesn't let you fast forward, or rewind. It almost never plays the next chapter. This even makes it dangerous for use while driving.
