Life of a Wizard

Write an archmage's autobiography in this 80-year 130,000-word interactive fiction! Play good or evil, man or woman, as you bring peace to the kingdom or take over the world with your sorcery. Brew potions, raise the dead, summon mythical beasts, control men's minds, and blast away your enemies.
"Life of a Wizard" is an epic interactive novel where you control the main character. In each chapter, your choices determine how the story proceeds.

Will you find romance, get married, or have children? Will you become the arch-mage, grand bishop, nature-loving druid, hardened battle-mage or even an undead lich? The choice is yours!

Not enough content, really. Coming to this as an outsider to the genre and disappointingly it's what I expected. Fill in the blanks for names, pick the right options to pass the stat checks you want later on, etc. A game can go as quick as 15 mins with basically no variability between routes. You want to be a benevolent leader or a conqueror? It's the same path and same set of skill checks. Disappointed I didn't refund. The writing is fine though.

So nice to play an old style game with a higher priority on story telling and player choice rather than pronouns and ideology.

This app is a string of events that progress. It is no continuing story, that draws me in. I played the game 3 or 4 times and each time I didn't care about the characters. The Great Tournament had a story where you cared about the individuals. This doesn't do that.

This is a great game, and I'm noticing more crossover with other games written by the same person, which makes the while thing even better. The only problem I'm having is that I cannot download the game onto my computer without having to buy it again. If there's a way around it, I would love to hear it, as I've already paid for the game, and the convenience of having it on my computer isn't worth buying it a second time.

This game is what I expect out of CYOA games. There is really only one path, but there are so many ways to go down it that each playthrough can feel unique and organic. My one gripe is how the characters are not really anything more than clay puppets, but it's easy to ignore that for everything else that's so interesting in this game.

Rushed story and not enough character personalisation. There is no real interaction between the leading character and all others, as you simply select what your connection to a person is, without building it. Answers are also too obvious and the plotline is quite simple.

This is a wonderful choose your own adventure game! The writing is good and the options are well thought out and fun. I love finding out how my earlier choices affect things later on. I just finished my first run and I can't wait to start over!

I really enjoyed this game. Unlike alot of the games on here, this one is the player looking back on their life and telling you their story. It's a unique idea and I liked it alot. Lots of replayability, worth the purchase

A wonderfully crafted experience. It is very immersive, and thanks to all the choices it has great replayability

Isn't as good as the great tournament. This is just pick options without and effect on the story game. I was a 70 year old wizard with a wound on my leg and suffering a decaying curse from a god and was able to outrun young men, climb trees and live through winter without magic.

Awesome game. Although only 2 ending choices (4 with successful and fail). I hope there is a sequel, i don't care whether it is direct or indirect sequel If the sequel exists, please let me know

Great game, wish there was more ways to use necromancy as there were some time when it would have worked great lol.

This was a fantastic story to play through. My half orc had one emotional adventure, I was sad when it ended. But in a happy way. I do have one question, is this story set in the same world as 'The Lost Heir', cause both the kingdoms and their capitals are named the same. I'm just curious. Anyways, fun story, good job.

It's entertaining, although ur choices doesn't affect the progression of the story, it still cause a big difference in character build. It is challenging to complete all of the achievements, u will be indulged in multiple playthroughs without being bored. It can be improved if there's more freedom in the actions though, and if there are more variety in the course of the story instead of a linear story. It feels like we're just filling the blanks of a book that's written instead of a writing a new book.

The only qualms I have for this book-game is the change in story-line; no matter your choices, it is pretty much the same from play-through to play-through. Each time, you hit certain key points in the game and it ends up only slightly different. For instance, no matter your race, you start at the same village. This kinda puts a hamper on replay value. First few runs are great though.

I would give it 10 stars this game has the best story line ever unlike there other game life of a mobster but I applause this one the mid-evil setting is very interesting but the chouses you make don't effect the story line but that doesn't stop me from putting 5 stars love it Please make sequel and thank you for. the expierience its very much worth it i set in one spot for 30 min please make sequel

Mike Walters makes another enjoyable story. Its a lot more forgiving of your mistakes than the the Lost Heir trilogy but a good all rounded game. My only complaint is the lack of character development; just a little bit of back story on any of your companions would have been good.

I bought this game because I thought it would be like other choose-your-own adventures, but instead I recieved instead a storyless plot where the choices just decides which areas your points go. It's basically collecting skill points in mini quest after mini quest until your skills reach 100 and you grow old.

While a good attempt, Life of a Wizard suffers from a rushed storyline that doesn't actually have that many outcomes of significant difference. The characters don't have the depth or personality of other interactive fiction, and I really didn't care at all when any of the characters left the story. Also, many of the stories have a "give up and go home" option, which really ruins the experience. Ultimately, it's just more of a " try to have these certain stats at the end" thing than I was hoping.
