Love the concept but the App and Lime as a whole are very unreliable. I've ran into so many bugs and issues with the app. - Being unable to ride on a designated riding trail, and the app tells me I'm in an unauthorized area, when it's actually not. Then having to either lock it up and waste the dollar, or walk it out of the area, all while the time is charging money. - I've been in situations where my phone service wasn't working great, and after I arrive to my destination, i couldn't end the ride using the app for 10+ minutes, getting charged the whole time. - Walking out of my way to find a bike, only to try and scan it and it tells me it's unavailable Overall poor, unreliable user experience and it often causes me more hassle than a convenient ride.
Great idea but some significant problems, beware of no parking and no-ride zones. GPS is not very good so you can be stuck, unable to return a vehicle, in a spot that it is allowed. It will also let you drive well into a no riding zone and then you have to walk your scooter back out of it, while still being charged. Has happened multiple times in both Minneapolis and Boulder. I cannot rely on the scooter to get me somewhere. I really like the idea but I'll be switching to nice ride mpls bikes.
UPDATE: Thanks Lime for the quick response, appreciated, but I'd much rather have had feedback on my bigger issue, why users can't book nearby scooters. ORIGINAL: While I really enjoy riding Lime scooters, the app can be unintuitive at times. My biggest problem with it, is that I can't book a scooter if I am near it. To give an example, right now, I'm sat in my office. It's close to 5pm, and I finish work soon. So do many other people. There is a scooter right outside my office. It happens to be the one I rode in on. It would make complete sense now for me to go into the app and book it, so that when I finish work, it's there ready for me to go. Instead, I click on the scooter and I have an unlock option, but no option to book. For literally every other scooter, I can book it, but not the one outside my office. I can only pin point the problem here being due to me being within the green circle. Please, Lime, allow booking of scooters that are nearby! Another minor problem I have is with billing. I bought £30 of credit (the £9 of credits are really nice to have) but it was really unclear how to actually use it. When I would start my ride, I would still be asked for google pay confirmation. As it happens, it would still take the money from my credit, and the google play confirmation is just in case I go over my credit amount. I've renewed a few times now, so this has become second nature, but was really confusing at times. It would have been nice to have been a bit more sign-posted what was going on. However, there is still an ongoing issue I have with all of that. See, I also bought the monthly Lime Prime which wavers the £1 ride start fee. Of course it's nice to have cheaper journeys, but another benefit of this is being able to change the scooter, if you find one you don't like. The other day for example, the bell was broken on the scooter I'd unlocked. With lime prime, it's nice being able to change my mind and not be charged the ride start fee again. Except, with the 9 x £1 credits I get from buying £30 of credit, if decide I want to change my scooter as I have a problem with the one I'm riding, I loose one of my credits, because it's automatically applied. And not even that, but it also makes smaller trips in general inconvenient. Lets say I want to skip a 15-20 minute walk and get a scooter instead. 3 minutes and I'm there. In total, that would cost £1 for start up fee, then 20p a minute, so £1.60 in total. With lime prime, I don't have the startup fee, so just 60p. Awesome! But I loose a whole £1 credit. A journey that would have cost 60p has instead cost £1, which leaves a bit of a sour taste. This could be easily solved by asking the rider at the end of the journey how they would like to pay, and whether to consume a promo. There are three scooter providers in my town - Lime, Ginger and Spin. I haven't tried out the others, as their apps were really bad, and frankly it put me off, so Lime got my business. But that doesn't make their app great, it just makes it less bad, leaving me at 3 stars. But to be honest, if new competition comes in, it won't have to do a lot to win me over.
First time user. Installed and got a ride in Frankfurt (Germany). Went to my destination. Tried to end the ride only to be quite unpleasantly surprised that I was in a "forbidden" zone aka "no locking possible". So, to return to that "ALLOWED" zone, I've done almost 2km altogether AND then had to walk back to my destination. SUGGESTION! Pop-up notification that notifies the new user in town (or in general) about the zones. How'bou'dat? Keshyou ousside. Peace. (uninstall)
For apps which provide basic services (such as transport), people are much more likely to leave a review when they've had a negative experience - otherwise, they just take such apps for granted and hence don't feel the need to "compliment" them by rating them highly. That's why the rating for this app is so low. However, in reality, the scooters are really satisfying to use and are in good shape, the setup procedure is simple, the UI is clean, etc. The Google Play rating is highly deceptive.
It turned on but the cable lock just wouldn't unlock. The app only allows me to say scooter unlocked successfully. So I went with the lie and immediately ended the ride. But the app have been counting this entire time and charged me for it. The report problem page freezes multiple times when trying to take a picture. Only 4 useless FAQs that didn't cover equipment failures. Glitches everywhere and no way to contact support when things glitched out.
Nothing good to say, sorry... I gave this app a second chance and they haven't improved at all: issues when locking the scooters while the meter is running on my credit card (scary!), no answer from support (after one day), app failed when sending feedback, and not easy to remove previous payment cards... Sorry, but I really can't think of anything good
8 km/h speed limit in some regions and it doesn't let you lock in many areas. You can't see which zones are prohibited BEFORE starting the ride, so you might end up in a zone where you are both speed restricted and can't end the ride, but you still have to get back into a normal zone to end the ride to stop your card being drained. You'll find yourself pushing forward (the 8 km/h zone is more like 5km/h so it's faster just pushing it yourself) until the nearest point where you can lock.
The user experience is not good. We tried taking 4 scotters for our family. It is hard, helmets are dirty. Battery low. If you want to pause payment for a moment (which is a nice feature) you have to take the helmet off and lick it back. When we did pause it , it converted to ending the ride and wanted bill us again to turn it on. We couldn't turn it on due to zoning. It tried so many times to charge the card, that the credit card company started to deny the payment.
Budapest: When you try to park, you can only park in a few small painted areas, ONLY if they are NOT full! Finding a free parking slot is a nightmare, going after each one, until I finally found one that is completely free. Only to have the app or their server crashed and not able to park because the app was seeing all the parking full, even the empty ones. I've lost more than 30 minutes trying to park their scooter and the ride was 10 minutes. If I took walking it would've taken 20 minutes.
I do not recommend this app at all. If you want to get your card charged while you stop a moment to take a picture of your surroundings, you're in for a miserable experience. Within all apps created in Google's ecosystem, this is definitely the greatest failure. I was charged 25 euros for being idle (me always beside the scooter) They make money off "fines" which are randomly charged at you if you stop. Not recommend for tourism at all. You're better of at renting a bike locally than using this.
Missing options, collecting points without any rewarding system, passes are for scooters and bikes but bikes are not available, a bit pricey. I still like the idea of an alternative fun transportation method. I wish you all the best and hopefully 5 stars next time.
Would really love it if like all other of these kinds of apps they had a manual refresh on the map screen showing all of the nearby scooters. My app glitched, no longer showing me nearby scooters, and I can't hit any refresh button to find any. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app does nothing. Really frustrating experience.
App doesn't work... Like at all. It worked yesterday. Very aggravating. Thankfully I live in an area where there are plenty of competitors that have functioning apps that I can choose from. ✌🏻 Lime!
Total trash, they're only useful for very specific areas. Zero convenience whatsoever. Needs a destination function so you don't try to ride 2 miles into a no parking zone only to have to push your way back.
The user experience will be vastly different depending on where you are using it. In my hometown, a large Midwestern college City, the rates are pretty high and options are limited. On vacation in say, Washington DC, where you have the ability to get unlimited rides for a flat rate for 24 hours ($17, May 2022), and tons of scooters/bikes, it really shines. The app can be glitchy but it's easily worked around with a restart or simple troubleshooting. Some scooters are in rough condition so beware
great for commuting or just riding around town came from America it was very easy to use on the app as long as you are able to use your data. definitely a great way to get around to your garden and other parts of Berlin.
Verry bad experience. I found a scooter and I took it, I wanted to use it for a short distance. After that I saw that in the are is not permitted to use it, but they started to take my money out. So I could not stop , because there was not a parking area and I had to go 2-3 kilometers to park it in another direction that I needed to go. Worst experience ever. Don't use it.
Their maps are rubbish, extremely inaccurate and unreliable. Try to incorporate the Google maps. The worst map I have ever experienced in my life. The ride itself is good.
This service is still an embarrassment after all these years. It charged me for a ride when the throttle never worked, then the second time it limited the scooters speed to maybe 3 mph. This is after it rejected text verification and required my partner to create a new account with a new email. Really never worth using even if you ever find yourself in the rare area you're allowed to park.
Tried registering on the app but was unable to verify my driver's licence. I tried all suggested fixers on the web i.e. unistalling and reinstalling the app, etc but no success. I ended up looking at the reviews and was put off the whole thing as there seems to be countless issues even after registering. Such a shame coz the concept is good.
Totally useless in Budapest. I've signed in to discover the city only to find out you can only lock it (and therefore stop the meter) in just less than a fifth of the city, and of course as you can guess nowhere interesting and also miles away from my hotel. I've spent most of my fare getting out of the red area to be able to park it, only to walk it back. Plus the map isn't clear at all in a city you don't know, I had to go back and forth to GMaps to know where I wanted to go. Never again.
