LINE Lite: Free Messages

Finally a lite version for Line! The normal app is 81m! To be honest, I've always hated Line 'cause you can't use it unless you have a phone number. (had to install it because my company forces everyone into using it for work…) It is completely contradictory that an app that relies on an internet connection to make calls or to text cannot function wihout having a phone number… Plus, it seems you cannot erase any friends… ugh! But at least, it's cool to have provided us with a lite version.

This app is completely useless to me now. It always gives me an error message : "A network error has occurred. Please try again later." My network is completely fine though. Even before, there were times my messages weren't sent. I tried clearing the cache, clearing the app data, uninstalling & reinstalling but to no avail, the issue wasn't resolved or improved even a bit. If only Line Corporation could make it that users can open one Line account on multiple devices, I'd probably be happier.

Glad this is back. Except... I keep getting a network error when trying to login. This app is great for people who want to use line multiple devices. Work phone and personal phone can now have the same line account on both devices. So I look forward to seeing this login error corrected.

Not quite as good as the regular version but that was to be expected. If reading this after this rating, dont waste your time downloading it. I logged in today and got a message from them saying the would be getting rid of this Lite version before the end of february and that chats from it wouldnt be recoverable in the full version. Just a heads up. Decent while it lasted. Cheers

I'd like to start off with the fact this app is great. It has all the basic fundamentals of LINE that is essential for me while still keeping its size extremely low. However it just need one more feature, because this bugs me off completely. Here, there is no option to back up or restore your chats, so for example I want to switch back to the regular LINE, I will lose everything I have done using LINE lite and it really bugs me out that you can't back up / restore. At least backup is needed.

If you get a new phone, you will lose all your chat history permanently. There's no way to back up chat history for chats received using the LINE Lite app. Syncing with the PC version doesn't really work either - you can only see messages from after you started syncing, and you can only export chats one page at a time and in plain text. Otherwise this app gets the job done well. It's not missing any other feature I care about.

The only version of LINE that's truly usable on a tablet. The full LINE app is primarily intended to be phone-only ... while certain screens can be displayed in landscape, others force the tablet into portrait which ultimately makes it unusable. LINE Lite is limited in other ways, like the sticker functionality and photo quality, but if you're just seeking to use it as a standard messaging app, it does everything that's strictly needed. It sure would be nice if full LINE supported landscape.

There are some bugs but nice experience with stickers. Sometimes chats did not switch. You change chat and start typing to other person, but everything is being sent to the previous person. You just notice you sent your texts to the wrong person after some time. It can lead to very awkward situations. It also gets very slow, but you can restart time to time.

Well. Finally, logged back in to my account. For those who having "not receiving the code" issue, i'd say to contact Line customer care. To be honest, log in options are too complicated. I think it need to be modified or changed. Other than that, i don't see any other issues with the app. And I like the fact that it doesn't take as much as storage, unlike the main app. Overall, i think it's pretty useful.

I really love you guys' idea to make the lite version. But we as the user experienced a lot of problems as the basic features wasn't there. Such as group notes, announcement, pin chat, etc. Is it impossible to add those features without making this lite version heavy? If it isn't, then just develop it, we would be very very delighted, thanks

I've been using Line for over a year now. Overall, I don't have good experience with Line comparing to the other messaging platforms. I have to use it just because it's popular where I'm living at. I'm a user and a software developer too so my review can be biased on the technical point of view. But honestly, there're a lot of things you can improve, Line team: 1. There're too many things (which I will never use) in it, that leads to the UI/UX is not easy to use. Every time I want to use something other than chat, it takes time to switch and look around to find the correct button/menu. 2. No one care about your web search, when I search in Chats, please return the contact names and messages only (or at least display the result for contact immediately, then the other later). Searching from web makes it very slow, unacceptable. 3. Emojis or stickers is not searchable. 4. Not developer-friendly. Confusing bot types/names (Line Trial, Line@, Line@Official Account, Line for Business...), documentation is not up-to-date. Rate limit is too low: 1000 messages / month?!? Are you kidding me? That means 3 1-to-1 messages per day. Oh and to make it even worse, if I send a message in a 20-member-group, it will be counted as 20 messages used. LOL.

(July 7 update) Once again: unless you're trying to force your customers into the full LINE, there's no reason for using white text on a light green background. Hard to read, harder still to identify emojis. If anyone reads this, change it to a darker color. (Knocked off one star for your failure to respond the first time) -- Works fine for basic communication--all I need. Only complaint is white text on a light green background is hard to read, and there's no way to change it. Thanks!

This version is definitely much smoother & lag free than the full version, but it comes with limitations. There are few features that aren't supported, like adding a review to movies, opening link to scheduled event, searching words in chat history. At least enable these features so users can keep up with others who use the full version. PS: I tried using the full version but it wasn't compatible with my device (slow performance & going through "optimizing app" screen whenever I reboot my device

Doesn't allow Facebook integration which prevents me from moving devices. My old phone needs repair so I am using both Chromebook and another phone to access LINE. Also, the fact that for both Lite & full version, chat history is not saved to the cloud automatically (and not Google drive!) is kind of irritating. Good thing I don't have any important chats that I need to recover, or I would be concerned. But otherwise it is a good app

I like the design, it's simple and very easy to use. But, I can't save any pictures with Best quality. It's blur, I can't see any important information properly. It's sad honestly. Then, I can't save and open some files such as doc and docx, that have sent into my group chat. I can't forward any messages, too:(

Does what Line does but faster and (I would argue) better. One big problem though is that it doesn't send notifications to let you know you received messages. As a result, I don't get to know I got messages until I run the app. This makes me miss plenty of conversations. I can't wait for this critical bug to be fixed.

Love it, the app is light and working good, but there is one issue, when i am on call(wearing earphones) if you go near the sensor the screen turns off, even when i leave the app and the call is on background the sensors still works and the screen turns off. I hope you fix it with the next update asap.

Newer versions broke the app. It got very slow. Barely usable. Also monetize all you want but don't fix what's not broken. And even for the desktop version, the app wont save your account credentials if you have an internet connection problem. Meaning everytime you face any internet issue you'll need to enter the account credential again and again. So both the windows desktop version as well as this this Android app have become garbage.

Excellent lite app for people that just need to keep in touch with friends and not sucked into the whole ecosystem, at the same time hogging up resources on your phone. Every major app should have a lite version... But alas, too bad it's to be discontinued after this month.

this application is very good, but if you can add the "send to all" feature in broadcast messages. because it is very difficult to send messages to all groups or friends whose numbers are very large. and sometimes the limit in sending messages or copying pasting the message

The application just works. The way it should actually does. Bug-free so far compared to 'Full' Line. One thing which is really bugging me a lot is Line Today for both version. It's comment section is cancerous at it's finest. Awfully unmoderated. Removing that from this Version will be better. There's no need for me to access that. Taking unnecessary space on my phone memory

After switching to a Taiwan phone number regular Line has way too many advertisments including many inappropriate advertisements, so this is much better. However, be sure to backup chats as switching to this will clear all your old messages. This lacks the ability to "pin" or "mark as unread". Please add this feature. Now it says they will take away "note" ability.

The app really is a great alternative for the original. It saves me some space using this one. Since this is only a lite version it is understandable that those important features for me and the others are not here. There are still some issues, but do keep up improving this app as well as the original.

Ugh, it keeps getting worse! The app didn't run properly. No notifications, the messages just started to load only AFTER i open the app! It's the same both in LINE and lite. I contacted the CS numerous times but their replies are just the same unclear instructions. I missed a lot of important messages thanks to this.

It was pretty easy to use and simply what I look for in an app..but the following problems occur which seriously bothers me • THE NOTIFICATIONS NEVER REACH ME I have to check the simultaneously to know if my friends texted me or smth I EVEN MISSED A TEST BECAUSE OF IT • I got the announcement that line lite is shutting down, which makes me really upset because I've always used the lite version and have no intention to download the main Line app, as I have loads of school stuff which need space

this app crashes from time to time on my HTC. LINE full version is even worse. Even more I lost some information after reinstating on the same device after I verify that I am the owner! I understand that you are concerned about the security. To which I appreciate but I honestly think this is NOT done properly. if not for my friends using LINE I would have turned away to other app.

It would be better than instead of adding line today as a feature, that you bring back the pin and notes option. It is much more useful and relevant to the messaging app.

I like the stickers and most of the features. I often wouldn't get notifications (idk if that's fixed though, nobody texts me on Line anymore anyway). My phone reset itself the other day and I tried to sign back in, but it told me to open the app I use and put in a code, but that was in the app I use and it wouldn't let me do anything with it. not very intuitive
