In terms of functionality, it works. I can watch the videos and look at the notes/ flash cards. However, it's glitchy. The progress I've made on my desktop won't sync with the app. Also, sometimes text gets smushed on top of itself. It's not the end of the world, but I feel as though a company that's sole focus is computing, programming, and networking should have a much cleaner app. (I'm running the app on a Samsung S8+ )

This could be so good. It has casting and autoplay built in which makes watching 44 hours of 10 minute videos much easier. Unfortunately it never works. I have to turn cast off after every video then wait minutes before i can cast it again. This makes a 10 minute video about 15 minutes in total. Additionally, the downloaded videos take about 3 minutes to start to play. I cant understand why that wouldn't be instant.

Great app for on the go learning with a whole load of content I would love to explore every last subject but in reality I don't think I could get through it all. Video play back is smooth and the instructor's use clear and to the point instructions for the content which is fantastic. There is a lot of support to help you through the subjects if you are struggling and they keep in touch with you and offer suggestions and to see how your progressing. All in all a great app and great people

EDITED REVIEW: The issues I had with the app were purely user error - I didn't find the video persistence or picture in picture options before I posted my review. That's a hearty self-RTFM to me! The only niggle I have at this point is the difficulty in searching for courses in Android - I think that's not a huge issue, as Android is where I consume content on the go, not necessarily where I go to search for my next course of learning path. Thank you to LA for their responsiveness!

Great content, buggy inconsistent app that is currently playing in the background despite my attempts to close it. Also clicking complete upon a course item only seems to work a few times before it just spins the loading wheel and doesn't complete. I appreciate some people don't do this but I found it necessary to mark areas of study I was already familiar with.

The Linux academy content is awesome. The app works ok and I've only had one issue but it's pretty annoying. When a video finishes, even though I have it set to autoplay it doesn't. When I'm casting the videos don't continue. Of all apps I've used for training this is the only one I've had these issue with.

Good but could use improvement. Recently the auto play will simply repeat the current video. So I resorted to manually going to the next. However doing this I have also had it sometimes mark the next video as complete and leave the last/current incomplete. Liking the content so far and the app is feature rich. Just seems like some bugs need to be ironed out.

This is a fantastic app for learning on the go. I am having issues though initiating saved videos when reception is sketchy while I navigate the subway system. It seems that initiating saved videos require a ping back home. This should be relaxed to say ping back every week or so in case there are any subscription concerns. I am able to start videos by forcing airplane mode as a workaround. Edit: I access videos via the 'Saved Items' screen already. Could it be a CC issue?

Perfect on the go learning. Definitely needs a button to force higher resolution since some of the text is very hard to read on mobile. Also, it could use a better synchronization rate for course progress between mobile and desktop site (sometimes the mobile app lags behind). Overall Linux Academy offers great support for their products and have already helped me in attaining my first cert for AWS. I highly recommend their services!

So far have terrible experience: 1. Screen goes off while watching the vidoes, like my phone thinks nothing is happening. 2. When I mark a video as completed it doesn't set. It only works when I log in from desktop browser. 3. When I start a new course on mobile app the system does not notice it at all, meaning when I reopen the app I have to go back and search for the course again... I think you got good content here but using your apps just feels like pulling teeth. Go watch Udemy how it works

Pretty good. I'd like to be able to click the download button on a course and have it queue all unplayed lessons up to be downloaded when I'm next connected to WiFi (like Spotify, Pocket Casts, etc.). The current way of waiting till you're on WiFi and manually selecting each one is pretty old fashioned.

Linux Academy resolved the issue and erything is running smoothly. thanks LA. ----‐----‐----------------------------------------------------- No matter how many times I reload a new password via web app - the server cannot authenticate the credentials. ironically no issues accessing database on PC, just with the phone app which effectively removes the point of subscribing for me, which is a shame b/c the course content is thorough & would def be useful on the go.

I am unable to download video courses to my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy s7 edge). This is a major issue because I don't want to use my data plan to watch videos away from home. I don't have this problem with other online training academies (O'Reilly, Lynda, or Udemy). That said, I enjoy the content and find it beneficial.

Issues with latest version (seen when casting to TV). 1. Unable to "mark as complete" after clicking tick button. 2. Unable to play specific (lets say last) video in section. It briefly goes thru all other videos in section before finally playing the one you selected (takes atleast 2mins). 3. Unable to disconnect from TV casting even after hitting "Disconnect" button or closing the app. 4. Can we have autoplay feature, instead of having to manually select next video in list?

When it worked it was great, but I absolutely cannot log in anymore. I get stuck in a log in loop and can't access content. I've uninstalled, cleared storage and cache, tried in a different user profile, etc. Completely useless for me at the moment. I'll be happy to update my review if it ever let's me log in again.

Tried to use this app during my 40 minute long subway commute without access to the Internet but a weak cell signal at some stations. At the beginning of the travel, when the train stopped at the station and I've pressed check at the end of the video, this app logged me out. Tried to login but it was not possible without a good connection. When I've got connection again, the app even didn't ask the password! Just pressed at my account and it logged me in. Why was it necessary to prevent myself from using the app when it even did not asked my password again? So probably to use this app I have to intentionally switch network at my phone, to make the app think that there is no connection at all, and enable network access after using the app, this is inconvenient.

Good content but the app needs a a few improvements. The course list doesn't refresh anymore. [Edit: App works well on TV now] Until recently the app used to work reasonably well on Android TV and after the latest update the app has stopped working on android TV. With the chromecast experience still being extremely basic, I have no choice but to only consume the content on smaller screens.

Linux academy is good learning platform, but this app needs a lot improvements. I am using Galaxy Note 9, and below are the problems i am facing. 1)Many a times dashboard doesn't propagate running courses it just says "it looks like youdont have any course in progress".this goes only after restarting the app few times. 2)sometimes saved videos are not being shown. 3)video player for saved video keeps on buffering. 4)hands on lab videos are never being played, keeps on buffering.

Roh. W. Apr 22, 2020

This app has potential. The Chromecast experience could be better. The videos keeps buffering every so many seconds, hence interrupting the flow of learning. It'll help e tremendously while I'm stuck at home in this quarantine period, to have a better experience, learning on a TV screen.

Nei. F. Oct 4, 2020

5 stars for the courses, 0 for the app. the courses and Hands-On labs are great, but the app has always been complete garbage. Videos take forever to start playing or won't play at all without a web connection even if they've been downloaded for offline use. App is clunky to navigate. They finally added the ability to play audio with video minimized or screen locked, which is welcome, but the car driving podcast type experience is still severely lacking

On launch, clicking the Login button immediately launches Chrome (regardless of default browser), which in turn requires agreeing to Chrome's Terms of Service to use. Can't even get past the login screen with anything else (i.e., Firefox). Surprising for a FOSS-admin tutorial site. EDIT: And yes, FF is the default browser. Goes Chrome regardless--even after clearing ALL default apps. Galaxy Tab, nothing exotic.

Rya. R. Mar 12, 2019

Good content, but this app is horrible. Downloaded videos flat out do not play. Loads to 80-90% and freezes. It won't sync my progress with my account either. I'm halfway through a course and everytime I open the app I have to go searching through the full Linux academy library to continue where I left off.

Tho. L. Dec 12, 2020

I love Linux academy. But this app is unusable. Out of attempting to view around 80 videos over multiple days and different internet connections, I have had only one load up. They rest say "there was a problem loading this item" and they won't load. Also, my training paths (from work) don't show up on the app. The non app based webpage content is fine but this app is very poor. How can a technology training platform produce an app this bad? 🤔

Eyl. T. Dec 18, 2019

I can't watch any community edition videos on the mobile app. It seems to be account related because I've tried both WiFi and 4G on two different devices. On my phone (oneplus 7 pro) when I choose a free course, it loads the page without ever finishing and on my ipad pro (2015) the app crashes when I try to pick a course. When I try to send a mail through the app it gives me an error that it failed to send.

great app. expensive, but I'm getting very interesting aws lessons that can easily be cast to my TV for consumption. Edit 4-12-19: i went to take the AWS certified practitioner test and at least 30% were topics and specifics never touched upon by Linux academy's class. Fortunately i guessed correctly enough times to pass, but you shouldn't have to guess when you're getting 100% scores on all of the Linux academy tests.

Lost ability to zoom. With the latest update, i lost the ability to zoom the video in full screen mode. When playing in mobile phones, sometimes the content is too small to read. Having zoom feature is very important.

I cannot use the app. I am constantly asked for a recovery email whenever I connect, and it doesn't accept anything I enter. When I use the web browser interface, I can use it without issue, and can see a recovery email already saved. Not sure why I get stuck at this step every time.
