While I believe its important for companies to charge for apps, when you have free tickets to use once a day, it uses a ticket even if the video is no longer available. I have seen several mistakes in the transcript as well as the kanji that gets displayed on the bottom. Also, a feature to be able to download the transcript or to the original link to the YouTube video, could also be handy. This App definitely has great potential. And are the transcripts written by native Japanese speakers?
Having transcribed content is a huge help, especially when listening to news stories. I have noticed however that sometimes the automatic translations of words are wildly off/misleading. For example, today η·ε₯³ was listed in the vocab as "masculine woman, mannish woman" when it clearly just meant "men and women". As an intermediate student I'm not as likely to be tripped up by these, but this app may not be ideal for beginner students as a result.
seems really great! The free version sounds useable (2 videos a day) and The subtitling is one of the best I've seen. you can choose if you want it translated, and if your really bad at reading you can use the roumanji version to focus on vocabulary and grammar. Each sentence has a Little dictonary for it listed under it and you can choose your level based in JLPT for which words they decided to define. Has a cool quiz function that tests listening but they do it with kanji so that makes it hard
Though, It's better from my expectation in some aspects. There are still some disappointing issue which considerble big issue for languages learner. Such as furikana is wrong and be a result in some speaking session also wrong. Some translation of sentence are not correct. Anyway, using it more make me feel that it is really useful more and more. I revised to 5 stars!! You deserve it!
(Updated to 5 stars! My request was granted!)Great so far, but please change the vocab text color from red, to white. I cannot stand to read it at all(or provide the option to change it myself) Do this, and I'll subscribe, no problem. This is amazing, much like Fluent U, but cheaper.
The concept is great and the videos are very entertaining. However, there are so many mistakes in the subtitles and the vocabulary lists are always lacking words and explanations.
Excellent program. Only setback is the explanatory texts are difficult to the eyes when they are in red against the dark background. Preferably in yellow or light green or any other more contrasting colours.
It is a really nice app for beginners and people that just want to learn about japan. For me, I downloaded it and found the app very useful. I sometimes get annoyed if the ticket runs out, a little annoyed. All and all, it is a good app.
App is best for listening and reading practice it also includes speaking as well it allows you to pronounce the content "hatsuon no renshΕ«" And the developer is also great cause I found a bug in the app that I couldn't open the app I emailed them and within an hour they released an update *so fast* Happy to use Japanese Voice π₯°
This app is amazing. It requires more permissions than Rosetta Stone. Something is not right.

the pay version is well worth the investment. I practice daily with the news section. my listening and vocabulary are improving dramatically.

It seems that when I click on grammars for the videos, it shows an example in thai language even tho I selected english language. Is there some way to change this? I cannot understand the examples for the grammar parts. :(
Amazing learning tool! Only thing that would make it better is an option to slow the videos down to .5 and .75 speed π
I suggest to have an option about speed for reading (high, medium or slow) to help us to repeat after the broadcaster or speaker's.

the last version was better than this as watching videos was for free but you update this app to add a limit for watching and pay for others it is not good to make 2 videos per day available for free ....you update this app for more business not for new tips of learning or more videos ...i am really gonna hate this app and uninstall it
This app is good but still there're some bugs developers should take care of, it shuts down by itself so you have to start over I wish there's an auto play feature, other than that its good keep it up
This app is super awesome. Being able to see the kana and kanji while hearing it spoken in a natural way really does help.

This app is both a scam and a rip off! They use videos from YouTube and make profit off them. These videos are free on Youtube and the captions used are taken from Youtube as well. It seems that they are using Google Translate for English translation. Did you ask permission from the owners of the videos to use in your app for example, JapanesePod101? I doubt the video owners are aware that you profiting off them. Uninstalled app due to unethical practices.
not the best design but I love the idea of the app, that it has quizzes and other activities that kind of force you to pay more attention!!
This is the best tool I've found to learn Japanese going premiun is a no brainer. It has translations definitions quizes Kanji by JLPT lots of content from begginner level stories to advanced videos from YT channels.
I have rated 3 stars with the questions "when video are updated since I waited for 4,5 days" before, but how my comment was deleted? I can simply rate 5 stars if you answer them

Books of Japanese study are so mechanic, these videos are really spoken Japanese. I'm so happy, now I can practice properly.
Overall great app! Purchased premium. I would have liked it even more if there was a download option so that I can use it while offline. Learning while streaming takes tons of data plan especially when skipping to various timestamps.
