It is convenient not to have to queue to get tickets at station. However this app has a serious, potentially very expensive flaw: when I've had to re-log in to the app, it won't let me reuse the same device name, even if it's the same device. Any tickets you've sent to the old device name will now not be accessible. You can call them and they will move the tickets (if you can find the phone number, which isn't easy), but you need time to do this. I just got the tickets moved with seconds to spare otherwise I'd have had to choose between buying new tickets (£100s) or risk a fine if the conductor didn't believe me. Oh, plus the app uses battery even when you are not using it.
The app is basicly complicated and generally rubbish. Firstly my phone can't find it. It's loaded on my phone but its disappeared. And secondly you have to dig deep just to find your seat reservations. It doesn't just plain and simply say veiw your seat reservations. It's say booking and the only way to see your reservation is to click change. But as you don't want to change it that's the last place you would think to look. Who ever designed this app must be on drugs and severely deluded.
Couldn't find 2 of my upcoming trips that I'd booked via the web, so attempted to book via the app instead. Logged in and selected Buy Tickets. It immediately opens my browser and asks me to log in again. Logged in, bought tickets but they're not saved in the app. Tested it over a 3 month period with the same results. Seems to have no useful purpose, so logging out and uninstalling.
unintuitive an confusing technology is supposed to make life simple. LNER makes you download a separate app to use your tickets, and create a login. luckily for LNER there isn't too much competition (for northern routes) so we have little choice but use this backwards software to avoid getting fined. only using because i have to, will delete app after my journey.
Doesn't download your e-tickets into the app when it's supposed to, so when you're on the train you have to show your email confirmation and hope that the train manager accepts it. Some are ok, some give you grief and act like they're doing you a favour for letting you travel with your legitimate ticket. If you ask what they suggest you do, mostly they'll say don't use the app. Well, yeah - so take the damn app down then if it doesn't work. And that's without even mentioning the difficulties of using it for legs of the journey which aren't with LNER. Worse than useless, because it gets you in to trouble. I keep giving it another go because on the rare occasions it works, it's useful.
Rename the app to be LNER as when I search my phone for the app I can never find it. Would be good to "pin" connecting journeys in the app such as flight from Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, London Heathrow and London city airport. Also, status updates for the metro system of the city, eg, tram in Edinburgh, metro in Newcastle and tube in London.
Do not opt for mobile tickets. The app is practically non functioning, what kind of system doesn't let log in, talk less about not letting you use the same device twice. The interface is bare bones to say the least and when problems arise, after forcing you call their telephone line and sit thorough minutes of unwanted advice, the customer support team has no better advice than "have you tried turning it off and on again". Save yourself the trouble, print your tickets at the station and give this dreadful app a miss.
This is the worst app I have ever used when I tried to book tickets, firstly it wouldn't let me enter a return date despite return being selected, then when I could get on the calendar section all I could see was the month and couldn't select a day. Then when it did finally work the field selections go of the top of the screen and you can't see what ticket you're trying to select. App Deleted
I'm not sure what problems there were with this app in the past but they certainly seem to be fixed now. I just downloaded it, synced it to my LNER account and my tickets appeared in the app's wallet within a couple of minutes. The FAQ section is easy to access and explains about ticket activation clearly. I'm genuinely baffled that anyone can struggle to use this app.
Useless. My tickets don't show up in the app. I am travelling soon and don't have a ticket only an email confirmation. I have tried everything to get this app to work and all to no avail. Its hopeless and I've no idea what the train conductor will say when I haven't got a ticket. In the UK that's a criminal offence. Ergo, this app is forcing me to travel without a verified ticket. And that makes me a criminal. Thanks lner for your hopeless app. I will not use this again.
This app used to work well but recently, when I can log in, only used tickets show in my ticket wallet with no sign of future bookings, (even though these do appear in my account if I log in via the website). However, I now regularly get a message saying 'we're having trouble checking those details', so I can't now log in to check my empty ticket wallet anyway. Would strongly recommend people make sure they have access to a back up copy of tickets and don't rely on the app.
Good features and bad features. For instance when you buy a ticket for a train company different than LNER you are not able to use your ticket using your mobile. Similarly, if you buy more than one ticket. In all these cases, one needs to collect the ticket at the station. On a positive side, you cancel your travel provides you buy a new ticket. Unfortunately, this costs £10 for each ticket.
Can just about use it to get the Nectar points but horribe. Looks like loads of services aren't available but you have to scroll through several tickets you can't get to see the one you can. Web and app handover if clunky and nothing persists. I thought the new Chiltern app was awful when it launched a few months ago but LNER is now leading the race to the bottom. Yuk
Could be easier to use. After waiting for a ticket i bought online to appear in my app for 2 hours I finally found a help section that says you have to go into my account settings and transfer it into the app would be great if it told you this when ordering the ticket. Once I had done this looks good thats why 3 stars. NEEDS A NOTE WHEN ORDERING ONLINE ON HOW TO TRANSFER TICKET TO APP.
This isn't a great 'buddy' unless you consider a terrible person a good friend. There's no instructions except for a completely useless website. We mistakenly activated tickets too early and lost them. Would not recommend unless you want to lose money on wasted tickets!
Have had it installed for a minute and already hate it. Full of gimmicks and I suspect it will struggle when internet access is poor (i.e. every time you're on a train... kind of defeats the point doesn't it). You have to 'activate' tickets before you use them, what does that even mean? Can I do that now? I like to back my tickets up on google drive but obviously can't do that when the tickets are stored as part of an app... Why does every rail company need its own individual app? It is so inefficient and pointless. Also, why am I not able to print my tickets, or download them as pdfs which I can have on multiple devices?
Utter junk, this is not an app, it is a shortcut to LNERs website functions. Don't waste your time downloading this! The Trainline app is what you need, stick with that. Trainline is a fully functional app that searches, books and keeps your tickets ready for use.
I am really not happy with LNER and this app. The app does not work properly and once you select a mobile ticket LNER would not change the ticket to a print at home version. I emailed costumer service and they suggested instead I cancel and rebook my ticket incurring a fee for that and not being able to buy the new ticket at the same price as before. I do not think I should have to do all that just because LNER built a not-fit-for-purpose app. DO NOT select the mobile ticket!
Nightmare, nightmare, nightmare. Ticket did not show up in wallet even though the website said it should have been there. Refreshing had no effect. Thought I had lost £55 as web site has no way of printing out a mobile ticket and help line had closed. After a couple of hours of searching and re-installing app, I eventually tried moving the ticket to a different "device" and back again. Huge relief it worked. Only for the brave.
Terrible, terrible app. No option to download e-tickets anywhere. Tickets showing as 'not activated' with no option to download, despite the fact that lner website claims that 'advance purchase tickets will be automatically downloaded'. It's a heavy app that is just a collection of links to the website. Do not select e-ticket as an option!!! and do not download this app.
Avoid this app. Use Trainline instead. App kept showing error messages, digital tickets never appeared in the app, customer support very slow to respond (over 2 weeks), their reply was the same thing that was written on the FAQ pages, and then tell you to go to their FAQ page if their suggestion doesn't work (rather than checking they actually helped you)
useless app. i bought ticket and request it shows on mobile to save time. The correct password was not accepted. i reset password to the same one, still not accepted. by that time i had lost a lot of time. went to station to ask that ticket is printed showing debit card ticket was bought. lost more time. at LNER station they could not help and suggested i call customer service! in the end i had to buy new ticket!!!!
Horrendous! Couldn't get through barriers - either end of journey - tried numerous times but had to stand aside as holding ticket holding travellers. Lner staff informed me system is not fit for purpose yet! Shame the website didn't give any such warning. Never again. Dreadful experience. Buy a ticket if you want a smooth journey.
With all the fanfare on the website about getting the e-tickets, the app wouldn't log me in. Forgot password function does not work either. No problem logging in on the website. The app is useless especially when I have to print/manage the tickets myself. A waste of space.
Seems to be nothing more than a series of bookmarks that send you to LNER website. Not sure the app does anything itself. Can't add ticket info for tickets delivered by email (you know, to keep info on trip handy). I have not tried to buy "mobile tickets", so that may be worth something to someone.
worst travel app I've ever used. had to reset my password four times just to get in my account, then the mobile ticket isn't even appearing in the ticket wallet. I've relented to explaining the situation to the ticket collectors at the station so i can bypass the suffering from using this app.
It did used to work, albeit its ability to download tickets was very patchy (sometimes it took hours). Now however it is completely useless and despite reinstalling it etc it does not download a single ticket.
Misleading app, poor functionality. You can't get etickets unless it's on LNER trains, but the website doesn't say that at all. Additionally the app merely refers you to the website, as in it launches the browser for everything
Ticket wallet is not working so you can buy tickets but not access them. Also it uses your old account from virgin trains i.e remembers your email address as existing account but doesn't tell you this. Thought I would use this app to avoid booking fees bit not worth the inconvenience
This app is absolutely appalling. It just redirects you to the website for everything and is therefore pointless. I downloaded it with the aim of having tickets downloaded to my phone like other train apps, but to no end. I still have to print them off at the station. There's no way to check before purchasing if you are able to actually reserve a seat and therefore cannot amend your travel itinerary. It's not good enough.
