I have given try to this new version of Locus. As Pro ower I have 1 year of Silver for free which is good for testing. Overall this version has slower response, map is drawn slower, menu items react slower. I use Locus for geocachig and this is considerably more complicated than in previous version. To perform actions one needs more clicks than in version 3. For opening cache listing you need to wait for 1-2 seconds while previous was immediate. Good thing is, old version still works in parallel
Excellent app. I use it all the time in off road adventures when out of signal. I use it sometimes online as well. Lately my galaxy watch stopped working with it. Not sure why. Also i cant figure out how to use 3d maps on it. That would make thinkgs a lot easer on some circumstances.
I bought the classic version a number of years ago and it's excellent. Upgrade to v4 and it's a subscription model. That's a deal breaker for me. Continuously paying for the same software year on year is now a popular scam by even the biggest software houses. I'll go back to Ordnance Survey maps. I'm out.
As an ex Viewranger user I was looking for a replacement. After reading online reviews I downloaded Locus. Direction and compass bearings weren't good until l found the motion filter and used the high setting. I have updated my review to 4 stars after following the developers instructions regarding giving the android all time permissions. I didn't find it an easy fix but managed. If this fix could be built into Locus, I would rate 5 stars.👍
Absolutely excellent. A great replacement for Viewranger. Reasonably priced, extremely flexible and feature rich. Many features, but you need to take a lot of time to investigate and learn about them on the forums
Overall the app is great and very functional. However, the ad banner on the top of terrible. It doesn't get in the way too much when using the phone vertically, but when held horizontally the banner takes up lots of space and makes using the app very uncomfortable. I can't afford the premium and the ads are all big problem. Please do something to make the ad less of a problem in horizontal mode.
Top rate map app that I will use for walking. I have bought the annual subscription because it's so reasonably priced but the free version is very fully featured. It does involve a steep learning curve but well worth making the effort. It's packed with configurable options and extremely powerful. I would like to have an easy way to switch between the standard map and satellite view to help me with route planning, like selecting a shady route.
Now that Viewranger has been taken over by OutdoorActive (which is inferior in every way to VR), I have been looking for an alternative with increasing desperation. This is it. Superb, well-thought out interface, very full-featured, and gives a similar capability to modify routes as VR. I just hope these guys don't also sell out to inferior opposition! Only downside for UK users - no OS maps subscription. But I will check out the John Thorn maps.
In my opinion this is the most powerful navigation app I've seen, and I've tried more than most people. It's a little cumbersome to use because it has so many functions, but it's been the most reliable and versitile option I've found for my motorcycle navigation. I've seen a lot of hate for the subscription model, but I'm happy to pay it to continue development of the app. Hopefully the web portal catches up with the app functionality to make it a single solution for planning and navigating.
By far the best (proper) outdoor activity mapping and navigation app post Viewranger. Features ***** OS maps ** (fuzzy by comparison) JohnThornMaps ***** excellent clear vector maps of GB. Would get a 5+ for cross platform use but with Viewranger gone this is in excellent alternative and I highly recommend it. Setup is comprehensive but worth the effort. This is a proper outdoor users app. Request - please improve the clarity of the OS maps...
I am editing my comment, cuz you contacted me to help me and I liked that, the app is nice, but I am having trouble with the search engine.. it is just not finding the places I wnat to go, but I can find them on the map and create a root from there
Been using this apps for 2 years but really dissapointed with recent updates. Locus Map used to be very helpful for us who depends on offline maps to do our work, we can create our own maps and use it to navigate. But now it doest fully support that function anymore, external maps sources forcefully to be relocated really ruined the apps
That godawful banner only removable for a fee you pay monthly, it's killing this app. Didn't have a chance to look deeper, classic app works well enough.
Beware of subscription scam! The banner at the top of the screen was not the Locus App subscription - I ended up entering my credit card number in some dubious content service (Medianess).
Seems to be a good replacement for Viewranger, and not too expensive: €10 annual subscription + £2.40 for 1 OS map sheet (stored locally for offline use). If you don't mind ads the subscription is free.
Super app and goto replacement for Viewranger. If coyld get OS on subscription would be perfect! Great with WearOS for quick guidance check when following a route too.
App crashes at 65% initialization of a file. Can't do nothing. No step back, no cancel. I don't have other experience with this app.
Used the trial period to test it out and cancelled until my highland holidays. I am now ready to subscribe and I expected to pay half price as a Locus 3 pro user which was great but I have been given another 14 day trial and full price for the year. How do I get the offer back or has the deal been withdrawn?
Most accurate maps available. Also, offline maps are an option!
Great map application, I've been using the previous version for years and found it absolutely dependable. I appreciate it works with the phone in flight mode, saving battery and preventing most phone distractions, and the absence of any gamification, social network or any addictive features makes it pleasant to use while enjoying the outdoors. The maps include many official hiking and biking routes as well as campings and groceries. Recent addition of cloud sync is a huge plus. Worth every euro.
