Updated from 1 star to 4 stars. It looks the app or backend has been updated and the issues are gone. I've installed it on 2 more devices and both worked well. 👍 Old review: App always crashes when clicking "luma name". Always shows "wifi enabled ", not "online". Devices 0. Basically it allows you to setup, then it's useless. How could this pass quality control?
When it works it's ok. But frequently it takes forever to do a network check. It's also hard to locate specifoc devices to remove them. I wish I could slecet multiple devices and just remove so that the had to request permission to access my network again. Also, I can't change my password for my network. So if I needed to I'm stuck. I tried to change it, but it keeps reverting back to the previous password.
While the app worked, this was a nice solution. The issue happened over the year-end break that it stopped working because the company Luma was actually sold back in 2018, and there was zero communications that the service backing the devices was being turned off. One day, I was in managing my APs, and the next day, nothing. Took a power hit, and the AP never downloaded its profile, turning it into a wifi tar-pit. I could connect to it, but it would not talk to my router.
App no longer supported. Tried to install Luma on 2 separate phones with an entire home WiFi reboot and establishing new accounts for my device. Spinning ring of light blue turns off after a minute and nothing else happens. No solid blue, no green, nothing. Luma device is unresponsive. Tried contacting support link but there is no one; the platform is no longer supported. Save yourself some time and frustration and find another brand.
I keep getting a "Luma keeps stopping" error and if I try to chat with support it will error out and close out the app, therefore, I can no longer chat with support. And the Device rename feature no longer works. Overall, the app is nearly unusable. Luma, please fix your app ASAP. Your Users highly depend on it.
No improvements in 2 years. The app doesn't recognize the units. It makes me redo the account all the time. I'm ready to get a Google mesh network.
Worked well until lately. Some features aren't working now and there isn't any information provided by first alert. The app itself hasn't updated since the acquisition.
The Nov 2020 app update v1.4.0.12 created several problems.: 1. When Luma is rebooted via the app it loses app connectivity with the green connection text staying gray. Despite this the meshed routers all connect and Internet is also connected. 2. Chat crashes Android phones. 3. Updates to the Luma firmware does not seem to be working. Several routers are stuck on the 2017.02.22-0 update and the latest that I know of is 2018.01.22-0 4. If you try to access the router home page or an Air Point router in the 192.168.55.1-10 range it blocks the setup in info pages A page appears saying it is filtered restricted and to press a button to ask permission to view. When you do so you get a message in the Luma app asking you to accept permission. Even after doing so it gives a HTTP 500 error saying it can't load the requested page. On the bright side the renaming crashing problem in the previous build was fixed. Newel Brands Company and First Alert Company PLEASE keep working on improving this app and the Luma routers. Too much money was spent by a large number of people. To abandon us would just not be right.
App keeps getting worse. Crashes all the time now. I have a feeling that since the company was sold the new owners do not want to support the legacy devices and are incrementally crippling the app to get us end users to abandon the devices due to a poor experience...
Have used Luma for 2 years and the product worked good. But be aware First Alert purchased Luma in 2018 for their mesh technology and shutdown the company without any concern or notice to their customers. No web, Facebook, or support presence or help of any kind so it's time to look for a replacement since these could stop working at any time.
This company doesn't seem to be in business any more. Website doesn't work, help center is shut off. My lumas aren't working and I can't figure out what to do about it since the app redirects to a shut down website
Yes it's English but it's foreign people who answer the phone call and you end up going mad trying make them understand i had my account compromised and people were stealing my money and they were blaming me at first until they realised it was impossible for me to be in 2 places at the same time again avoid telephoning if possible
Use to work great but after the update it won't allow to rename devices and get error "Luma keeps stopping" and need to close.
Bare minimum necessary for a mesh network. Many usability issues. Need to be a network jockey to use. Not for the feint of heart
A lot of functions no longer work. Especially anything to do with contacting customer support.
Internet drops after few hours and there is no way to get it back unless u turn off and on... app does not help at all
I cannot login. It is saying Luma diabled. Please help! Phones won't connect. Just started 3 days ago. Thank you, Roselyn Hubbard
Latest update really disabled this wifi device management. I get the company was sold, but the new owner can surely spare a few decent software devs to work on this? Can't believe they crippled a simple Wi-Fi app...
Good news, customer support is now replying to my emails, bad news they are telling lies without solving firmware issue
Lack of update. How do you let an app go 3 years without an update.
I was one of the original support gurus, and I still use the Luma. It's an excelent device still, and hasn't failed me yet.
Pathetic since 15 days. Unable to create a new network or do anything. The company who bought Luma say that they cannot do anything, instead can only replace. When checked for replacement, they said that the errors are rectified thus no replacement. Its a joke.
Great at first. I used it for about a year. App is too basic and doesn't let you do any real troubleshooting. One of my 3 access points failed within the warranty. Had to send support pictures of it to prove it. Then I had a bug with port forwarding not working. Too annoying. Ripped it out and replaced it. Needed port forwarding and wasn't interested in dealing with support again.
