Magic Display

This does what it claims to do, and I've had no problems despite the lack of documentation. My app says version 1.4.7 (even though the G Play Store says current one is 1.4.6!). The interface could be a lot slicker, but it WORKS! It saves and can recall the last few messages I write, and while the DIY "art" creation is prehistoric, with patience it can be amusing. Yes, the supplied art is corny, but so is the mask! The "flashlight" mode is not overly useful (dim). To be continued...

In general it's ok to use, but I set the speed to max and when I press the 'send' button then turn the mask off and then on again at a later time, the speed has slowed down.. also the self drawing is pretty useless....

Update: Reports are on the web of after installing strange charges are showing up on phone bills, text messages being sent. Warning it wants FULL control of your phone ! It wants access to your phone, camera, contacts, text messaging ! It wants access to your phone's GPS ! Why ? Just to light up some LEDS ? Where is it sending this info to ? If you deny access the app purposely won't work. A programmer has disassembled the app and found it sends info to China. This app needs to be removed !

All in all, the app does what it should. You can change the design, write text, connect it to music, etc. However, there are many features I'd like to see added. A way to save designs to a library for use later would be awesome, as well as maybe uploading/saving designs from the community? Also spotify integration would be great as well!! Amazing start though!

Basic at best. But lacking the most entry level options. 1) You can't save your files for future use. A basic option to save different messages and designs. 2) No control on color choice. Although I sense that's a hardware design with the mask. Basic upgrades would have me purchase additional masks. But at this point I'll just search for or wait for a better mask and app.

Worked at first, Skept crashing after 1 day. It said "Magic display would like to turn on bluetooth" even when bluetooth was on, and it crashed aftera few seconds even if you pressed allow or deny. On a Cromebook so I understand there might be some compatibilty issues, but it worked before. 3 stars, hope they make it more compatible with other devices.

It works but permissions are SHADY. It needs these: Bluetooth (ok, it uses that to do all the fancy LED work) GPS (both coarse and precise, unfortunately a limitation of Bluetooth, you need this) Access to your microphone (why?) Access to your SD card (I'm assuming it can convert simple images into pixels to display, there's a function for this in the app, there's also a visual equalizer for music) Access to your phone contacts (why!?) Better to see if someone will make an alternative app.

App doesn't have full functionality. Why have an option for bold that doesn't work. Supposedly there is a DIY option but it has no functionality. Last update was in May 2020 this app is in desperate need of updates. APP looks like it was thrown together quickly. The mask for which you download this app for is oversized and the display isn't perfectly centered. Mask isn't worth the price and this app doesn't completely functional.

To put it blatantly, all the people calling this app a spam app, haven't ACTUALLY explored or read much on using the mask. All of the permissions it asks for can be explained: It has a mic in the music that puts LED visualizer on the mask. Bluetooth is labeled as "gps" in most things. Contacts are needed for call alert feature. Files to play music cus I don't believe it can use music apps. Now this doesn't mean it's not collecting info but there isn't any proof that it is either.

Does what it says however its lacking a lot. It would be awesome to home MORE animations! Also please stop asking for permissions not needed.

1. Presets work Great. Every time. Wish we had more choices. "COME" (that is dumb) 2. DIY drawings work. Not easy to create anything nice. 3. Custom text WAS working the 1ST time BUT... since then, no matter how many times I have tried to EDIT or DELETE it WON'T work. It only says; "Timeout" I've even uninstalled the app again. Help?

I gave it 1 star because I can't give it 0. This app does not work, I have charged mask for 3 hours and I still cannot get the app to connect.

DIY images are often forgotten, so a custom pixel art image will have to be redrawn regularly to use it. I can still see the files using my phones file explorer, but this app fails to recognise them. Please fix this, it's incredibly annoying having to redraw them when the old ones should be available.

I don't know why everyone is so negative about this app. It works great and had no issues so far, the only minor thing is that is has not much animations and presets, but hopefully more will be added in the future or maybe you can download other people's presets. Love the app and the mask!

It's a great app I just wish I could play my own music using other apps to the visualiser on my phone without having to use the mic. I would give 5 stars but most of my music does not show on the app and I don't like using the mic feature for visuals as I put my phone in my pocket while I skate. If you somehow manage to change it so I can use apps like YouTube music and it visualises that on my matrix then I will change to 5 stars

The pre set displays are not accurate to what is shown on my mask. It kicks back to different load outs randomly. It needs GPS and other permissions that don't make sense. I've been messing with this all day and it doesn't work as it should.

Works great but my daughter is disappointed you can't change the color and there isn't many pictures

Overall experience has been pretty good. I would like to see some new updates to software, maybe notifications on upcoming releases, and new materials, maybe differ color changes for the lighting 😉. Different color hats. Just a few tiny suggestions.

Won't even connect to the hat. Was about to order another one until I finally tried to try the one I first ordered. It was suppose to be for a Xmas charity basket I like to try my products before I pond them off to someone else. But I'm glad I didn't go through with another purchase. Online shopping is the worse. Can't rely on NOTHING!! Sellers should be ashamed of themselves!!

The app is clunky. Limited. If we could make our own animations, and share them with other users... THAT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE. Think of how many different and cool animations could be made. There's like 7 in the app. 4 of them are heart animations. Lol. Open up the creative software to users and make it social media powered so we can share our animations!

Garbage data harvesting app. Don't need 36 megs in a program to send Bluetooth messages to a remote sign. Asks for access to all your contacts, your GPS and SD card. I bought this so I didn't have to develop this myself from scratch but maybe I'll do it just to spite this company and post it to the maker community. Going to format an old phone that isn't connected to the cell service so I can use this.

It needs permission to record audio and phone calls and to change and delete files on the SD card. That sounds so scetchy. Who knows who is behind this and what they might try to do with your data? Why do Shops even work together with an app like that? What the hell!?

great app but only got 4 stars because it wont connect to the galaxy a30 and also needs a save feature so you can save different phrases and or pictures. other than that it is a great well designed app if the erasor button was distanced from the delete button it would be better also as i kept accidentally deleting pictures halfway through drawing them.
