Really easy to use, and has let me nostalgically go back to games I played 20 years ago. In a previous review I pointed out that the new (larger) font and tile sizes on the menu screens made playing certain games more difficult. The developer contacted me the same day to discuss and provided me with a great shortcut, as well as fixing the sizing issue. Now the app is perfect! Great all round experience and thanks to the developer for devoting so much time for others enjoyment!
This is the best dosbox system I've seen yet, on any device. Fast and smooth positive out of the box. Fits screen perfectly. Runs on Amazon Fire tablets flawlessly. Very very cool! One comment I would make: using a usb mouse is problematic because the android mouse cursor is always visible, conflicting with the dos cursor. Also the android cursor stops at the edge of the screen and then the dos application stops registering movement in that direction. Eg Quake's mouse-look then stops.
Why 4 stars? Many options that need to be tested are disabled for the demo (yes, the "donate" version is basically a Pro version and it shouldn't be called donate!). With that in mind, I had no qualms purchasing a "Pro license." Within a few minutes, I was able to get a Good Old Games DOS game up and running. It would have been very useful to not be restricted to one profile so I could copy it and experiment with settings, though. For those interested, I've owned and used DosBox Turbo for years.
This app is great for Point and Click adventure games. Just be sure to choose "relative" mouse mode, and enable right-click in the Gestures menu. The only thing I can't figure out is click and drag. I'd like to support the app by buying the paid version, but I'm unsure of what features are added.
Having used it extensively, and installing every single possible DOS game I have, I can safely say, this app isn't bad. Only issues I picked up was terrible performance in Duke Nukem 3D, Dungeon Keeper 1, Monster Bash and Quake 1. Other than that, mouse capturing isn't present, meaning that FPS games is a total nightmare to play since the mouse cursor isn't forced to stay in the centre of the screen (like in windows), instead is limited to the edges of the screen.
Amazing. I was actually playing Zork on my phone. Paired with gboard floating keyboard option makes it perfect for landscape view. Otherwise the text is too small in portrait mode mode. Their may be a way to enlarge the onscreen text but I havnt figured it out yet. Otherwise great app. I liked it so much bought the pro version so I can start building my DOS game collection. Thanks so much for making this app. I love it!!!
I've used a few dosbox emulators on android and this is one of the best. provides access to the underlying configuration files, but has a very intuitive menu driven overlay. provides customizable button interface which makes a huge difference trying to emulate a pc on a small touchscreen phone. worth the paid upgrade IMO for some of the extra features, but that is more for convenience than necessity.
Allows you to set up complex control schemes that are almost nonexistent in most emulators! The interface is easy enough for beginners but advanced enough for more knowledgeable people. The custom control scheme is the icing on the cake. It makes the games waaaaay more enjoyable.
excellent. was able to simply and reliably use my 20year old application. works great! i did forget to enable speaker when i configured my application and had to start completely from scratch to redo. presumably this was a somewhat intentional limitation of the free version. no complaints here though. hey it was free!
I have tried every other Dos emulator on the app store and all of them have failed to open any .exe. Then I found Magic Dosbox and immediately I fell in love with the app. The user interface is so intiitive and easy to use, you can fully customize your gamepad settings, and you can actually open .exe files with this app! 5 out of 5 stars. You done good.
An easy way to use DosBox on my Chromebook. Had previously been frustrated by Linux, Web Browser and Android Apps. As long as you know which files you need within the directory, it's easy to set up. Now rolling back the years with Championship Manager 97/98, works flawlessly full screen and keyboard.
It... Works. It's quite a bit confusing to insert a game and even get to the DOS part of this DOS port, but you get it down once you do it. The one thing that is stupid is that you can only play one game. One damn game. The only way to play/configure another game is TO BUY THE OTHER VERSION. You can't even import files without paying for it. Why pay for something you have for free on another device? It's a literal scam. Another thing: you can't even sort by alphabetical without paying for it.
Well made and feature rich free version, great for short casual games. However, it occasionally restarted dosbox while in the app leading to loss of game progress which isn't good enough for long turn-based strategy games like Civilization 1.
Had an issue with games going too fast but turns out I just needed to remove frame skipping. Developer reached out to me to help but I'd figured out my problem. App is easily the best Dos emulator and easiest to use. Worth buying premium
so far loving this app, could use some improvement. the virtual keyboard needs function keys. a lot of the dos setup programs need f10 ect. in order to accept changes and not everyone wants to buy a bt keyboard as remedy. Also, you need to improve tutorials. there are many useful tools, just not easy to figure out.
It is incredibly easy to use, as long as you have any experience using MS-DOS. It's easy to set applications up, and it took only minutes to have games running just fine on my phone. My only complaint is that many features are locked away unless you buy the full version. This makes sense, but it made the app much harder for me to use.
It does its job well, but its not living up to its full potential. Now many phones are capable of running some win95 game as well, not just DOS. I've seen the videos of it running win95 games in YouTube, but the process is too lengthy and complicated. The game needs to be configured separately as well. Dosbox Turbo did the same thing with very few steps and games didn't need to be configured. That app hasn't even been updated for 3 yrs.Requesting devs to see if simplified win95 emulation is possibl
App has issues. I accidently set up the drive and main program path incorrectly on a new profile. When I changed it, the path for Main Program would NOT go backwards far enough. Example - It was set to "emulated/0/dos/game/dark/alone.exe". Going back several folders only gets to "dos" and then stops and refuses to go to "0" which is main storage. Deleted the profile, restarted app and made a new profile. In Main Program, the old path was STILL there! Home/Back only resets to "dos". Uninstalled
Came to pay for the full version because I was so unbelievably impressed by this app. If you are not familiar with DOS then it may be somewhat disorientating otherwise It is very intuitive, there is help on just about everything and it is impressively full featured (donation unlocks all features and rightly so) Great job!
awesome app. actually got controls for my bt game pad to work. the only let down is when I hide the virtual key overlay everything stops working. since the controller also works on an overlay it's annoying. i can't get it to map to the voodoo which would solve my issues if I could.
Great emulator. I've gotten the old Dos version of DoomRL, Stars! (a fiddly win3.x game), Simcity 2000 and many others, fully playable on the paid version of this. You can make any overlay you want, and it has some very powerful options. Free is nice, but the paid version is definitely worth it! Cover that screen in touch buttons! Makes anything on dos/win3x/win95 playable :)
It's good app, but lacks some features, like right mouse button click, without going to options and change it.... Most comfortable way to right click, is to add it as second tap, while one finger tap is hold.
Is there a way to connect an Xbox One controller to the emulator. I watched the video on the Facebook page from a few years ago and it says to go to Global Settings but the part is not there anymore. By just connecting my controller I can get my Dpad and the analog stick to work but I'm having trouble mapping the other buttons.
Fantastic. I love the custom transparent touch screen keyboard option. It is more advanced than other dos box versions but it comes with a help manual that explains everything. I use this for #Megazeux .
Hello, so love this as it can bring back the childhood games that I once loved, I started playing a game and needed to download to manual to work out how to do something. Anyway what I need to do in the game is hold down right mouse button and then click left mouse button while right is still pressed. I can't seem to find a way to do this, is it possible?
This is not a fully functional emulator if you are unable to use a dos shell to handle programs. It is ideal for people who want a program to run in dos mode without having to know anything about the OS. I dont need someond to hold my hand while they do everything. Probably might come in handy for people who dont want to learn simple things on their own and just want the app to transform dos commands to a spiffy interface to launch games without having to know how to use a 40 year old OS
This does work for playing DOS games in chromebook, so I will give it that. However, there is a major design flaw with the app. You can't delete the game once you add it. This wouldn't be a huge deal except that the free version only allows one game. To my knoledge the only way to play another game is to delete and reinstall the app.. what a poor design. Note to developer: A minor gripe as well, "Donated" is a poor word choice, especially since you restrict features on the free version.
