Magic ViewFinder presents you a precise framing preview for the real camera/lens combination you will be shooting with, right where you stand with your phone/tablet. The app is a digital director's viewfinder -
- it helps you see the exact field of view for your future shot. Select the camera from the menu and rotate the wheel to select the focal length of the lens.

Magic ViewFinder simulates using tele adapters or anamorphic optics on your camera (see menu). From the menu you can also select the aspect ratio of the frame guide overlaying your image.
Magic ViewFinder also lets you apply some commonly used color presets (also known as LUTs) to the live picture, which brings you even closer to the final shot.
When you have found the right view, you may save it for future reference, with additional data like the focal length, tilt and roll, date and time and camera / lens information.While taking a photo, you may lock exposure and turn on and off the auto focus to better control the captured picture.
At the start there is a constant middle-speed center-based auto focus engaged to keep your images focused. But you can tap the live screen to focus on particular objects. Long-click to return to continuous AF.
If the field of view of your real camera is wider than your in-device camera, Magic ViewFinder adds 'padding' around the image, since the device cannot 'see' what is beyond its scope. It is the best solution that we developed first, and other viewfinder apps copied this feature from Magic ViewFinder.
Please note that position of your Android device corresponds to the 'nodal point' of your real lens, which is somewhere in the middle of the lens. This point is, so to speak, the weighted center of the optics.
Depth-Of-Field tool: If you want to check depth-of-field, press DOF icon and calculate the near and far limits of DOF while changing the aperture and the focus distance.
Ad policy: We specifically turned off full-screen ads so that the users have non-disruptive experience. However, the banner ads help me continue the development of the app. Also by watching a video ad you can turn on Premium Features totally free for 2 hours.
To activate additional settings, to increase the range of supported cameras to Blackmagic, ARRI Alexa, Red, as well to Canon, Nikon and Lumix formats, to use all available optical adapters, frame guides and anamorphic indexes and to turn off advertising, please subscribe to paid Premium Features or purchase advanced Magic Universal ViewFinder app.
Please keep in mind that this app will perform best on the devices oriented for HD or Full HD display. On older and smaller devices this program may perform awkwardly.
Specifically, Calibration is recommended for a precise operation of the app. You can start Calibration process from the menu, the instructions are on the web site.

Love the tool but hate the monthly subscription, I would rather pay a one time perpetual license than paying it monthly. It's not like there's any continuous updates/upgrades benefit to paying monthly. Recommendation: ability to custom frame guides suited for photographer instead just for videographer (ie 4:5, 1:1 etc) and also ability to remove certain unused focal lengths. Nonetheless, still a great tool. Thanks.
I used this App extensively while filming drama in Morocco. I have used another great (but expensive) Director's Viewfinder App in the past till I switched to Android and didn't want to pay over again for it. Roman has a great thing going here. This year I'll be getting all my film school students to use it as part of their course and to learn how to 'see' through lenses until eventually it can be done in one's mind's eye. Love it.
Great app sir! I'll probably purchase the Universal app but wanted to point something out. When I go to the DOP screen the rectangular ads on the bottom block me from closing that window. I have to turn off the app and go back, so I really haven't had the opportunity to check this part of the app out. Is there a work-around? Thanks for your time and for making a useful app on Android!
Fantastic app! This will save me a lot of time, and money to clean the sensor too, because will drastically minimise the number of times I will change lens. Great tool to improve my photography planning session. Thanks very much to the devs for the effort.
Great app but doesn't allow me to view the images I've taking through the app. I've found two solutions though. 1) Reboot phone and the images will appear. 2) Screenshot the app to save/review my image immediately.
Just what I needed as a beginner videographer choosing lenses. A shame other reviewers give one star all because they have not realised what a viewfinder app is intended for (ie. Not for remote viewing). Thanks for saving me the money on the $46ish AUD app alternatives.
Choosing almost any camera crashes the app, not to mention that there are NOT ANY NON SONY DSLR PRESENT !!!, No problem, but WHY upon installing and in video do You even mention Nikon, Canon, and not to mention in the introductory info ... so it is just poorly developed app as it seems.
SUMMARY: it's a Camera Lens Simulator that claims to show different focal lengths to help user determine what size of a lens to us in each situation. I felt like the app name and description originally provided is misleading. This app will NOT sync with your Sony Camera making your phone a viewfinder.
Too good to be true! Not even close to what you will get on the camera. Zoom out and you will get a grayed checker board! Really a joke! Response to developer: Learn to accept negative reviews. Your app is useless and that's a fact, like it or not! When claim that it does something but only partially, this is what you get. As long as for the positive reviews, naives is all one can say. Thankfully you can try before you buy... Count the 1 star reviews and you will get the actual picture.
I can not figure out how to look at the photos I have taken with the app. They do not appear in my photos app and there does not seem to be away to view them in this app. I will rate 5 stars If someone can show me how to view them
This cuts out any miss understanding when it comes to framing up with your director. You can show them just what they are getting before you even swing a lens. I'm digging it

Misguided app name. No way to use it as a viewfinder to your Sony camera Reply to the developer: If that is the case, then call your app Magic Sony Director ViewFinder. No need to try to promote it in a bogus way if that is that good app. You can also start eating veggies, like you have recommended me in a deleted comment, and learn how to treat your users properly or maybe that's just the language barrier... there are good apps for that too. It is very handy, since I use primes only, the app lets me check various focal lengths without changing lenses
Nice idea, but the camera doesn't run easily.. most of the time it's stuck.

On google pixel 3 app crashes by saying, IOException = /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Magic/Sony_VF_custom_luts. ser: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory)

This app does exactly what it promises! It is not meant to work with your camera, if that's what you are looking for this app is not it. If, in the other hand, you would like to know what the picture/video would look like with a different lens this is definitely it. It gives you a preview without having to buy the lens or switch your lens on the body of your camera, saving your battery and time. Being able to preview your shot, can lead to better results and save time and money.
