Magium - Text adventure (CYOA)

The second chapter of the 2nd book is now available. The 2nd book can be accessed at the ending of book 1.
Disclaimer: The game is only available in English.

Magium is a text adventure game similar to old Choose your own adventure books (CYOA), in which you play as an ordinary guy named Barry, who joins a deadly mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world in the hopes of using the prize to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage himself.

As in all interactive novels, your choices will affect the story, and making wrong choices can even lead to your death. Besides the traditional choice making of regular Choose your own adventure games, Magium also has stats that you can upgrade with points that you will receive occasionally, throughout the game. These stats will be checked by the game from time to time, to see if they are high enough to allow you to perform certain actions. For example, if your ancient languages stat is high enough, you can understand what animals and monsters are saying.

The story of Magium starts at the beginning of the tournament, right after you and all the other participants were transported to the continent where the contest was taking place.

As the story progresses, you will meet with other participants, you will make friends and enemies, and you will find out more about the continent you are on, and its inhabitants. You will find out that a person called "The Creator" had established several utopias in this place, six hundred years ago, where animals and humans lived in harmony, and food was created through magic. What you will get to see, however, is the downfall of these utopias, some of them being on the brink of destruction. Your choices will influence what happens in these cities, and you can even choose to save them if you so desire.

The game will be divided into several books, each of them consisting of more than a hundred thousand words.

The first book is now available in its entirety, and it can be played for free, with ads. It is approximately 178k words long, which translates to about 700 book pages. This number also takes into account the story's branching paths. The length of a playthrough on average should be about 90k words, so about 350 book pages.

The second book has not yet been written in its entirety, but the first two chapters are now available, while the others will be uploaded one by one, as they are written. Unlike the first book, the second one will need to be unlocked before it can be played. In order to unlock the second book, you will either need to complete 25 of the 35 available achievements, or pay to remove the ads for the first book.

To me, this is the best interactive story on play store. The story is intereting and well written, the mechanics is great and very well integrated to the story and your choices really have an influence on the story. The achievement system (with the possibility of saving) motivate a lot to look for all of the possible scenario. Thanks a lot for this book, I really enjoy it !

I decided to play again after a long hiatus. Unfortunately, it does not scale properly on my new device with low resolution text, black bars and so on. It would be appreciated if support was added for my current device display and its aspect ratio. Thanks for the awesome text RPG! Hope to continue where I left off if I can transfer my save from previous device.

One of the best stories I've read in a long time. The fact that there are RPG elements gives it a more personal feel. I feel real invested in this book! In fact is one of the small handful of apps I've actually spent real money on, only after my 4th new phone that I put it on just so I can jump books without replaying for achievements to unlock.

I love the books, every single bit of it but i've ran into a problem where if i want to save now or just open the main menu it crashes instantly (in the menu part it is abaout 2-3 seconds). If this gets fixed i'd give it 6 stars if i could. This is my favorite text based adventure ever.

Can't say anything besides incredible story, world building, and character writing. Cool concept with the player's stats being integrated as a way to influence the choices they are able to make. While you do require to get a set amount of achievements to unlock a new book, said achievements allow for a new experience for each run you make. Each achievement have unique ways and requirements to be acquired, which allows for new things to discover! Looking forward to each new chapter.

The first book had me gripped, I really loved it, but after that it seems to slow down. From book 2 onwards, there are lots of very wordy pages with a lot of filler dialogue and very little choices. The choices that do appear don't seem very relevant to the story. I ended up getting bored and I'm about to uninstall it because it now feels more like a bad book than a game. Edit - thanks for the response, I'll keep going and edit my review. Added another star back for the good communication :)

Magium is an excellent interactive novel, with characters and world mechanics that are very well elaborated upon. Updates are fairly rare, which is a bit frustrating when you finish a chapter, but given the quality I don't think it's due to laziness at all. I do wish there was a save system so you could more easily explore different paths without having to redo extensive sections.

This is a very nice read and choices actually matter and lead to different scenarios or events. While it feels like the story is more on the lighthearted side and doesn't take itself too seriously, the characters building is actually more deep and interesting and each character has a unique personality. Also no ads and you can save and load freely. I love it, thank you so much, devs.

This game does not have any downsides. It's the only reason I decided to give text based games a try (don't bother looking as none match this one, "7 days" was a good runner up though). Don't mind the time it takes for the full book 3 to come out as I prefer the *quality* over quantity. It's one of those few games that give you the feeling that your choices actually matter. It's rated high for a reason. Don't have it installed since I got a new phone, will reinstall when it completes. (Updated)

I absolutely love this app! I already love reading and this book is amazing, and it makes it even better when you can change the storyline according to your choices. Although, when I switch over devices, I could transfer what I bought, but it didn't transfer my progress as well, so I have to start completely over.

The best interactive story I have read on play store. On any other apps, you won't find that an event depends on a choice made so early. It is fun to find out the alternate stories too. And it's free with no ads. (The in-app purchases aren't Mandatory to progress). Overall I love this

I've never been interested in books (or this one, what's the difference?) Give it 5 stars, love it. The characters have their own interest, beliefs and personalities, every choice may come in rewarding, risky, or prolly both. The next books require by either payment or completing achievements, i stopped reading at book 3, completing achievements without paying. I haven't touched the app in several months.

A good story with fun characters and interesting dialogue. The start is a bit slow (referring to b1) but it only gets better later. There are many choices that do not impact the story and just to add to flavour and some that change the entire path. A great time overall even if i wait for months for a new chapter

I had started playing it a few years ago once. Stopped playing it a few chapters in. Couldn't remember why, so I gave itanother chance. I enjoyed the story and choices until the opportunity to deliver Eiden's message comes along, without the option to prioritize this mission at all. The next few days, it bothered me, I couldn't help but fear Eiden now, even though I had him as priority 1, but I still enjoyed the story. Then Eiden comes, rightfully angry and all I can do is make excuses...:(

simply the best cyoa i have ever played and guess what? it's completely free! It does require you to unlock some achievement, but it's not much of a hassle and i can just find a guide. Plus i can explore what the possibilities that i have not discover yet, because each choice affects the the future greatly. Also Kate ftw

Very interesting storyline and the previous destions you make in the books it effected the entire storyline and will give you some make options if you pick and surten choices. You can tell that the author have put it a lot of work it this and you can unlock the entire books by getting 25 aviments for free or if you don't want to do that you can buy at a low price compared to other choice base books that not at long or as interesting.

Simply engrossing. Each chapter pulls you in unto its well thought-out lore and characters. Every encounter is memorable without being overbearing and serves as a set up for yet another unforeseen twist. This is truly an experience and a must play/read for DnD players and fans of the fantasy genre alike.

Really wish there was an option to just go back pages and undo any stat changes or choices made when doing so. Having to save and reload when you die, miss a stat check, or want to reread a previous page gets tedious.

The story and the world building keeps you coming back for more. If you are looking for a choice based game that has a good story, interesting characters and an immersive world with romantic choices, this is the game for you

Hol. M. May 23, 2022

It's awesome. Fun, good pacing, skilled world building ,it's got everything. I'm a little afraid I'll have to buy something to continue the story like other games as good as this one do, but when the time comes I will. Great job.

It's by far the best game novel I've played. I like how each decision taken can greatly affection future events and routes. For once I actually feel like I'm in control of shaping the story's outcomes

Very fun interactive fiction. Totally immersive story of a mage competition. Love the rpg elements of selecting stats. These and skill checks add to the fun of the adventure. Characters come alive with the writing and dialog. Thought I'd just try the app and it's been 3 straight hours of fun and not slowing down!

Car. P. Jan 6, 2022

It took me a little bit to get into it at first, but once it grabbed me, I couldn't get enough! I really really appreciate that this isn't one of those text-based RPGs that seems to try to kill you with most choices that you make. And when you do die, you don't have to go crazy far back in the story when you restart.

Bra. G. Dec 24, 2021

I have never in my life waited so estatically for an app update before. The story really pulls you in and majority of the time the characters are very grounded and feel very realistic, as if they were real living beings and not just character tropes. Well written and definitely would recommend.
