Edit: So apparently the pop-up ads were a result of some random app that popped up on my phone while downloading SegaSonic the Hedgehog. This is still a very good app. My only complaint is that there aren't enough options. Playing my game is tough without a wide-screen option. And once again, the apps audio is terrible. I'm not sure if this is because of the rom I downloaded, but I tried different versions and they all sounded bad. Maybe this is something you guys can fix?
This is mostly good. The majority of games work, however I have run into one problem, and it's to do with the game Pubch Out. Punch Out uses 2 screens, however only the top screen is displayed on this. This renders the game completely unplayable. I have not found a fix for this, nor does it occur on PC Mame.
It's MAME, but for your phone. If you've got a 139u1 romset & an (optional) Bluetooth controller it's an arcade in your pocket. No mess, no fuss, no problem. Copy the roms into the ROMS folder, configure your BT controller & you're hot to trot. Some CHD support is available. Atari Firefox runs. However MACH-3 doesn't. All round though it's top flight. Any chance of an updated build for beefier devices?
Great app! Of course it cant play all of the arcade games though as most of them have special buttons and joysticks. An example would be Crazy Climber because that arcade game has 2 joysticks, so of course it couldn't play that game because the on screen controls only have one joystick. So this app is great, strongly suggest that if you love arcade games then you give this a shot!
for a free ad free emulator it works great. love the controller support. sometimes itll randomly open the menu in the middle of playing a game and hit quit or exit and ill lose the game. and half the time the rom will be missing files or play at double speed or the audio is messed up. but if your willing to seaarch for the roms well worth the download.
No bad App still a work in progress for compatibility of Bios as Rom Files leaves lot to desire see it's PC Version in comparison ,also could do with better cataloguing Games and Bios same as Game specific settings (red blood-Metal Slug)cause we don't have numerical F Buttons or Keyboards should be accessible in UI
I am using a Galaxy Tab S3. I dropped the full MAME ROM set on a 128GB microSD. I use both the Steelseries Stratus Duo and XBox One controller via Bluetooth. Well over 90% of games up to the mid-90s run at full speed. Setting up menu/option shorcuts via the physical gamepad buttons make it great to start up MAME, kick back and get lost in my childhood. No other Android arcade emulator comes close, or they're poor, spammy clones.
This emulator works perfectly! The only downside is that the options menu is too complicated and sometimes I find myself looking for a specific setting but I miss it. Other than that This emulator is perfect. Another thing that I think is cool is that it supports multiplayer.
If you want/need a mobile version of MAME 0.139u1, you've come to the right place. If that doesn't mean anything to you, you might need to do additional research. Please understand that different releases of MAME work with specific ROM dumps! Not appreciating this seems to be the main contributing factor behind most negative reviews. It has worked flawlessly for me for several years over several phones. A quality app that performs well and consistently. Recommended over RetroArch.
It seems to be unuseable. every time i try to load a game it keeps saying waiting for peers or asking for an IP address when all I want to do is play a single player game and I have input my own IP address which does not work. I have not had a zip file that does not do this and i have tried about ten so its unlikely the rom file is corrupt. Must be the program. Will be uninstalling this if I cannot resove this issue.
This was a total waste of time. The instructions do not include Chromebook, so I was unable to find the directory mentioned to download ROMs to. I tried creating the directory and downloading a ROM to the directory, but could not get the ROM to load. This app needs simpler instructions for the uninitiated.
So I turned off smooth scaling for landscape mode, and it gave me a sharper image. But when I played a game set to a 3:4 or 7:9 aspect ratio, the pixels seem to look wobbly. What I mean by that is the game will have both stretched and squeezed pixels when smooth scaling is off when I play a game in landscape. So I'm hoping you could add an image interpolation option with prescale effects.
I think this is a cool app my problem though is the controller lay out I think it would be better if mame4droid had an 8 button lay out so add a G and H button to the button configuration that would help in terms of game play for games like marvel vs capcom and street fighter alpha 3 and such justsaying
Playing single player is alright. its stable. but when playing with someone using netplay it disconnects with in a few minutes. Its so annoying. both of the handsets were on the latest pie build of google. wish there was a way to fix this. great emulator by the way! 🙂
This is an awesome app!! You can play all the classic arcade games. The only thing missing is pics of the games. Some of the other emulators (i.e. N64 and PSX) have pics of the games to make it easier to find the game you want. All in all this is still an excellent emulator.
I've been trying to get die hard arcade working in Mame very smoothly for years. Recently I got the OnePlus 7 Pro. Installed Retroarch, which is great. Ran many games that I had trouble with in the past. But when it came to trying to run die hard arcade in one of my favorite beat em ups of all time, some reason it couldn't render the floor. So I go for Mame 4 Droid. BOOM! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALLOWING ME TO PLAY THIS GAME SO MANY YEARS AFTER I INITIALLY TRIED TO EMULATE IT! Well deserving 5*.
Nice almost all of my rom was working properly, weirdly there was some framedrop on my phone when im playing modern rom games. Still display theme for the app need to change since it was looking so old, optimization for newest android core, more setting to improve quality such shader, etc. And to preview thumbnail or box art for each game so it would look more cooler and easy to recognize. Well this app currently the one that can run and support almost mame rom other than another android emulator
after some trouble I finally got 4 USB controllers to work with a controller, I would really like to see a option for 5 to 6 players for Xmen.. I cant be bothered to use retroarch because its just really frustrating so thank you for making this APP and updating it.. please update it for 6 player multi controller use (for nvidia shield)
So far the emulator has been running brilliantly. it appears to be very stable with no crashes as of yet. Great work. Happy to be able to play actual games instead of the ad riddled bore-fests that make up 99% of the titles on here.
This emulator is really useful. I played JoJo on it and it ran smoothly. My only problem with the emulator is with the controls. The joystick is kinda stiff and I can't do much combos. Other than that, this emulator is fantastic.
The well known arcade machine emulator comes to touchscreen country. Placing Rom files is the trickiest part, directory structure is compatible to pc version. Controls are precise enough but the games were meant for arcade screens or home TV(snk neo Geo) and this might lead to frustration in some cases.
I don't know what the differences are between this version and the other one, but I can say this one works awesome. For those wanting to run neo geo games, Google for "neogeo.zip" to download the bios files, otherwise they won't work on MAME.
Very difficult to get controller working. On screen controls still show up after unchecking the "onscreen controls" button. Gives you copywrite warnings and makes you agree on every game. Can't figure out box art. Just go with retroarch mame instead.
Can't use this...your instructions are unnecessarily cryptic. You tell us to put the ROMs in a folder that does not exist...your app tells me the folder is there, file explorers don't show it. And I am using a Pixel 3...it's not some obscure no-name phone with a weird file setup. EDIT - For any others who come across this problem...the folder is in THIS file tree: internal shared storage/Android/data/com.seleuco.mame4droid/files/roms - Annoying AF that I had to dig for this myself. This is not in any of the instructions either on here or in the app.
It's definitely a good emulator but I kinda want it to have a workaround to the new Android updates so that the app can access the SD card. Because it is not really convenient to have a bunch of games this way. Please add the option to play games off the SD card again
The best for free app! Works pretty well, but there's issue with external controllers, when assigning buttons sometimes it will suddenly changed to "auto detection", followed with sudden stop of the game. Constantly need to re-map the controller.
It's amazing to be able to play the Arcade games that I shoved money into as a kid on my phone. The on screen buttons are responsive and fall naturally to the hand. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable lag when playing the games with a bluetooth controller. The one flaw, and it is a personal niggle I admit, is that there is no option to default to landscape mode as with most other emulators. I tend to keep my phone locked to portrait as I use it as an ebook reader as well and my emulators set to landscape.
