Manchester Evening News

Just seems too heavy with interactive adds which consume resources and make the app sluggish and prone to locking up , other news apps do not suffer with the same problems. Getting to the point where I wont use it So it was updated in April 22, so thought I would give it another go , still locks , sluggish no real improvement as far as I can see..

Comments on news reports take a very long time to load, most time's it takes so long I just move on to something else. Constantly having to sign in, very annoying. In short it's a terrible app.... Update, Now I can't even comment on news articles.

App is really really slow to load comments whether on WiFi or 4G. It's been like this for months, even after updates. Also can't comment and the button is greyed out but others can. Stick to the website.

Shocking!! I have installed and deleted it many times. It is so slow and jumps out of news your reading for no apparent reason? I have read other reviews about the app who have experienced the same problem. If the BBC news is premier league then this is Sunday league.

It's ok apart from no longer being able to login to leave comments. Clck on the Login and nothing happens if anyone wants to investigate.

It's an amazing app...Apart from the news, it also contains some amazing articles that are actually insightful. It's all round awesome.

it was great until they added adverts to the videos. Now you have to watch a 20 second advert at the start of a video and then less than 10 seconds in to a video a second advert plays. One would be acceptable two is a joke. I just watched a video which was 20 seconds long. In order to watch it I had to endure 60 seconds of adverts in total.

The app was usable every day to find out what is happening in Manchester. Unfortunately now it freezes when I try to open up an article, so it is rendered useless. Liked it a lot but now in does not work. Sadly had to remove from my device because it doesn't work. Was good and now gone.

This application never works even with the most recent updates. It requires a fundamental rework.

Takes ages to load because of the ads and frequently crashes.

It's really informative. Easy to navigate. And attractive interface. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the updates on some of the pages only happen sporadically and you can be left with news on sport, for example, being the same for days on end. Other than that, highly recommend

Manchester's only local 'paper' is closely linked with Liverpool's and the websites are loaded with clickbait & distractions from news now they 'sell' very few hardcopy papers. I find it extremely irritating & distracting but there is no choice if I want local 'news'. TV soaps & football are the organisation's focus to entertain readers with headlines sometimes quite sensational for what turn out to be boring posts & articles. Content is continuously added & edited with an unashamed Labour bias.

Good for up to date local news... I would rate it higher but it is constantly showing old news also. Sometimes months old. Frustrating as it is not always at the end of the section you are on, meaning it is difficult to be sure you are reading new news...

Great app to get local news quickly. Could do with a little more variety.

Quite informative, I like it, even though it doesn't cover much in my area! That was then, today I have no patience with this any longer, and it's not just this, I might add, but the ads butting in, and having to agree to T&C every time I go on anywhere, really it has put me off. The whole amount on advertising is too much. Then I remembered I wasn't on the app, as I had uninstalled ages ago so I thought I better check it by reinstalling and it's better than ever as I remember. Well done!

The app is awful and the mobile website is just as bad. Difficult to navigate, horrendous pop up banners that sometimes refuse to go no matter how many time you press the 'x'. Pages don't load properly, its very jerky. Feels like they are stuck in 2005.

Very inconsistent. As others have said the app crashes. Usually I'll open the news feed for the day, scroll down past the first headline and then it disconnects. Been happening for 24 hours now. Uninstall/reinstall didn't help. When its working the app is fine otherwise.

This used to work well but since the last update it now takes ages to update on opening and if I try to manually refresh then it just gives up altogether. Sometimes when I tap on a story to read, it takes me to a completely different story. I hardly use the app now.

Poor English. They don't seem to know what a spell or grammar checkers are. It is very obvious they do not read what they have written before posting it online. If you write using predictive text you have to read it through to check if is right. It is a bit of a mithering program program sending messages far too frequently.

Over use of push notifications. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Every story. Spammy, annoying and downright unnecessary. Yes I can turn notifications off. But then they're off for everything. So id miss something important.

This app over time is progressively getting worse, it fails to load stories, then when it eventually does open you read the headline scroll down to continue reading then again, buffering and slow at uploading a full article, until eventually i give up even bothering to wait, becomes frustrating, with today's technology so advanced yet this app is sluggish.

Doesn't hardly refresh the stories, for weeks now it has just shown the same articles with the odd new one now and again. I didn't ask to get any news about football cause I can't stand football but half of the news I'm getting on the app is about football when I didn't select it as something I want to be shown when I first registered. Will give it another week or so & if no changes then I'm deleting the app cause its just showing me stuff iv either been seeing for weeks or I don't want to see!!

Quite good. A constant supply of news for Manchester and beyond. Update bugs seem to be gone, too. The message boards could do with a regular clear out though, the same people seem to have free run of place.

it's a really poor app. If you get a notification and try to open it out very rarely works. I've deleted the app previously because it was so frustrating, decided that they must of fixed the issue, but no.
