Awesome app, but search needs to be a bit smarter. When I type the name of my city in "search by city", tens of the first results are streets that contains the name of the city and in the middle of those there is the actual city. Organic Maps seems to be better, you could learn from them :) But for anything else, this is a great use of osm data and philosophy.

This app has so much raw power and potential, I've actually purchased the paid version on a different account before. Unfortunately it's extremely hard to use as a drop in replacement for driving since it does not have any obvious way to specify a numbered address, it only seems willing to direct me to the street or road itself, and asking it a specific number on that road might not work. Edit: I'm seeing that this may be a problem with open map's data. Other than that and some optimizing, gr8!

The app is good and has a lot of potential, however, it has huge problems with a simple feature as search. It requires a lot efforts to find a place you are looking for, even a city, let alone a street. In contrast, Gmaps finds you whatever you are looking for within seconds, no additional information or tons of irelevant addresses that will you get in OSM, especially if you are new to the area. Please, work on the search feature, it will make app better and more attractive to the new users.

Really good app. I use it often on the motorbike for turn-by-turn navigation. The openstreetmap maps are much more informative then google maps, and osmand is incredibly flexible for you to change the look of the maps and what information is displayed. Also really awesome that you can get very frequent updates, so if you (or someone else) updates Openstreetmap, you can even get the updates live. Spending money on the subscription service is also definitely worth it. The only thing I miss from google maps is the rich and often more up-to-date information on accommodation, things to see, food, etc. But you can't have it all, and I wont be disappointed if the devs don't prioritize it.

My god this app is amazing. One you get use to it and understand all the functions and settings which takes a bit of time. And purchase the pro version not necessary for offline navigation but very important for hiking and others things. This app has everything that one needs for navigation. Better than anything out there paid or free. Highly customisable app. Pro version is also relatively cheap. 2000inr for one year or you can purchase the maps online version which is even cheaper.

Generally good, but why does "speed" tab for routes display "slowness" instead? Speed is, by definition, distance divided by time, not vice versa. I never use the displayed thing anywhere and can't easily relate to particular values. Besides, make just one stop and the graph becomes useless: peaks to maximum and actually meaningful values at the bottom, so that you can hardly distinguish between 4, 5 and 6 km/h when hiking. EDIT: I don't want to filter anything, I want to see speed in km/h.

Cycle routing not quite as polished as cyclestreets, but ability to blacklist particular streets is good. Contour lined plus hillshades mean you can emulate classic European hillwalking maps. Plugin for contributing to open streetmaps works well. Navigation on screen seems to work fine. Audio prompts though are flaky: some days they work, some days they don't, and some times they stop part way through a route without warning. Therefore impossible to rely on OSMand as a serious satnav offering.

The App itself is great. It has whole ton of Feautres, that do make the App appear a little bit convoluted in the Settings, but I'm glad they are there for those who need it. Other then that, it does what it is supposed to do, and it does it quite well. However: This is Open Street Maps. Which has upsides: Community Based, open Source, your Data won't be collected from Vultures as Google. The Downside: House Numbers might be an Issue in Rural Ares. The smaller the Place, the higher your Chances that OSM will know the Street, but no Numbers. If your are around more often in those Rural areas, because eg you are a Delivery Driver, you are propably better off with a non Open Navigation. To be fair tough: The bigger the City, the more likely it is, that the Maps are supar. In my current 100k City I am proud to say, that OSM beats Google without any Issues.

Can't directly download gpx file. Have to share it to an email or something first, thats just silly. Let us direct dl it to the device. The free version is only usable if you are in a very local area and don't travel much since there's no generic map. The 7 limit downloads aren't just for details, without them you just literally have a blank screen. Come on dev at least give a low quality road map as a base layer. I get a paywall for details but without aa base layer it's fairly unusable

Buggy annoyance. For years osmand has defaulted to miles instead of km. I change it... back it goes to miles. Doesn't matter how many times it just defaults back to miles. It's enough for me to start looking for another app. My annual subscription is looking less valuable with these types of bugs.

Customer service is nonexistent. Purchased the full app, but it wouldn't transfer to a new device. Somehow when it did connect on the new device it charged me again for the full app. Contacted customer service four times since then, and I've heard nothing. It's been six months. I don't care what any of the features of this map are, the developers are trash.

Map is open source and has a ton of options, but it doesn't seem to recognize literally any addresses, making it useless for residential driving. Most businesses I've tried to go to also aren't in the map. Seems fine for hiking or interstate driving, but unfortunately not viable for me to replace google maps.

Uel. R. May 19, 2022

Using it for road, mountain and touring cycling and meets my needs perfectly. Took a bit of time setting up but can't see why you would pay for something like a Garmin. Power consumption also seems to be minimal. Tryed out about 10 other apps and OsmAnd definitely came out top. Would recommend it.

The best offline map you can hope to get, but the GPS either has to have no voice prompts or LITERALLY informs you of the new calculated route time every 15 seconds with no way to turn that off. GPS would be absolutely perfect if I could just turn every voice prompt off except where to turn.

Sim. B. May 21, 2022

Totally useless for driving. Can't recognize addresses, only cities and intersections. Search function is actively detrimental to the apps utility. It is good for hiking/ offroading, but nothing more.

Well, seems I could not update my earlier comment. OsmAnd uses OpenStreetMap which for the area I checked is fully up to date. G. is clearly not. I wanted to check in OsmAnd, which showed way out of date. I tried to update NL, but only got part of the parts. So, OsmAnd was clearly out of date, and not manually updating. So, useless! And yes I paid for an other one to not have adds. Getting the adds again. Would you be more reliable? Your map isn't even at least up to date to two months ago!

Cal. S. Mar 17, 2022

Horrible app I just really wanted a Google map alternative with privacy-focused features and no recommendations and other bloat when on my maps. I just wanted a normal map and it doesn't even do that, there's no functionality no ease of use and was really hoping for a lot being open source. Alas these apps are extremely behind and maybe in a few years I can use this as a Google maps alternative, also with so few features and you practically download the maps...why is it so slow?

Ale. Mar 5, 2022

I'd pay for live maps if the search would work properly, but oftentimes it doesn't find anything and the partitioning of street numbers when a street crosses area borders is also stupid. Also: simple spelling mistakes lead to wrong or empty results. very annoying 🙄 no improvements with search in 2022..

Mou. B. A. Mar 31, 2022

Absolutely terrible navigation for cycling. It literally makes you cross a street leaving a cycle path for a narrow sidewalk instead. Even when adding a way point it still goes to a sidewalk. And adding a way point makes no sense, it doesn't work at all. The most un-intuitive app I've ever used. Looks like something from 2008. And still no traffic data!

Dan. Mar 12, 2022

Excellent app for free. Highly considering getting the pro version. Has offline map and doesn't take a lot of space. Includes hiking trails too. Navigation when offline is when it really beats Google maps.

Joe. S. Jan 22, 2022

Great app for navigating offline for day or multi-day hikes on existing trails, but complex menu system and ineffective search makes it less useful for typical road navigation relative to other options like Google Maps or Waze. I use Garmin BaseCamp to create routes using the free OSM Topo maps, then export to .gpx and load to OsmAnd for offline navigation on trails in the Cascades. With 7 free map downloads, they provide plenty of time to experience the features before upgrading to premium to access more detailed topo content.

Ell. E. Jan 30, 2022

Unusable for navigation when compared to Google maps. You cannot even enter addresses in the common method used in US (street #, street name, city, state, zip). Many times there is no address available at all, you'll sometimes only get a list of cross streets along the road you need... you basically need to know where you're going, mark it on osmand then navigate to the mark. Guess app useful if you think in gps cords or can find what u need to mark on a map

Ale. N. Jan 19, 2022

Too big buttons on the map (in other map apps they are smaller), there is no possibility to hide them (including "full screen mode" and navigation). Language voices can't be deleted (they are selfrestoring). Map's update doesn't work now (loading message for hours without result).

Dou. G. Dec 11, 2021

Crazy amount of features, functionality based on crowdsourced OpenStreetMap, great for contributing map info. Mapillary (crowdsourced street-level images) integration very cool, much appreciated. Very impressed by thorough, professional version release notes (which even giant developers don't bother to do anymore).

Gle. Feb 18, 2022

Great app, but would be great if you could increase the smoothness of the map. It's very jittery, like it moves at 3fps. Other map apps are a lot smoother.
