Really an awesome port for mobile. Didn't really have any issue except a few levels that were too dark to see especially due to my phone's amoled screen. It takes some time to get used to the mechanics but once you get a hang of it, it's quite fun. Doesn't feel like a game that came out more than 20 years ago !
There are 2 problems which is preventing me from giving a 5 star rating: 1. I can't connect to the Rockstar Social Club which is preventing me from accessing the cheats. I tried every method possible, but it's not working. 2. The Hard-boiled mode is way too difficult compared to the Fugitive mode. I know the actual difficulty of the game and the reason that you have to keep that to make it more challenging. But it is just too much for the mobile version. It actually matches the difficulty level of PC. Need fix on this ASAP.
The port itself is brilliant. I put off buying for so long as I guessed it would not live up to original ...imo the Xbox and ps2 ports didn't. Graphics are as good quality as you are going to get considering it is not a remasterinb. Has quick save feature as I was hoping and loading times are okay despite not being able to skip all cut scenes. I'm not sure whether you would want to bother with touch controls as I assume they would be a nightmare. There is no rumble for gamepad (PXN) and it doesnt you map the buttons like on pc. Runs really well on Samsung galaxy tab A apart from the sound seems slightly delayed, even more so if I use Bluetooth headset. One of the best features is that you CAN NOW SKIP the DREAM MISSIONS which can get extremely annoying especially if you've already played the game through multiple times.
ADVICE IF IT'S TOO DIFFICULT You need to switch among aim assist modes depending on the situation that you are in. "Hard Lock" is useful against enemies at a distance, but "Soft Lock" seems better for shorter distances. "Free look" is for exploration. Experiment. This is awkward, but it's very challenging otherwise. This version gives the same thrill as the original. I could not play this on the touchscreen. I connected an xbox controller and it works well.
Cool port. Never played the original. The story is good and the cut scenes are artistic. Shooters like this make for poor ports. It's so hard to control your character that you have to save your progress constantly everytime you do something right if you aren't playing on the easiest difficulty. Be prepared to constantly play the same encounters again and again until you get it right.
"IT'S PAYNE! WHACK 'EM!" - Punchinello Mobster (2001) Max Payne is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time. I play nearly every year around Christmastime, and I have never once gotten bored. This port for Android phones is literal perfection. While I could do without the distracting Social Club nonsense, the experience as a whole is PC perfect. The controls take some getting used to, but they're easy to get used to or tweak. "A bit closer to heaven." - Max Payne (2001)
Game is classic and one of the best ever, I will talk only about port. Random sound glitches from minor to heavy. Controls are frustrating: movement is very hard to maintain straight, fire and BT buttons should be available on both hands, stucking fire button quickly leaves you with empty clips, gameplay imply heave usage of quicksave so it should be available on HUD. Not to mention, I could finally play it only recently, as for years it was crushing on different devices. There is room for imprv
Great game but issues with certain missions.. mostly doors not blowing open for example, chapter 3 part 3, still stuck on this. Have had this same problem in a earlier mission but once I reloaded my last save point it worked, but not this time. Other than that, I would rate 5/5. Not sure if theres a way to save to a cloud as well, but would nice if available.
It's good, runs good, but you have a Cheats Menu with no cheats, what's the point of having the cheats menu if the game does not have or does not support cheats, its a pretty wasted menu option, you might aswell remove the option completely or you could update the game to add the cheats into the cheats menu so players that have completed can play with them on and extend their experience. Also tried gta3,vc,sa, the latest versions are not compatible on Android 12, but the original versions are.
This game is great! The controls are easy, especially after customization. I have my "shoot" button right above the left joystick. Has enough control customization to make gameplay very fun on mobile. Graphics and sound are all top-notch. Runs like water on my XA1 Ultra. It's definitely the BEST third-person shooter on Google Play. It's worth the 2.99
I love this game. Ive played it for 5 hours straight and beat it. Ive only gotten stuck about 3 times but i easily searched it up on youtube. Yeah, the controls are kinda wonky but you will get used to it and the price is extremely cheap. The graphics are reasonable. This is a ps2 game so the graphics are clearly gonna stay the same. Anyways, i loved it :)
Just as phenomenal and great in all aspects as it is on PC but I think the only little problem is that you cannot 'crouch' like on the PC version, or maybe it is just me who couldn't figure out how. The same was also the case with GTA Vice City on Android, so maybe the developers had a problem with it at that time, I don't know. If you can solve this for any game (not just this one and Vice City) you released for Android, I might even try my best to rate this with 6 stars (only if I could, huh!)
Amazing game like always and they did a fantastic job with the port. My only gripe is the controls; namely the joystick part. It's a little wonky and hard to aim and shoot at the same time but it's still awesome! Beware the tight rope scenes, as they are a nightmare with the joystick
Man this game has the exact nostalgic feeling I was hoping for. The touch controls are fine after a level or two of getting used to it. Anyone who is complaining about them either are not good at touch games or are too used to consoles lol. I beat it on all the modes it offers, so great. Did have several glitches happen that would not allow me to continue but thanks to lots of saving I loaded up a previous save and went right past the problem areas. GJ. Too bad about the S.C. -motoz2 force
This game was beyond my expectations. Story was so good felt like I was watching a movie, the protagonist was a badass, graphics where amazing for a game made in 2001. In first I had hard time with control, (to aim and shoot) but later I was use to it so control was ok. In end I enjoyed playing it.
It's a nostalgia game , and it runs much better on Android than it does on Win 10. The touchscreen control is .... So so. I don't hated but I don't love it, it's just playable. It has a gamepad option so would recommend using that , just need to remember to have the gamepad paired before you open the game. On a side note, if the devs decide to ever port Max Payne 2 , please try to add gyro support for aiming.
Great storyline and gameplay, but hampered by the atrocious aiming system. It's impossible to aim and shoot at the same time, and autoaim is either too strong or too weak (I've tried all the settings) and sometimes when the enemy is standing behind a cover or at a distance the autoaim only focuses on the lower torso or even feet. This is further affected by the clunkiness of the movement (eg one swipe causes the camera angle to move a certain, fixed degrees.), making aiming at mines difficult.
Not good to control. Can't aim around while shooting because your thumb is occupied. My star rating is only for the controls. I love the Max Payne games, it's just that the controls for this version weren't thought all the way through.
Played the pc version many times, lot of exciting twists and star moments in this game. Love by the way playing on android. Played this game on fugitive mode so many times, the Hard Boiled mode is a litter bit of difficult as enemies are powerful than you and your health affects by the enemy shoots max. But Its more challenging, if the controller support would have been attached like ps3 controller, it would be easy to take down the hard boiled mode.
Edit: YOU DID IT THANK YOU!!!! 64 BIT IS SICK!!!!!!!! one of the best games ever made for mobile, please please please add some updates for immersion mode and allow higher Graphics rendering as times have progressed and phones are more powerful than ever. I tested and played the full game on a Sony Xperia xa2 Ultra on lineage OS 16 which is equivalent to AOSP Android 9 pie, my device is rooted and I showed a perfect 60 frames per second at full detail.
Would be higher but they need an option to skip the platforming parts of the game. The controls were bad enough with the Playstation controllers but this is ridiculous.
This game is not very well optimized for touch screen devices. It nice seeing the game in higher resolution though. Definitely feels like a rush port. It's like they only test played through the whole game with ether a mouse and keyboard or controller. This games kinda hard on Xbox with a controller on normal. In this port on normal it get extremely hard with touch screen controls. How well it's hard as freak to aim at all fast or at longish distances.
If you can get past the extremely bland graphics and dated gameplay and channel your inner nostalgia of the first time you played this game back in its ps2 days there is fun to be had. Newcomers might find it a little harder to get into. Side note* I would personally recommend Oddworld Strangers Wrath (another PS2/Xbox port). A semi open world shooter/platformer with far better graphics and gameplay for someone looking for a good console port experience.
It took a whole lot of getting used to without a mouse and keyboard! That aside, this is the same game we all loved, just a much steeper learning curve. I'm currently attempting hard boiled, and without auto aim it's more difficult than anything I've tried. It's also just as exciting as my first play through and alot more convenient
