it's working okay for me. they seem to have fixed the permission restrictions. I logged in as an APS member . after a few false starts, I could find abstracts, sessions, people. I could add items. there's a bit of a learning curve as with many bespoke apps .
Login does not work. Link to Login using APS credentials opens and inmediately closes the web page without any chance to login. Then giving failure to login errror. No ability to sync then.
The latest update to the app does not have the issue with permissions everyone's mentioning. Great experience so far fetching the events I'd already added to the APS calendar online.
Absolutely horrible app. 80 MB, freezes all the time and slow to start up.
My schedule on the app only includes sessions. It doesn't include the "personal events" that I put on my schedule on the computer.
Requests way too many privileges. Write a lightweight app that navigates the schedule and abstracts.
Refuses to run without handing over permission to make phone calls, access photos etc. A privacy disaster. Avoid this invasive app.
Does not work on my Motorolla Droid Mini
The GUI is inconsistent ("search" functionality is implemented differently on different pages) and not intuitive. Search does not always work - frequently it reports only one results when multiple are shown on the website. The app is ridiculously slow on a modern phone. "Sync calendar" does not seem to work (it only occasionally adds and never successfully removes events).
As mentioned by many others, it requires too many permissions. It requires permission to manage phone calls, manage your calendar, and access your phone files and photos. I can understand why the latter two could be necessary, but they should be only for certain features. For example, if someone wants to link their APS schedule to their Google Calendar, or upload their slides, it would make sense to require that access.
Searching for a presenter's full name doesn't work. One has to instead search for first or last name only. My schedule doesn't show the name of the presenter without clicking on the talk to view the presentation details.
As other people have pointed out, extreme permissions overreach without which the app refuses to function.
App does not function (at least on an Android phone); closes immediately upon being opened.
Search option doesn't function well and cannot be trusted. That is the main purpose of these kinds of apps. But it does have the schedule.... the only positive side of the app.
I refuse to give this app all the intrusive permissions that are MANDATORY to run it.
Requires ability to make/manage phone calls and access media on my phone. Without allowing these permissions, app doesn't function at all.
Even with all the permissions, does not work properly on my Android phone.
App refuses to work if not granting abusive permissions.
why does the app need access to my phone? I can see that access to my calendar could be useful...
Mandatory phone management? Really?
Terrible. This app won't do anything unless you grant it all permissions, and those permissions are intrusive.
The app shows all of the presentations in a clear way and had a schedule organizer so you can easily organize which presentations you want to go see. I thought it was very helpful. I agree there permissions are a little intrusive. Not sure why you need to give it permission to your phone calls.
It should not be necessary to give a scientific conference app these kinds of permissions. Will not be using it.
The app wants to receive and make phone calls on my behalf? And I need to grant it permission to access my photos? No thanks.
This app is absolutely terrible! I click the button for floor plan and it just opens a link in chrome to download a pdf!! Why did i need the app for that?
why do you need permissions to manage my phone calls, my photos etc. ?
Why does it need the permissions it does? It's intrusive and I refuse to use it
Why need access to phone id and calls? Otherwise works
Spontaneously logged me out and won't let me log back in. When I go to the no login option, it does not remember what I had already stored on my phone. Not happy. Since we don't get big paper programs anymore, this is the best way to look up talks period that it's not working is unacceptable.
These insane permissions should not be required. I can see why they may be needed for some additional features, but you don't need to make phone calls, see my media, or access my calendar if I am only using this to look at the scientific program, for example. No thanks, uninstalled.
