Mei: SMS Texting + AI

Mei is a better alternative to your stock SMS texting app. It combines the best features of all messaging apps with AI and more into a single app. It’s completely free, with no ads, no catch. Advanced texting features including; scheduling, disappearing and expiring messages, dual sim, folders, labels, unique personalization (colors and themes), polling and free data messaging (soon compatible with RCS). See why Mei is one of the highest-rated SMS/MMS texting apps in the Play Store!

On top of being a feature-rich texting app, Mei is the first SMS texting app with an optional AI assistant to give you real-time advice to help you text. Imagine Mei as your best friend, there to give you personalized advice when you want it, all in your messaging app.

Texting can be confusing and it’s sometime hard to understand your contacts' personalities and what they really mean. Never understood why Alex never schedules plans in advance, or how to respond to Katie who uses way too many emojis or stickers, or want to know when a friend’s mood seems different? Our AI assistant, Mei (pronounced ‘May’) can help you understand your contacts to text better and smarter. And better communication means better relationships.

Mei’s AI models were originally trained in English, with limited input from other languages. As we get more data in non-English languages (mainly from users and their feedback) our models will start to improve and Mei will become more accurate in those languages. So please correct Mei when she’s wrong and check back later as she’ll improve over time!

Mei is compatible with MightyText, Pushbullet and mySMS for desktop and web access (our own desktop version coming soon). Mei syncs with any Android smartwatch, watch or wearable.

Message window won't scroll and I can't see new text as I type. I enjoyed this app at first. Mei did a good job at nailing personality analyses & the daily mood check-ins were useful. Now, the advanced features are disabled. I'm frustrated by glitches. The text won't scroll correctly, so if I write a text longer than ~4-5 lines, it blocks my ability to see new text I'm writing. I hoped their update would fix this but installing it from their website doesn't work. No fun. Switching apps.

What makes this app unique is now defunct and sad. I was looking forward to this app's potential (which is why I signed up almost as soon as it went early access), and to see it die before reaching that is disheartening. It used to analyze texts to try profile each conversation, which was a good way to change how you text and improve communication. I thought the credit system was weirdly limiting... but I had 240ish before they that and everybody else unique. Now it's just a old buggy text all.

It's a great app. I like the customization, the format, and especially the AI. However, there are some things I would really love to see changed. When you receive more than one message in a row from one person, or in one chat, they'll say "media message" even if the message isn't a photo, and you have to open the app to read the texts rather than just look at your notifications... pretty annoying. Also, when you open the app through a notification it rarely takes you to the correct person.

I like the app. It's a great idea and really like the customization for every contact conversation. My only problem is that I can't tell who sends a message when it's from a group chat. The name of the person who sends the message doesn't show up under their text so I have to go back and forth with my default messaging app to know who texted, but only in a group chat text (a conversation between three or more people at the same time). If that could be fix/added, this will be a solid messaging app 👌. Also, when I get a new message, I don't see the most recent text in my notification bar. It only shows the old texts instead of a new one from the person who texted me.

A great app with a intuitive idea behind it! It has plenty of potential and I can't wait to watch as this app is further polished and developed. Bug: Drafts do not save. Once you exit back to the conversation list and go back to the person you were texting, the draft is lost. Suggestion: I would like more customization. I believe the ability to change the texting background to a photo of your choice would attract more peoples' attention. Overall, keep up the good work!

This app seems very useful, but I do have a problem with it. When I saw that I could set the attachment size in MMS to unlimited, I was excited. Unfortunately, that option is much less useful than I originally assumed. You can only send 1 attachment at a time. A massive problem that I have with my current messaging app through Samsung is the fact that I can only send 2-4 pictures at a time. It's a hassle to send a bunch of pictures at once. I wouldn't mind having to wait longer for the pictures to finish sending, but having to separate them into a ton of different messages is frustrating. If this app had an easy way to send unlimited attachments, that would be amazing. Especially if I could scroll through my gallery and check off which attachments I want to send all at the same time, rather than having to continuously open my gallery and select one picture before having to open my gallery again to select the next picture. Edit: The app was updated and this personal issue of mine was fixed. I use this as my primary text messaging app now.

The app is fairly nice and easy to use. However, it does contain some issues that are likely being worked on. It doesn't really store message drafts, it has an issue handling picture messages, it has issues with creating new messages and contacts, and so on. The AI assistant doesn't seem to be terribly intuitive or useful as of this time either. I believe that the creators have a potentially amazing program once more of the issues are resolved. I wish them the best of luck!

Seems really good and I will most likely be using this as my default messaging app. It just needs to work out s few thing that are pretty much necessities (I know it is in beta) - I need to be able to see who is talking in a group chat. When I am in one, all I see is the messages that are sent, but no picture or name next to them to show who sent the message. - Clickable links. If I send something like a spotify link or a website, it should open when I click on it. What would also be nice is a preview, like other messaging apps where it would open a box with a link preview. - The "mark read" button doesn't work when I see a message come in on my notification center. It also glitches out with group messages, and won't display the messages properly. Otherwise very good. Maybe add a less intense dark theme, and it would be great. can't wait to see how it turns out, the personal assist seems really interesting.

It's a great app, but of course they're going to be bugs for being in beta. Things such as serious battery usage, crashes, a lot of lag, and weird errors. I also can't change the relationship to people. However, the app is great and super interesting and fun to use. It's fun to just mess around with the AI and such and I highly recommend it if you can't deal with Samsung's messaging.

This app has great potential but it isn't there yet. I would have rated 3 stars but for their amazing AI which is actually pretty accurate. The user profiles are rather detailed. Pros: the AI and the interface which is what you would expect from a texting app. Cons: lack of features such as archiving conversations and scheduling texts. Issues: when attempting to modify my user profile as determined by the AI, the Next button only highlights if you make modifications to that screen. But there is no pop up or error message to indicate that, so I had to figure it out myself. We should be able to move to the next section without modifications to the current one if they're not necessary. Another way to improve the UX would be to assign each conversation a different colour in the main menu. Could not find such an option in settings. All in all, not ready to make this my main texting app but I can see myself doing so in the future. The ability to schedule texts would definitely convince me to switch over.

Some things definitely could use some work. I wish there were more ways to use credits or more quizes. Being able to connect social media dms to it would also be awesome. I only have three complaints. I only get vibrating and pop-up notifications occasionally, images(especially sent images) don't always show, and it cuts off messages for some reason. The most common pattern seems to be messages that are a tad longer than usual will cut off at the last comma. For example: "Stop by the store, the one by the bank. We need some more mild and the dog needs food. See if they have any bones, he's been biting the couch." With this, all I would see on my side is ", he's been biting the couch." Opening my original messaging app, I would see the full message and the recipient would also see the full message. I just found this bug so odd and funny. Would also be great if the contact photo was able to be displayed in chats. Super excited to see where this goes, it's such a great and cute idea.

This messaging UI is really awesome. Coming from the basic messaging app from the Galaxy S9+.. I can honestly say I already love it more. One thing I do notice as a bug is: When you click on a message someone has sent to you, it'll say that message has been "sent" and "received".. But when you click on any of the messages you sent back to them, it'll just say "sent". I'm hoping this gets fixed in the patches. I'm also hoping that there's an extension to this app (eventually), that will allow you to change your default "phone" app with one similar to the Mei Messages.

This app has a great idea behind it and is executed well. The design just feels a bit off, but it's beta so that's forgivable. I personally have an issue where I cannot send group SMS through the app. As soon as I send the message the app crashes and the message is never sent. Normal texting works fine, and the AIR assistant is very fun to use. this app could just use some work.

A good concept with some "meh" execution. They try to reward users for providing input to the app with points that allow you to access the AI analysis. Not a gripe just something worth mentioning. What is most concerning about the app is that it needs a significant amount of performance optimization and AI training before it will be usable and useful in my life. In time I think they might get there, but for now I would prefer to stick with a different messaging application.

I love the AI, and all the useful little things it tells me about my relationships. Hi! I'm so glad you guys responded and I'm not sure if you guys will see this, but there are a few bugs I have been experiencing that I've sent feedback for. When I try to manually update people's information in the app, it never saves. For example, if I change the name of a contact, it still shows the old name. Also, it doesn't save the changes of I try to add tags in someone's contact overview, such as age.

I gave this four stars because the AI is pretty cool and guesses traits accurately nearly every time. However, (and I'm running the most recent version of Pie on a Pixel,) about half the time the notification disappears within seconds from the drop-down menu. Also, I expected there to be the option to reply from the menu, but because of those, I'm going back to Messages.

The concept for the app is really fascinating and cool, but the beta still has some work that needs to be done. My friends can only send one picture in an MMS message at a time and there are no zoom functions on those photos. Also, if someone sends a longer SMS message, I'll only get the last section of it. Many of my photos are also flipped when I send them. Definitely wanna see how this app improves, though.

A. G. u. Oct 9, 2018

It's a bit buggy, I understand it's in beta but I feel like it's geared toward apple? There's an issue where if someone sends you multiple images, it will only receive one, it also has issues processing Apple live photos and defaults emojis to Apple's. I'm not 100% sure as to what the AI does, but I like it. I'd love to see it further developed into a functional program! I'd love to see an extension on PC too. I'll definitely keep using it!

A. G. u. Jan 7, 2019

I think this app is pretty good, but the only issues I have experienced are that I can't see a full message that I send if it's somewhat long. It only shows the last few words. And I also am unable to see sent media at what seems to be random times. I'll be able to see the photo for a few seconds, then I'll leave the messages and go back into it only to see that its gone again, then later seeing it at a random time.

A. G. u. Jul 11, 2019

I like the idea a lot. Sending pictures could be better, there's no option to get straight to the gallery, I have to get through my file system. Also, the pictures always send sideways. Not bad though, I can't wait to see it in the future. Update, they have made a lot of improvements. Added new features etc. Still waiting to select pictures from the gallery instead of folders. Also, The mei Assistant stops loading at 80% and says it failed to upload.

A. G. u. Nov 5, 2018

There are some features that need to be in proved upon, but it is still in beta. Most of those seem to revolve around the texting app basis itself and it's ability to send media. Similarly, the app doesn't currently support texting in landscape orientation at all, which can be frustrating at times. There are certainly a lot of interesting ideas behind this project, but in order for any of this to be relevant it will first have to he successful as a texting app. I don't think the questioning was too obtrusive or "creepy". For most contacts it guessed at their age and asked me to confirm, and later guessed at the nature of our relationship. All other questions I've received have been asking me if I shared certain traits with these people the way it seemed according to the assessment

A. G. u. Dec 2, 2018

I like the app overall from what I have seen, but when I attempt to do my own personality, I continually pop up with "error code 99" and no further explanation. The guesses seem to be generally accurate, but that one little error code is a little frustrating. Another feature that I saw in another comment is to have a little bubble as well. I agree that that would be a good idea, allowing us to text while in other apps.

UPDATE: app has been great until recently. All my sent pictures are HORRIBLE quality. - This is surprisingly accurate. I don't text much but it was on point about my family and myself. Really original idea, and pretty great for people who are shy, struggle in social situations, or don't trust easily. I look forward to seeing how far this app goes.

A. G. u. Oct 28, 2018

Good app. Note to the developers, maybe make the sending button disabled if you don't have any text written. As it is you can send a text with just spaces in the body. Also, I'm not sure how to check my texting analysis info that the app is supposed to collect.. One more thing: when composing a brand new message and adding a contact, the font color is white with a white background so it is unreadable. That should probably be changed.
