The most recent version of the app is almost unusable for me. The whole thing was revamped a little while ago, and it went from being pretty good to being a constant frustration. The key thing that got worse is that the app now lets my tablet go to sleep if there is no user activity within 20 seconds or something like that. My whole experience with the app now centres around trying to keep it awake while I’m just trying to read something. If I’m trying to eat breakfast while reading the paper, this is not worth the effort. Prior to the major update, the older version stopped the device from going to sleep, which was perfect. This is a huge bug in the current version, how has it not been fixed?? I’ve now resorted to instead using the app on my iPhone, as this really is unusable.
I have updated the app and now it won't even open. As soon as I try to open the app it shuts down saying 'Unfortunately, the Mercury has stopped'. It's unusable. Wish I could give zero stars.
Last page doesn't render properly - displays as error message "no internet connection" and centre fold is split by advertising insert making it difficult to read. I've reported this to the Mercury several months ago - no action, problem ignored, very disappointing!
When there is an embedded video or external link in a story, you cannot scroll down past it, have to exit completely, try again and scroll down hard to get past the sticking point. If there are multiple links it quickly becomes impossible as it sticks at each point. Has always happened for the last 4 years I have been on the app, on my old galaxy s2 tablet and my newer s9 phone. Not sure whether it is just samsung but I doubt it. Even if so, wouldn't you test on the #1 android devices supplier?
Rubbish app. Second day in a row it won't download . No support options to be found!
Constant notification of same breaking news. Too much irrelevant article links in the text, interrupting reading. Please include those links at the end of the article if you really want people to have a pleasant reading experience, not trying to get them shift to something else. There got to be a better to promote those articles!
Latest update is absolute rubbish and a turn for the worse. Can not read classifieds (remain fuzzy when zoomed in), inserts fit between articles spanning multiple pages, slower. Can not understand why anyone would think this update was an improvement. The online edition read through PC has same issues.
Ugh! So many issues using this paid digital service. No way to print or share a legible clipping from the print edition. No way to view a missed or skipped or back issue of the print edition e.g recipes. Online content is incomplete. Can't control screen rotation when viewing print edition so editorially rotated content (eg historic reprints) are unreadable.
It is beyond me why you'd have a large header image above a headline that is unrelated to the story and links through to a different article. UX at its worst. It's confusing at best and dangerously misleading at worse. Don't write an article about a young offender then put someone else's mug shot in the header image...it's insane.
Continual lockups. The most recent upgrade is definitely a step backwards. I have to continually delete and reload to get a short period of stability. Try again folks.
I had to update ap otherwise I couldn't eve open it. Since then I have to be online to read the paper. Before the update I could read the paper even when offline after initial download. It's slow to load. Much better before update but couldn't open ap till I updated. Not happy.
Recent update has broken authentication and I can't login. It tries to authenticate via browser (Firefox) and produces a GET error. Someone please debug and fix. Otherwise the app is fine.
Aside from the general lack of quality in content, not all articles from the published paper seem to feed through to the app. Videos at the top of articles are often not remotely related to the story below.
Not happy. With all the updates the site keeps dropping out and have to turn device off and restart, only for the same thing to happen again and again
No longer works. Used this app with no problems for almost a year. Now after the latest update it will not let me log in at all.
Too much unnecessary advert. content, makes it slow and data hungry. Not needed or wanted thank you, I pay for the news content not the rubbish.
Could not get any new Mercury's after the 12th Feb So Uninstaller the app and the tried to reinstall without any joy ? I ha e been a subscriber for 18 months without any problems.

Not many sources of local Tassy news. Mercury is okay.
Please be patient, we appreciate your money.... the app needs to login and creates its own error.

I can no longer open the daily crosswords - there's something wrong with the XML files. And when I want to read comments attached to a news story, the app often shuts down. Please fix these bugs.
