Seems to be a bug in the video player function... The player controls get pushed down to overlay the actual tablet/phone navigation controls when going to full screen, which makes it impossible to rewind, pause, forward etc. This I tested in Stock browser and it works fine so it isn't android, just a bug in mercury.. Other than that this is a good app
I cant really use this app as it force closes upon opening. Strangely this starts to happen a day after installing it on two very different devices. I like what I saw so far, but it's unusable like this :-( Despite many reviews observing the same, there hasn't been an update in half a year...
Love the clean design, and it does seem faster and more stable than some others I've used, but a lot of features seem to be there in name only - in particular, I'm genuinely not sure the adblocker does anything at all. This could really be my favorite if they get it fully working, but right now it feels like an afterthought at best.
There are just three more things that this browser lacks.. 1- The video player used should have auto orientation without the user having to turn on the auto rotate function 2- There should be an option to select an custom downloader like ADM 3- The Ad blocker can get a bit more stronger 4- (Optional) Add an option to download more themes
Deserves to be better known + a worthwhile alternative to Dolphin. If sorting a load of bookmarks matters to you is worth knowing that you can put them into folders. Plenty of features + some of them need a bit of playing with to use properly but most of it is easy. A bigger choice of themes/the facility to add them would be nice. True, it's not been updated since 2015, but then it's not been spoilt either.
Pretty good app overall, however it keeps opening up tabs that have already been closed or it will load a site that I visited before another site once I resume the application. Like if I went to reddit then Facebook, visit another app, and go back to Mercury, it will load reddit. Probably a cache issue, but it's a bit annoying.
Original Review: 3/10/16. I used to love everything about this browser. With the latest update, Fickr has become my hated search engine. (I am not 12.) No matter how many times I remove this search engine and put what I desire in--it reappears on my next search. I tried clearing history, etc. I cannot delete it off customization--it is a set option. I cannot change settings, reboot phone and restart the app without Flickr reapperaing. I cannot even change my homepage in settings permanently.
This browser is good but for one thing. It should be able to cache at least one or two previous webpages (preferably a temporary disk cache) so that when you want to go back one page, it doesn't start reloading the page from the net again. That's a minus, please see to that
I've been using mercury many years on iOS and currently on my freshly owned Android device and I think that it's one of the fastest browsers with almost every feature you're gonna need. I rate it 4 starts because it's only lacking one crucial feature: password manager. I hope that it will be implemented soon!
Ad blocker doesn't work on most sites...with the exception of Yahoo. Im not sure what ads it's blocking on Yahoo because the mobile site has them hard coded or integrated on the page. The auto brightness feature is way too dim and there is no way to adjust it. The reader mode does not function. I get an error message saying it could not parse the page. I went to the help page and found a lot of help for IOS but nothing Android specific.
So fully loaded with awesome functionalities (especially the File Manager module and the plugins), Chrome or *insert any android browser* don't even come close! It also allows proper downloading from Dropbox (Chrome fails to download files from Dropbox). And too many awesome features to list here. 5+ stars for sure!
Update 04/01/2016. After I have changed the sd card, the browser simply stopped working. I reinstalled it but to no avail. It just does not work anymore. Sad. 1. Open tabs are not kept on close sometimes. 2. Background color MUST be white because some websites do not specify it; black background makes those websites unreadable. 3. mailto: links are parsed incorrectly. When you click one, you should open a mail client chooser instead of app choser.
In general a very happy with the browser but there is one thing I hope dev will add in the next version. In Chrome , when I choose a word Google will automatically search it at the bottom. It may seem a tiny thing to be concerned but it does offer lots of convenience.
Worked great till yesterday when it crashed and now I can't get it to start anymore. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still errors out and closes down upon trying to launch it. Guess I can kiss my bookmarks goodbye, at least dolphin still works.
Would really like to see option to open links in new tabs. Bouncing back and forth from a page with multiple links is annoying and defeats one of the benefits of a tabbed interface. Holding a finger on a link to get the options is time consuming and almost always requires more than one attempt. Will gladly give this 5 stars if implemented.
I love all that this browser can do. But perhaps it does too much. When it functions, it does so fairly well. But I get regular freezes, which require restarts, or crashes. I give it a 3 for now and will upgrade as I see the performance stabilizing. A very impressive browser; potential for being my absolute favorite when it proves stable.
Some of the simplest things don't work and are very buggy. Private mode and adblock do absolutely nothing and it's extremely frustrating. Samsung's basic internet app has less problems than this. I was a HUGE fan of Mercury years ago when I had an iOS device. I'm running stock Android now and these basic functions don't work. "What's new 'MINOR BUGS fixes" Doesn't deliver basic browser app functions nor do they check spelling.
This is by far the most impressive and efficient browser i have ever used on my Android device. But lacks some very important features that's why i am giving it 4 stars only. I want to suggest you some features that would improve your browser and eventually i will make it as my default browser :)
By far, the best android browser to exists today. I thought dolphin was nice, until I tried this one. I'm not sure how this Play store rating works, because is definitely misleading. This browser gets currently 4.2, while way worst browsers score higher. Get this and you can delete the rest of the. Hands down!
Gestures and customizable menu are great features. Works alright, but the gestures do not work reliably all the time, and it'd be nice to customize the bottom toolbar. App hasn't been updated since aug 2015, so it's probably abandoned.
Mercury is otherwise very good browser (4-5 stars) except synching huge number of bookmarks from desktop Chrome totally destroyed Mercury's performance. Even after disabling synching it was still really slow so I assume synching itself is not the problem but just the huge number of bookmarks. After synching bookmarks browsing in bookmark hierarchy is fluent but opening bookmark to browser last around 10 seconds and surprisingly also opening Mercury in general lasts now 10 seconds. As a comparison Chrome for Android works without any problems with same bookmarks. I have been looking replacement for Chrome since Google screwed its usability but once again have to switch back to Chrome. Hopefully devs improve bookmark management in Mercury so that I can switch back some day.
I have a first generation Nexus 7 with Android 5.1.1 installed. There are a lot of issues with this set-up, particularly when it comes to a mobile browser. The others I've used (Chrome, Firefox, UC, Dolphin) either freeze frequently or use too many resources. Mercury has been dependable when it comes to rendering even those "intensive" Web sites and actually does so relatively quickly. The only downside is the fact that it takes a long time to open initially - - at least on my set up.
Still getting many ads, especially when you want to watch something online, 'cause when you click play you have to close ads several times. Every time you have to click play 3-4 times and to close ads in order to watch a video. It's even more annoying when you watch some episodes. Like is there any normal browser with a stronger adblock, i tried many of them. Don't get me wrong, i'm not just trying to criticize this browser, i'm speaking in general for every browser out there. It's kinda pathetic that we live in 21st century, android devices are getting better and better, and humans can't make a decent adblock? It's so ironic and hilarious.
Mercury is indeed a very intuitive browser. But still it's having some bugs. It's adblock is also not working as great since i can still see some advertisements. Also, you can get in app ads anytime. This makes me lose hope sometimes. Please take care of these things and eradicate all the silly issues so it finally becomes great.
Best browser I have ever used for awhile. But after latest Marshmallow OS update it just keeps on crashing. It might be due to some code incompatibility since app was last updated August last year. Hope to get a new update on this app, so I could reinstall it on my phone again.
The search engines enforced use of flickr in all cases, renders the search function useless. Feedback connects to a rating function, wich only accepts 5 star ratings. In app "help" link connects to pc/mac database, and requires use of "enter" key. It has to be sad: Ignorance is not a virtue! The developer team announces it's ineptitude to the user, in unmistakable terms...
It was fast browsing even my phone is 3g slow speed, also this app working perfect on government(.gov) websites. I like you improve the ads block because it still can read my personal online information.
I needed flash support and this was the first browser I can across with that support. Well, it's not extremely hard to find the flash option but it's not easy either. When you enable it, it tells you that flash won't work because of updates to Android 4.4. Also has you download the old Android Adobe plug-in so you'll only have Adobe Flash 11. Browser didn't seem bad but I give it a bottom score because the description is misleading.
