I'm only giving the Met's app 3 out of 5 stars because of the lack of dark mode option. In addition to that, since the last update, the subtitles have gotten smaller, making it difficult to read on my Pixelbook. Nevertheless, I love the Met, the amazing selection of content, & above all else, the incredible artists from past to present! To the Dev's, get rid of the pink borders, put in dark mode as an option, & please, do something about those subtitles! Looking forward to the 2021/22 season!!!

The selection of operas is great (although I wish the audio quality was better on modern HD recorded operas). But the app is pretty bad. Every time I open it, it requires me to login (other apps know how to store credentials for a period of time). There is no way to send the app to background in order to keep listening to music while doing other things on my Android phone or tablet . The app stops playing, as soon as I send it to background. And the screen has to stay on for the same reason, which drains the battery.

I love the app. Great way to get your fix at home. I would love if it worked on Android TV; I have to hook up an Android tablet to the TV in order to enjoy it on the biggest screen with good sound. Edit: my tablet is Android 7 and Phone is 6. I read it doesn't work on recent version of the OS. Maybe that's why it doesn't launch on my Android TV after side-loading it (SHIELD). Latest update was over 2 years ago. I hope they could do something about it.

Everything works really well and there are so many records of opera that are so good. What would be amazing since you are paying a premium is if you can change after what period it logs you out in the settings. Also, downloading may be good as you are paying a lot of money every month for the service. The downloading should be encoded such that it can only be read by the app similar to how Spotify does it. It makes it more portable too and a worthwhile purchase + a great selling point.

This app does not seem to have Chromecast support, i.e., it's not Chromecast-enabled to allow for streaming to a television (hooked up to a sound system) without loss of video or audio quality. Who wants to watch an opera on a phone? The Berliner Philharmoniker figured out how to provide this feature for its Digital Concert Hall years ago. I hope the Met adds this very soon. If I'm wrong about this, I apologize.

Straight up doesn't work on the newest Chromecast. Connects, hiccups a bit like it's going to start streaming, and then does nothing. You can't even disconnect from the non-stream in the app - it just displays "no media selected". Staggering that they charge fifteen bucks a month for this service and then let their Android app get over two years out of date.

The App has been updated as of March 1, 2021, so I can now cast directly from my Android phone to either a Sony with Chromecast built in or to a Google TV device plugged into another set. I can also cast from the Met's website directly from my windows 10 laptop using the Chrome Browser, though I prefer using a good set of headphones and watching on the laptop (HD display). The Met's content is among the best in the world, and now the app works as promised.

Have been using this app for some time but it gets temperamental every few days. It's either saying your not logged in (which I am) or that "Unfortunately Met Opera On Demand has stopped"... no explanation and no support. I can cast to my Sony TV via my Android phone or via my Chromecast device, but as I say it is not 100% reliable at best. As of this posting I cant get it to run at all for the past two days. Question: Does the Coronavirus effect Met Opera on Demand? The App appears to be sick. Not worth the $15.99 monthly. They don't seem to have a problem taking payments from my credit card but they do have a problem delivering the service I'm paying for. I'll try one more time then cancel my subscription. It's a shame because the content is exceptional and I enjoy watching the operas in HD over and over again... Time to get on top of your IT people and make them do their job. They are losing customers for you.

Despite what others say I have no problem casting this to my screen through Chromecast and the app works well generally on my Pixel 5. I have an issue on some videos where the playback pauses momentarily every minute or so. It's really irritating but hard to reproduce consistently. I have a fast stable connection (70Mbps) so it's not that...

I just can't get the app OR the website to play through my Chromecast. The app doesn't work at all; the website works, but no closed captions. I'm so bummed because the Amazon Fire app my brother has works great, but this doesn't work for me at all. I would very happily pay the $14.99 subscription if I could get it to work.

Works very well (and the music is fabulous) but I have one request: it would be great if the music could keep playing when I switched to a different app or locked the phone. In other words, I want to use it like all my other music players: lock the screen, put the phone in my pocket, walk or drive around listening to great opera. PS: I notice a few reviewers worried about casting their screen to their tv. While this does work, I find it much better to use the Met's Roku app for that.

I am a long-time MET subscriber (season tickets) & have subscribed to MET Opera on Demand for > 3years using Roku. App fine THERE. I recently switch to Android TV (Tivo Stream 4k) for functionality not available on Roku. Unfortunately, Android version does not work. Understand that new version is due Feb 21. Hopefully it fixes Android TV and works more universally. Otherwise, it may force me to cancel subscription for MET Opera on Demand. Please don't make me do that.

This is such a great service, specially for us who can't go to the MET in person. It has a lot of operas and from one single opera there are sometimes more than one version so that we can pick the one we like the most. There are from old performances to the newest ones. Thanks for this beautiful app!

Update: After I got this to work, the operas are pretty great. Have to update to five stars, despite the technical flaws. Old review: Don't bother with this junk. The app doesnt even recognize my username and password, so I have to enter a browser (on my phone...) to log in using the same password. There isn't even a change password option in the app-- it just tells you "are you connected to the internet?" I regret my yearly subscription since I never use this now.

You all really need to update your app to work with the latest models of phones. Works fine on my tablet but not on my phone. This is frustrating to pay so much for an app that isn't available to me because my phone is too new. (Samsung Note 10 plus).

Dav. J. Sep 7, 2019

It would be fantastic if the app could be controlled by the headset, even when the screen is turned off. Just like other audio streaming apps, that allows playback controlling in background.

D. S. Mar 28, 2021

Fabulous, in that some opera is available free, but perpetually maddening that despite maybe a dozen "free preview" icons, only the first listed video and audio is ever actually available. Buggy, but worth it for the great work made massively available.

Bre. M. Dec 12, 2020

Hasn't been updated for over two years and not compatible with Google TV. or Chromecast. Pretty poor considering their current promotion of nightly video streams and the on demand service. Not paying a subscription until this is fixed.

Max. M. Jan 28, 2021

Love this app, but can't seem to stream it on my sony smart tv with chromecast. Is it only available on roku? When I go to the app store it doesn't turn up in searches, and the tv is not on the list of devices on my phone when casting. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Ber. P. Jan 26, 2021

The app doesn't work to cast. Met staff says Android casting is not supported to a smart tv. Seems very misleading. You can mirror your phone's display however it is very choppy. YouTube casting works so I don't understand why this doesn't

Ted. Z. Mar 17, 2020

I cannot vouch this is Opera >on Demand<. Mar 16, 2020 I installed the app on my Chromebook. However, 'unprecedented demand' or something is preventing me from watching Carmen tonight. Earlier the Met's email broadcast about free opera reruns was very enticing and sizzling email. When it all works as advertised, I shall review again.

Kyl. L. Mar 17, 2020

It's fine. Works okay, but it's an old app, and doesn't support casting to TVs or Chromecast. It's pretty clear that they've abandoned the app at this point.

Bil. A. Mar 17, 2020

If anyone figures out how to stream DIRECTLY thru Chromecast device on the television (instead of casting/mirroring from your cellphone, with lag time and krummy image and audio) please post directions. We're using current app, downloaded today, March 16, 2020. Many thanks...bb

Dav. L. Mar 17, 2020

It's a pretty old app, in terms of design. Also, the lack of chromecast functionality really takes away from the usability.

Rob. G. Mar 23, 2019

I've had no issues using Samsung galaxy 8+ with audio playback except for indication of what is playing gets stuck as music progresses. Don't know what is playing accordingly.

Org. W. Jul 11, 2020

Please update this app so it works well on current Android devices. It does not let me log in 😡. I cannot install it on Android TV either. The only way to enjoy the content is to cast from desktop browser to Android TV / Chromecast.

Col. C. May 20, 2020

This app will not let me on. I have put in my password, the password the Met site gave to me FIVE times. As soon as I type in the last letter, the whole sign in window disappears. This has happened 5 times today, and I cannot even lodge a complaint because I am not "signed in." THEY WILL NOT LET ME SIGN IN!!!
