MetLife My Journey

The My Journey app is only available to MetLife Auto & Home customers in select states who enrolled in the program and provided their mobile phone number.
What is My Journey? My Journey is a usage based insurance program that records your driving behavior through an app and displays a score that can help improve your driving safety. The app uses information such as total mileage, high speed, and hard braking to calculate an overall driving score.
Also included in the app is a driver distraction score, where you can see how cell phone usage in the car can potentially affect your driving safety. The driver distraction score is not used in your overall score calculation.
As long as you have your mobile phone in the vehicle with you, the app will run automatically and all you need to do is drive. There is no need to start or stop the app.
Contact your local MetLife Auto & Home directly or through one our local agents.
Disclaimer: continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

It's alright, but it's got some really annoying issues. Such as using your phone for navigation (setting up google maps and then not even touching the phone until you've reached your destination and parked) being counted as distracted driving. So far distracted driving isn't counted into the driving rating (as far as I know) but if it were that would really suck because my work requires me to regularly drive to unfamiliar places (which means using google maps). There should be a way to make it so navigation doesn't count as using your phone/distracted driving unless you're actually engaging with the phone. There should also be a way to set it up in the case that a passenger is using your phone while you're driving because that's another frequent occurance for me (usually I end up just turning off my location and not tracking those trips because it's annoying for it to count a passenger using my phone as me using it). It's not all bad though. It is helpful to know what aspects of driving I can improve on, and the insurance discount is a good incentive. Honestly if it weren't for the insurance discount I wouldn't even bother with it.

Great in theory, but significant battery drain and doesn't seem to be in tune with around town driving. Dings me for not taking highways, but then dings me when I accelerate on a highway or brake "harshly" on a highway with traffic lights. Looking at the core scores there's no way I can cumulatively do any better than where I'm at and I was eager to see where I'm at and how I could improve. Disappointing app and not worth the small discount.

App had good intentions in trying to better your driving habits but it's not ready for primetime. Developers need more attention to demographics. This app runs more of risk to cause you an accident because you contemplate your better judgement in order to avoid your score being dinged by the app rather than focusing on the actual real time events that are occurring on the road that require quick and decisive action. That's called defense driving and not harsh braking or acceleration as depicted by the app. Remember, some locations such as the tri-state area, the traffic flow is more aggressive and the app is biased towards that. Too many false positives from the app which drops your score. In my opinion, no concrete manner to quantify and determine the cause of an incident measured by the application without a camera present to confirm the assumed event actually occurred. Coming from a customer with a decent score in case you were thinking it was low.

This app is not accurate. The concept is great... execution not so much. It says I'm braking hard, using harsh acceleration and that I'm a distracted driver when I'm not doing any of those things. This app needs to be revamped. My kid can't even use my phone while I'm driving because it's considered distracted driving & I'm not the one on the phone. 🤔🙄🙄 There are more issues with this app, but I shall now digress.

This app is terrible! It is so inaccurate. I watched my speed like a hawk the entire drive, annoying most of the drivers behind me. Personally I would consider that to be just as distracting as using a phone while driving. I checked my drive and it dinged me 8 points for driving at high speeds.

So when I am in some one elses car i turn off my location so it dont mess with my score and I have to uninstall and re install every time. It deffinatly makes you more aware and conscious of your driving. At first its hard getting used to. And it also sucks that it when I pull over to take a phone call or to make a call I usually pull into a parking lot and it says distracted driving even when I go out of my way to make sure my car is stopped and in park.

The application is nice, EXCEPT how sensitive it is to acceleration and deceleration. I drive very slow and it rates my "smoothness" as frequent for events. One of my trips had 37 events, and I was driving more slow and cautious than normal due to this issue. You can't view the events. It rates my overall as fair because of the one area. Not sure if it's my phones accelerometer being too sensitive.

Doesn't even let me begin anything! When I open the app and click 'Get Started', it asks for my phone number so it can send me a code. I enter the code that comes to my phone and they say the code isn't valid. I've tried more than once. All different codes, of course, that they send...and still says code not valid. How?? Anyhoo, I hope this issue can be resolved.

The functionality of the app is fine, however, it makes my phone restart. This is the most recent app I've downloded and since then it restarts at least 3-4 times a day. Aslo, there's not an easy way to let the app know when you're not the driver. I'm getting dinged for my friends driving.

A. G. u. Nov 26, 2019

Drains your battery and claims excessive acceleration when getting on highway. Plus, it recommends using the highway as a better road when there is less traffic on other roads. Less traffic should mean less accidents, but not by this app. Not impressed at all with app. Not worth the aggregation.

This app drains your battery. It suggests freeways because they are safer based on the speed I am going not factoring in that it is rush hour and my 35-50 is freeway speed during that time. When I am a passenger and playing on my phone it drops my score because I am driving distracted. My GPS drops my score because I am driving distracted. It's a great idea but very poorly executed.

Mik. F. May 1, 2021

Read the reviews. All bad. Except Two. I won't do it. You can get 25% discount, But nobody does. When you gradually accel or slow down it still says your not doing it slow enough. And I use Google maps to get around and people have said if you do that it's distracted driving.

I haven't even had this app for an entire day and it is draining my battery and requires wifi when I would prefer not to have it on all day. there needs to be a better system such as turning the app on when you get in your car to drive. not draining your battery all day and having an app guess when you are actually driving

Not Accurate In Tracking and Horrible customer service! There truly isn't anything one can do about this as a client of MetLife other than complain about how bad this app truly is. The response time from the support section is over 30 days. The app tracks inaccurately your acceleration and harsh stops. If you work at night, as I do, you are dinged for this. The roads you travel, even though they can be extremely safe, some how the app has it programmed to detect on it's own which routes...

A. G. u. Sep 24, 2019

Just wish it gave the option to say if you are the driver or the passenger. Got rated for being the passenger. I shouldn't loose points because whomever was driving did a hard accelerate, or that I was texting with a passenger in another car while being a passenger myself. Using my phone as a passenger shouldn't matter. Most likely it's why I chose to be a passenger.

A. G. u. Feb 4, 2020

It keeps saying that I am aggressively accelerating, how else do you merge onto the highway. It also doesn't identify where I live correctly. The town it names is over 5 miles away on the other side of the Mississippi river. It dings my score for not driving on major highways, I live in the country I have to drive on county and township roads, it doesn't mean I'm more likely to have an accident.

Mag. K. Sep 30, 2020

Downloaded the app in early July. For over 2 months it kept saying come back after more trips. A few weeks ago I removed it and re-added the app. It looked a little different so I was hopeful. But now it just keeps saying loading on the dashboard and my driving section. Does this app work for Illinois residents?

Jon. M. Dec 11, 2020

Terrible. It just stopped working. My notifications always say it's running, and it drains my battery. Removed it and downloaded twice. Still the same thing. Please fix it.

A. G. u. May 15, 2019

i like the app it definatley makes you more aware of your driving. my biggest complaints are that i would get harsh accel dings when using cruise control going up a hill and i would get dinged for things when i was a passenger in someone elses vehicle. so i was constantly having to go in and change it to passenger.

Dam. P. Mar 21, 2021

I really like this app but it doesn't keep a record of every time I drive. If it does record my drive it does not record the whole duration. It also says I'm driving distracted (while using my phone) even if I was the passenger.

Ada. B. Aug 8, 2020

The app thinks I am speeding even though I set my cruise at 54 mph. It docks my points because of the roads I have to take to get to work because I don't take the interstate... because my work is in the country and not by the interstate. And my work schedule apparently isn't to their liking. App is designed to give you a bad score so they can justify raising your rates.

Mas. C. Feb 23, 2021

Awful new design. App randomly shuts down. I liked it better with the overall score. EDIT: after last update, doesn't show any trip on the trip list.

Hai. H. Jul 5, 2021

This app is a scam likely designed to raise the rates even of good drivers. Why would it say my child had distractions when she was the passenger? The sales rep that sold me this told me it knows the difference. And not being able to use GPS is ridiculous, that is hands free!! And nobody at the insurance company can help and all this app developer has is an email that they never respond too. I'd give no stars if I could.

A. G. u. Feb 27, 2020

Terrible app. Doesnt know if you are driving or not. Doesnt know if car is parked. Doesnt know who is holding phone. Get ready for baseless accusations from a condescending app, courtesy of MetLife, who are fine with misjudging you so they can charge you a higher premium. MetLife is recording and selling your information for months, while berating you as a driver.

Sha. W. Jun 12, 2021

Doesn't close and forces me to run it in the background. Fortunately, I can "pause" the application but then it unpauses itself after a while.

A. G. u. Nov 19, 2019

Ok app. But is missing some things like acceleration?I get dinged for hard braking and I rarely use the brakes that hard. And it docks you for distracted driving if you have an app open if your not even looking at it.. should be addressed

A. G. u. Jul 8, 2019

Tracks your driving habits. They must use 95 year old drivers for their baseline. Tell me I have distracted driving points against me and I never touch my phone. Also harsh excels? Maybe I should let my car idle up to speed. Stupid app. I will be powering my phone down before I drive from now on.

on. t. w. w. P. Apr 6, 2021

This app is way too sensitive.. it will say I have phone distractions and the phone sits in its holder perfectly still. Then they say I have a hard break in the same spot every single day. How is that possible.. it accuses me of heart acceleration from a stop light. I don't get it it says my road is rough I drive on the highway and the main road I really have 3 turns to my job and to home.

A. G. u. Jun 21, 2019

great idea, bad development. my map never works, ding you on harsh accel getting onto highways. ding you for harsh breaking even when there is no harsh breaking...and really my lowest score is for the roads i drive... that shouldnt even be a factor. i live in nj. every single road you chose is the wrong road here.

Ste. C. Sep 26, 2020

It actually does a pretty good job. Wish you could tell it when a passenger is using your phone, but supposedly they don't count it against your score.
