WORLD CENTRE OF WORSHIP OF THE DIVINE MERCY

Divine Mercy Sanctuary is first in building the convent of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, which was established in 1891 as a foundation of Prince A. Lubomirski for girls and women in need of deep moral renewal.
In the interwar period in this monastery he lived and died. M. Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), through which Christ the Lord gave to the Church and the world the message of God's mercy. It brings the mystery of Divine Mercy, calls for trust in the Lord and the attitude of mercy toward one's neighbors, and also to preach and imploring God's mercy for the world, including through the practice of new forms of worship (the image of the Merciful Jesus, the Feast of Mercy, Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Time of Mercy).

In 1943, the Cracow confessor of Sister Faustina. J. Andrasz SI devoted the first image of the Merciful Jesus brush A. Hyła, offered as a votive offering for saving his family during the war, and initiated solemn devotions in honor of Divine Mercy. The image quickly became famous for graces, so year-on-year increase in the number of pilgrims who haunted the grave who died in the odor of sanctity of Sister Faustina.

Very dynamic development of the cult of Divine Mercy followed the beatification of Sister Faustina (18 April 1993) and the canonization (30 April 2000), and also thanks to pilgrimages of the Holy Father John Paul II to Łagiewniki (1997 and 2002). It caused the extension of the sanctuary, including erection of a new church - basilica up on 17 August 2002 consecrated the Peter of our times. In this place Pope entrusted the world to Divine Mercy.
