Good to read the MKE Journal-Sentinel as well as Space stories from Florida Today. Nice that there is a Clear Cache function. Wish that the cache, if not whole app, could be moved to SD Card. However, there is Code Bloat from inefficient programming, as the app takes up a lot of storage space (164 MB plus the story and advertisement cache). Too much app time taken by ginning up the Dancing Bear Advertisements. No longer works on a not-too-old Samsung Tablet, so 1 star now. Cannot attach to net

App was good until about three weeks ago. Now it takes upward of sixty seconds to load whereas in the past it loaded almost immediately. Not sure what the issue is but it's sure annoying.

Until recently I was happy with this app. Now it won't open on my Samsung galaxy even after uninstalling/reinstalling. Works ok on my iPhone.

I can't manage my account because it won't let me sign in. I call customer service and they are not helpful. As of March 14, 2022, hasn't changed. Still can't access my account.

It runs smoothly on my old tablet, and has most of the news stories of the print edition. While it has a section titled "Green Sheet", this "green sheet" is only photo albums without the accompanying stories. Also it does not have the puzzles and comics from the print version, which is part of my morning routine. So when my carrier misses our home and customer service suggests I use the digital version, I am SOL (Surely out of Luck). The digital print version does not work on my older tablet. :(

Solid world/local news but app is glitchy and sometimes unavailable since last 'upgrade'. UPDATE: I've been a paying subscriber for years and now, for some reason, I can no longer get in. MJS can't seem to fix the problem. Obviously a deal breaker. Giving them 1 more chance (the 4th!) before ending subscription.

Den. R. Nov 19, 2020

Since last update I must log in every few days. Please fix what was changed to cause this as this is very annoying but the good news is it is easier remembering my password because I have to use it so often. Lol Just an update on the app and it has gotten worse! It continues to want me to sign up for a subscription but I already have a subscription! It won't let me read the articles.

App crashes repeatedly all day long! uninstall and reinstall does no good. customer service reps are worthless. billing is always screwed up. IT help is a complete waste of time. not sure why I keep trying so hard? guess it's just force of habit as I've been reading this rag since I was a kid growing up in Milwaukee in the 60s!

Mat. S. Feb 4, 2021

UPDATE The irritation continues, no improvement. It is absurd that I have to sign in EVERY time I open the app. Subscribers should not have the kind of hassle and it makes it FAR less likely I'll ever use the app. It's better to just save a link to the home screen... Even if your site design is nearly as bad as you app functionality. Still.... a _Lousy_ way to treat people who are already paying to read your content.

App will not stay logged in. Almost everyday I am forced to sign back in to the app to be able to read articles. Really annoying, please fix! *updating review, 2+ months later and app still forces me to sign back in almost daily. Really sick of the only news I pay for having an app that makes me.sign back in multiple times/week, sometimes multiple times/day!

The app makes me log in everytime. This does not meet the basic expectations of an app. Local papers want us to continue to support them (and the Journal Sentinel is a good one), but the exasperation with this app is leading me towards a cancellation.

Tau. T. Dec 3, 2020

Irritated!!! Why do I have to always sign in and the app is on my phone? There should be a way to stay signed in. I get notifications that I've missed so many stories but have the damndest time signing in. Also, managing my account online as well as reading the paper is hard. I'm considering canceling all together and I'm a die hard new reader.

Ste. R. Feb 28, 2021

The App is great but there is no sign in. When pushing for subscribers, you can't read an article without "subscribing" because there is no way to get past it to sign in. A major programing flaw and very frustrating for subscribers!

Kyl. W. Oct 19, 2020

I enjoy reading MJS articles and the app is well organized. I love that it has dark mode. 1 small inconvenience is that I have to re-sign in at least everyday when in order to read articles which gets to be annoying. If they fix this it's 5 stars.

It's hard to believe but this app has gotten even worse. Where before it would lose my password, now I can't sign in at all. This is no way to treat subscribers. Tech support doesn't respond. I even reached out to the newspaper's editor, and he couldn't get tech support to help, either.

L. S. Nov 20, 2020

The app sends me frequent notifications of new articles and every single time I have to sign in. It's like you notified me clearly you know I have a subscription why do I have to sign in every goddamn time, especially since you don't save the password and I have to type it in.

Bre. L. Sep 5, 2021

Scam of an app and scam of a company. Check Shepard Express instead. Cancelling your account is effectively IMPOSSIBLE if you did it through their website. "Support" via twitter is just drafting a tweet that says "null: null". Phone support is worthless as well, since despite being an automated tool the cancellations are only allowed during business hours. Your best bet is to go to their website, go to the help center, and use the live chat feature on their support menu, you'll get a bot that eventually allows you to cancel your subscription.

A. G. u. Dec 4, 2018

WAY, WAY too much advertising. Extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Very close to canceling because it is so annoying. 40 year subscriber to journal, sick of all this.

Rya. U. Feb 13, 2021

The Login Issue Is Not Isolated, Guys! You'd think that, after seeing the top 5 reviews all bemoaning the amateurish design of this app and the need to sign in every day or more, that they'd get around to creating a "keep me logged in" check box. But you'd be wrong. Get it together, Gannett, you're irritating what precious few subscribers you have left.

Lar. H. Jun 17, 2019

Automatic renewal even though I cancelled. wont allow me access to highlighted articles, takes me to a subscription page, saying my i used up my seven free articles. very confusing. Days old articles still show up in feed.

Val. D. Apr 23, 2021

My phone resets every time I clear a notification from this ap. As a subscriber this is very frustrating. I will gladly change my rating once this issue is fixed.

Vio. W. Dec 15, 2021

Has not worked for 2 days. Just stopped. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still nothing. Everything else on tablet works but not Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Will try uninstall and reinstall a 2nd time.

Cra. B. Jan 16, 2022

Not up-to-date with "current" local news. Some headlines have been listed for months.

A. G. u. Mar 5, 2019

Nice to leverage my subscrition to the print edition. I wish, however, that the data cache, if not the application itself, could be moved to External Storage (i.e. SD Card).

Emi. G. Apr 28, 2021

The Journal Sentinel still charges you $9 a month for access regardless of this Google subscription. I would give zero stars if I could, but at least Google--unlike the JS--sends an email receipt and provides transparency about the charges. Support your local alt weekly like Shepherd Express and don't give the slugs at Gannett your money.

Wil. R. Jan 11, 2021

This app is pretty bad. I have to log in daily. Now I can't even log in at all. I've had to change my password a few times. It does accept my password consistently

Bil. W. Sep 7, 2021

Don't confuse this app with full digital access to MJS. You can only see the articles they want you to see. There is no access to things such as obits or the green sheet.

Ron. T. Nov 19, 2018

Terrible AP. Mostly click bait. I paid for digital access, and sign in never works. The reason people don't read the Journal Sentinel is because the news coverage is worthless except for sports. They totally ignored the John Doesn't scandal, and anything else that isn't a Democrat talking point.
