Mindstorms Custom Controller
How it works:
-First pair your NXT or EV3 with your phone with Bluetooth.
-Press "Add NXT" or "Add EV3" and select your brick.
-Turn on your brick and press Connect.
-Press "New" and select the size of the grid.
-Press on a tile and drag a slider into the field.
-Now drag the buttons to reposition and resize the slider.
-Press the gear icon and select the desired brick, mailbox, range, or go for the direct motor control and select the port and direction.
-Now go back to the main screen, turn off "Editmode" and press connect, it might take a while.
-That's it! You can now use your custom controller.

It's great! You have freedom to customize your controller however you want. The best part is their is little if none Bluetooth lag. The official mindstorms app is awful with that, you push go and it will take a second or more to respond. This app does not have this issue! It's comparable for both ev3 and nxt. It's just a shame this app is not available on iOS products.
Best Controller for Mindstorms by far. Easy to build control layouts, supports direct control AND mailboxes, and has can recieve back from lego. I've been using this for all my projects for a long time and love it.
Good start. But as I want control a robot with 4 drive motors and Mecanum wheels, I need to select the direction of each motor when setting up the controls. Can you add that?
Nice interface. It would be helpful if button colors could be changed and labels added for buttons. Tab labels would be helpful as well.
Great app . Easy to enough to setup and brings the old next to life. Will be using with the cubs scouts for an evening of Lego football.
The app is well made and a simple YouTube tutorial will get you going, it has all the controls for anything I can make. Overall fun to use.

Every time I try and connect my Ev3 cube the app crashes

The best Mindstorms controller I have tried and I have tried many. Hope we don't have to wait too long for the new features.
In direct motor control the direction can't be changed individually for each motor port. I want to control a car with two driving motors but they work in opposite direction. Also I haven't been able to use the mailbox control. Every time I start the program on EV3 the app will not connect by bluetooth with EV3. It only allows a connection when program is stopped on EV3. I like the interface. The editor is smartly done.
