MO 4Media - remote control and player

This app is a remote control for JRiver Media Center (MC) software running on a computer (we have no affiliation with JRiver, Inc.). It also can play back media from the MC library locally to the device. It is a music player for Android Auto as well. It supports video, audio, and images on Android TV.

A running copy of JRiver Media Center on a networked computer is required. You must enable "Media Network" in MC for you to be able to connect and access your media. See https://www.jriver.com to install and get more information.

Features:
- Control MC playback over wifi with your device
- Control separate zones and link/unlink playback between zones
- Play audio/music files to your device with optional volume leveling/replay gain adjustment during playback and optional file conversion
- Play audio/music files via Android Auto with voice control
- Play video files to your device with optional file conversion
- View images on your device with optional file conversion
- Run macros (list of network commands) when zones are selected or unselected. These can be MCC (control MC) or TCP (control networked A/V equipment).
- Device volume buttons can control MC or networked A/V equipment volumes
- Create playlists and add files to playlists
- Play selected track Artists or Albums in external music apps
- Theater View remote control
- Connects via https if SSL is enabled in MC
- Wake-On-LAN
- Download files with offline playback
- Seeking during playback
- Gapless audio playback
- Rating buttons in notification
- Custom UI colors
- Option for Video playback in external player
- Video, audio, and images playback on Android TV
- Casting

The free version has the following limitations which can be removed with a $9.99 one-time in-app purchase:
- Can only play first 3 files in Playing Now
- Can test but not save zone macro and volume commands
- Only 30 seconds of video playback
- External video playback is disabled

Notes:
- To customize the library items that you can browse edit the MC options: "Tools | Options | Media Network | Advanced | Custom views for JRemote, Gizmo & Panel..."
- To have a custom root view for Android Auto (e.g. just browse audio, group artist by letter, etc.) create a root library view named "Auto" in the same options as above
- Thumbnails are not currently displayed in Android Auto with https connections
- Cover art is intentionally missing from screenshots but will display properly in the app with your library
- If you are experiencing unexpected playback STOPPING when playing to the device with the screen off, disable BATTERY OPTIMIZATION for the MO 4Media app: search for "battery optimization" in settings

Android TV:
- Seeking/resume is not currently possible with ts files. This includes most recorded TV and file types you choose to convert for playback (ts conversion is the only kind available in MC currently).
- DTS-HD audio output is not currently available. The DTS core audio is used.
- To have custom root items on the main screen create a root library view named ATV as described in Notes above.
- Chapters: Default "chapters" are generated every 5 minutes. You can have specific timed and named chapters by importing a .xml file into your library and setting the Name tag as "VIDEONAME_Chapters" where VIDEONAME is the exact Name tag of the target video for the chapters. The schema of this xml file is that which is produced by extracting the chapters from an MKV file with mkvtoolnix.
- Backdrops: To have a backdrop show on the file details screen import at least one image file into your library and set the Name tag to "MOVIENAME_back" or "SERIESNAME_back" where MOVIENAME is the exact Name tag of the target video for the backdrop (SERIESNAME is tv episode series name).

Unable to purchase / subscribe through settings link, says store unavailable, seems to work ok for Jriver media center, but play store says it's not optimised for my device, its a Samsung Tab 7+. (I also have a standard Tab 7) it would be too small to use on a phone for Jriver the big screen makes it ideal, what's the deal??

Better than what Jriver is officially putting out Seeking producing a new button that you must click to seek rather than just allowing drag and drop to seek seems odd from a UI choice. A feature that I think any Jriver remote really needs at this point is to use the "divert" function as available from within MC. The fact that no one has integrated it yet keeps hindering jriver.

This app is good for playback in the home environment and on a mobile device. I am able to control my home server, my android tv device and all of my android devices. My pain point, and it is a huge one, is the fact that it is almost useless when I try to use it in my car with Android Auto. The interface appears, but when I select an option it just spins and searches. It never really functions well enough to allow me to use it with my infotainment system. I have to resort to connecting my phone to my aux jack and playing music directly from my phone. That just is not acceptable. If not for the Android Auto weakness, I would rate it 5 stars.

The search is great but the playback is extremely flaky: while it is able to find songs when I actually try to play back, most of the time it doesn't play. E.g., 1. Clicking to play an item I searched for often starts playing whatever was "playing now" rather than the song I want to hear 2. Many times hitting the play button doesn't do anything In contrast, I can go to the MC Panel and have it play 100% of the time. update: the problems have been fixed and the app is now fantastic!

I really wanted to like this app. It's way better than what J River puts out for android. However I can only give it 2 stars because of 2 things: 1. Android auto is totally broken. It doesn't play music. It doesn't play nice with other music players. It takes over from players which actually work. Had to uninstall because of this. 2. The free version is basically useless.

Easily the best Android remote for JRiver. The more I use it the more I like it. Tons of features, like the ability to open album booklets or look up related info. Tag display feature works very well and all the date fields are properly labeled and correctly formatted. Search is great and continues to improve. No other remote comes close.

This could very well be the best JRMC remote, but presently it lacks an important feature. It cannot switch zones, at least I cannot make it do so. It will apparently control other zones, but switching to a zone is not possible. This is unfortunately a direct showstopper for me. JRemote and EOS can both control and switch zones, please implement this feature in MO 4Media.

Shows Promise, sound quality is good as is video quality and it found my jriver server without any problem. As it is though forward and rewind (both manual and scrubbing) dont work nor will the app resume from a bookmark. It also wouldnt play video to my shield via chromecast. I'll keep it installed though in hope theres more improvements to come.

Wow. I have been suffering the glitches and problems of Jremote 2 for a year now. Wish I had found this app sooner. Works perfectly. The biggest improvement is listening away from my home network. In my car, on my bike, or walking my dog, I have had perfect gapless playback at all times. I love Jriver, and this is the app it deserves. Much thanks.

After struggling with JRemote2 I've given up and bought this. What a difference. I can now read booklets and it doesn't keep falling over, like the JRiver version does. Don't waste your money on JRemote2 - just buy this instead.

Awesome for Jriver. Unless I am missing something but in the Playing Now, can you add a Fast Scroll function or an A-Z scroll Function? I have 4000 songs and to get to the bottom is tedious. Also Volume Control does not work in ASIO but that is to be expected. Switch to WASAPI.

Great app. My only wish is that shuffle was easier to implement. Hard as hell to integrate into the android auto environment. Update: Shuffle works beautifully now with android auto. Love this app!

Been using it for about 2 weeks now, this is much better than Jremote. Everything works smoothly, my only request would be to show the file type, while playing, like Flac, Wav, MP3 etc. Good job.👍

Let's me just stop you right here, and get right to the point (tl;dr)... if you're looking for the best Android remote control app currently out there for JRiver Media Center, you've found it here with MO 4Media. Why is it the best remote control app? Well, I'll list the two main reasons... 1. Gapless playback that actually works. With JRemote, Gizmo and eos there's no working gapless playback with my Android phone. With MO 4Media, it actually works! This reason alone is why this remote is now my main remote control. 2. It's in active development. Gizmo, JRemote and eos hasn't been updated in several years. In fact, the Gizmo/JRemote developer(s) don't currently plan to update Gizmo or JRemote for the time being. MO 4Media's actively gaining features in a relatively short time where it's almost already on parity with JRemote, Gizmo and eos. It also has other very useful features, including Android Auto support and Android TV support (for video at the time of the writing of this review, audio/images *should* be added soon). So in my opinion, it's already surpassed JRemote, Gizmo and eos with more to come soon!

Not even connect to my server.
