Monospace - Writing and Notes

Useless! A careless swipe or 2 deleted 2000 words, closed the document, & made it impossible to recover the work. It was upsetting to loose that work. It's very easy to make this mistake! I've experimented with several files created to test this. I've never such a problem before with any text editor. Too bad because I actually really like it otherwise. The utter carelessness of this interface design, permitting deletion of the entire contents, without access to useful undoe feature fixing it.

I want to like this app. Its interface is clean, I like the hashtags for organization trick. But the formatting displays incorrectly half the time and the premium version is a complete waste of time and money. There's no place to set up the so-called syncing features or specify which account you want to sync it to, or how often. I have to export everything by hand anyway and even that doesn't guarantee a viable transfer of what I actually wrote. There are better apps out there, for sure.

At first, I thought this app was great - it had exactly what I wanted. However, some files with formatted text would revert to normal or the wrong text would be in bold, italics, etc. And I was fine with that. But then I found that, whenever I accidentally pressed the undo button on a file, the content of that file would be completely erased with no way of restoring it. This has happened to me three times now.

This app is beautiful! I won't use anything else, because nothing is minimal enough. Unfortunately, this app hasn't been maintained for several years and there are some frustrating bugs such as Google Drive sync not working, formatting issues, and scrolling to the top of the list after backing out of an item. I hope to do a rewrite of this app someday, because I love it so much.

I use this app a lot and few times a day to write scripts for my work. Love the entire feeling of the app, even bought the Pro version of it. But I can't give full 5 stars as it's very, very glitchy it disturbs my work. There are text formatting won't save especially when editing a previous file, there's even random formatting that being done without even me asking for it. At times the formatting bar went missing or goes high up in the screen that it's unusable. Also one big glitch is that every time I change the screen orientation it stuck at loading. I had to close and restart the app if I ever wanted to change the screen into portrait or landscape mode. I hope this will be fixed, as I really loved the function and aesthetic of the app, but the glitch is too much and infuriating.

It's just not good enough to buy right now. I've used the free version for over a year and it's still full of bugs: Changing text size causes incorrect spacing below; The last word/character you type is not saved some of the time; When selecting something for the first time after the file opens, the editing tool bar pops up just off screen; Unrecognized characters show up as a whitespace instead of a box; formatting is plain text, so certain combinations of characters can't be used.

Very few apps on this vast store are true to their word, and I can say, without a doubt, Monospace is one of them. There're practically no tools available to assist your writing process, but it does help you stay focused on your content and the clutter free interface makes revision a breeze. To keep the users distraction free, they've even gone to the extent of not putting up ads in the free version, which is something I really like about the developers.

I had been looking for a simple Notepad app to use just for plain notes. I was sick of the proprietary databases that stock apps came with and was looking for something simple, minimalist, but solidly functional. Monospace not only has a great, old-school aesthetic, but it stores its notes in a very straightforward manner. I had no problem transferring them to my PC. Just what I was looking for - thank you and keep up the great work!

Okay app, but it gets awfully clunky when trying to organize notes a lot of notes into their files. It's fairly buggy, too. For example, whenever you hit the back button to exit a note, it automatically goes to the top of the list instead of remembering where you were on the last screen. This gets annoying and confusing when you have a lot of notes.

I've used this app for over 4 years. Despite some great features there are some extremely negative bugs that still haven't been fixed. The app will delete ALL content on a note if you press 'undo' on a newly opened note. Also, the app uses symbols as coding language for its own application of bold and italics. So it will mess up your use of bold/italics if you use certain symbols within a note. Many great features but these bugs STILL aren't fixed. Sorry that I'll have to find an alternative.

Inefficient folder navigation & sorting. Only individual files sort by name or date, not folders w/ multiple notes, the order is frustratingly arbitrary & I can't order my notes the way I need to. More sorting options such as size, word count, etc would help, for both unmarked notes & folders. Needs better navigation of folders list. After exiting a note or backtracking through the app, the app defaults to the top of the folders list & I waste time scrolling back to my place to find the next note I want to edit, which is tedious & time consuming bc I have dozens of notes & folders that I browse through & edit regularly. There should be tabs where you can toggle or swipe between folders & unmarked individual notes, instead of lumping all notes into one long list. The search function doesn't help much either bc the keywords only bring up individual notes & not the folders they are sorted in, which means you have to remember every single specific note by name instead of the category you filed it under, ie "resonant breathing techniques" instead of "meditation" or "mental health"

I was getting annoyed with writing. The varied widths of modern proportional text characters kept distracting me. What a welcome find this app was, which cavalierly turns its back on 40 years of progress and makes you use a monospace font for everything! Ah—the joys of adding an extra space after each sentence, spending twice as much time scrolling, and pretending you're a hard-boiled detective typing up reports for mysterious clients, smokes and whisky at hand… Who needs an actual life? Not I!

this app seemed pretty solid until it suddenly crashed and the document i've been working on all night just got deleted after the app crashed. when I went to check the file, all I found inside was the word 'content.. I SERIOUSLY REGRET COMING ACROSS THIS APP. I thought it was geeat because it was simple and had dark mode on, but unless you want to buy it and have the option of saving the file on your drive then DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS.

Google drive sync Pro functionality doesn't work. Furthermore, reading around online seems to indicate that the developer has abandoned this app. Don't shell out money for the pro version. Night mode works well, which is what initially drew me to this app. Disappointed that I spent three bucks on software that doesn't deliver explicitly what it promises behind the paywall.

kind of useless. love the aesthetic, but the features are just *too* minimal and the filing system isn't very good. it also randomly changes the formatting of some words when i exit the app then go back in. and the pro version is a massive waste of money because it's pretty much exactly the same as the free version

I was happy with the app and bought premium, but it still won't let me use the premium features: it says I still need to buy premium, and then when I click the "buy" button it says I already own the item. On top of this, the listed contact details for the developer are out of use. Edit: Recently got a new phone, and was very excited to find the premium features now worked. Then the app refused to show me my notes unless I gave it permission to my contacts... Strange. I'm done with this one :(

I backed up my monospace to dropbox before performing a software reset on my phone. After reinstalling the app, it doesn't remember that I had the pro version and I can't restore my data. I used to like this but this is the second time I've lost all my notes with no way to get them back

My go to writing app for phone! Why? Because it's the only one I've found so far that will not lag at 20k+ words in one document. All others will lag to the point theyre unuseable, which is a problem if you, like me, write stories on your phone. There are minor issues such as the loading circle occasionally getting stuck, and drive not working, and of course no more updates from dev (i assume considering last update being 2016), and yet I love this app a lot!

Horrible experience. Spent hours writing, only to have a glitch with the text size cause me to press the undo button, but after pressing it a few times the entire document was replaced with the word "Content". Hours of writing, thousands of words, gone. Thank you Monospace.

Very buggy. Trying to choose a longer line of text is difficult due to the cursor being very sticky, using the quick menu to, for example, copying or cutting the text requires severals taps per button. Black and white look is cool, but the app is very cumbersome for someone who just uses one note daily.

I have been using it for 5 years, from highschool to college This an app for you who are looking for fancy ways to take a note. But a Big NO if you want the safety of your notes guaranteed. Lots of glitch. Not a save app for important notes. The auto-save feature is very annoying. Not compatible for rotation in some device. I regret installing this. If you read this, please install another app, If you don't want to feel the discouragement i and some of my friend felt. Because i am the one who recommend them to use this junk. I decide to stop just now, i can't stand it. I am moving my files to another app

Unreliable. Runs into formatting and undo bugs that cause all file content to be lost, irreversibly. Happened to me twice, so I uninstalled it and will not use it again unless the issue is fixed. It's a pity, because it's overall a lean app.

It's a really simple app with a terrible bug. I write diary entries that are pages long. The undo button deletes the whole file consistently. Can you PLEASE fix this? I lost a lot of good work because of that. Thanks. Great app otherwise.

The App works like the simple kind of magic I want in life for jotting down notes and snippets. HOWEVER, I am crushed and dissapointed that after buying the Pro version, I still can't get my old notes from my old phone onto my new one!!! On the new phone, it keeps saying "already own app" when I try to sync or buy! I mean, I KNOW I already own the damn app, I paid for it, I'd know!!!! I just need it to work how it's supposed to! Please fix this, PLEASE! It's a perfect app, otherwise.

Great writing app with huge letdown on pro edition. This app worked really well for me so I decided to purchase pro edition specifically for Google drive syncing. Unfortunately it doesn't work. To make things worse the contact email address is invalid so there's no way to get support.

I'm not sure, I'm trying to find and app that allows me to do all types of formatting, especially including ***STRIKETHROUGH*** I did not see strikethrough listed as an available format from the pictures in the beginning. I'm trying to find an app (hopefully this one will be it) that will allow me to format my text or even a single word in a way that is unavailable on the normal Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Samsung keyboard, so that I can copy & paste the formatted part to my keyboard⬆️ 5* if it works!

Great, with only exception of the rendering. Different headings are not rendered properly with size and font differences. Other markdown syntax such as lists rendering also needs improvement. Otherwise, a great app. Only the feature you need are present. No extravaganza.

I rate 4 stars since I have used this app before. Now I installed it in a potato (low-end) phone and see if it will still work properly. When I make a note and use auto-name, I get a toast saying "There was an error reading files". I don't really get what it means, and my guess is the problem is in the phone so maybe you can tell how to fix it? thx
