Morse Code Intercom

Morse Code Intercom lets you chat in Morse with other users on your WiFi network or The Internet, or use its Training Mode to learn Morse or improve your Morse skills.
Morse Intercom currently starts in Intercom Mode (a sort of Morse Instant Messenger), but can be switched into the alternate Training Mode (which disables intercom communication) with two button taps. I intend to add a storable Intercom/Training mode startup option, so you can select to startup in either Training or Intercom Mode.

Currently, at startup, you must select 'WiFi' or 'Internet' mode. To use the apps training options you should almost always startup in WiFi mode.

i) WIFI MODE
- Ring-fences Intercom users from The Internet. Users connect to a common WiFi network. Intercom messages will not be sent to The Internet, and intercom messages from The Internet will not be heard by WiFi users. If you use the apps default Intercom mode you might want to practice with friends all connected to your network in WiFi mode before venturing into the Wild West that is The Internet. Almost all Training otpions (including obtaining messagges from newsfeeds) work in WiFi mode.

ii) INTERNET MODE
- Users have full Internet connectivity. They can talk to any other user of the app, anywhere in the world. This mode relies on external servers not controlled by the developer. Please set 'My Callsign' to something unique, eg. your amateur radio callsign or an email address.

Intercom Mode Options:

i) One to All
- like Morse sent by radio
- all listening users on your WiFi network or The Internet hear your transmissions, and you hear transmissions from all other users. This emulates 'real' Morse.

ii) One to One
- only one other user on your WiFi network or The Internet hears your transmissions, and you only hear transmissions from that user.

iii) One to Several
- only a restricted group of users on your WiFi network or The Internet hear your transmissions, and you only hear messages from members of that restricted group. Especially useful when the app is started in Internet mode but you want to restrict communication to a subset of app users.

A web browser version of the app is available that can communicate in Intercom mode with the Android app. It can be found at http://www.program2anything.com/morseintercom.html (it's a Flash app, so must be run on a laptop or desktop, unless your mobile browser supports Flash).

Switching from Intercom to Training mode:

Morse Code Intercom always starts in Intercom Mode (a sort of Morse Instant Messenger), but can be switched into Training Mode with two button taps. If you intend to use Training mode you should almost always start the app in WiFi mode. The only exception is if you want to be able to receive training messages from intercom users NOT connected to your network in WiFi mode.

Training Mode Options:

Received strings are not played immediately, but are queued. They can then be replayed as often as required at any speed possibly with exagerated gaps between characters (Farnsworth delays).

i) Local Mode
- Your device generates and sends you random messages. Messages from remote Intercom users are blocked. Works in both WiFi and Internet mode (WiFi recommended).

ii) Newsfeed Mode
- Your device sends you training messages obtained from an RSS newsfeed. Messages from remote Intercom users are blocked. Counter intuitively, RSS newsfeed training works in both WiFi and Internet mode (WiFi recommended).

ii) Remote Mode
- Remote Intercom users send you training messages. You cannot reply to these messages. If the app was started in WiFi mode, you will only receive training messages from intercom users connected to your network in WiFi mode. If you wish to receive messages from Internet users you will have to start the app in Internet mode.

Not what I was expecting. Looking for a trainer to send/receive morse code as well as being tested on the cw. Much like some trainers that let you get graded on your ability to write the corresponding letters/numbers or "." and "-", but to messages sent to and from other users.

This app is tremendously useful. I had been using an older version on a PC, but THIS is FANTASTIC. The newsfeed works perfectly and the practice runs are fun. Thanks Graham! ,73 KX3P

App is very nice. Have not tried the intercom feature, but enjoy the training mode (especially the RSS to CW feature) quite a bit. The UI is a bit sluggish - perhaps that's due to the author using Adobe Air as a platform.

Chatted with the developer for anhour or so using the app, I use it at home to teach my son to copy cw. Keep up the good work G4BUF!

Great tool to hone your skills when you can't get to a radio. Newsfeed is a nice feature for random sentence generating as well. Well done!

I installed this, played with it a bit, and had a QSO in munutes. All at 3am!! I have to admit though that I had to have the app decode the message. I'm just learning the code and using the Farnsworth method so I know my letters at high (10-12 wpm) but recognition is still slow. Wish I could adjust the speed my self, but still leave longer gaps. I'm suggesting this app in all my Fb radio groups.

Translates ASCII and sends as code very well. I look forward the option of sending code practice straight, without using ASCII at all.
