Morse Toad

Do you love codes and secrets? Morse Toad is the fantastic educational app that teaches you morse code through a series of simple lessons and exercises. Based on the world renown Koch method, letters are learned one at a time -
- at full speed -
- and when the player demonstrates their mastery of the new letter, another is added until the full alphabet is learned.
This app is for you if you ever:

* Plan to be held hostage in a spanish villa
* Plan to signal a search helicopter with a flashlight
* Plan to be trapped in a mine and communicate with rescuers through tugs on a rope
* Plan to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a live telegraph wire

Here's what people have to say:

"My friend and I both used your app to learn Morse Code while on a plane to a hacker conference. It's really polished!"

I never write reviews but this app is amazing. The pacing is spot on for learning, and you can move on at your own pace easily. The levels move up in difficulty at the perfect increment, and it is extremely easy to use. The only thing I would have them improve on is if they could add a vibration, sound, or animation for when a button is touched, that way the user gets feedback that their input has been recieved.

I don't usually write reviews but this app deserves credit. I managed to memorise Morse code in less than two days quite easily. That said, I can only translate one letter at a time, which is a bummer. It would be so much better if the app didn't just stop with individual letters and numbers but also went on to words, phrases, and even sentences.

Great app, would pay for an ad free version. Would also like to see a toggle option to turn off the dots and dashes on the letters, there is no reason at all to aid visually, it will just cause people to create lookup tables in their heads, which in turn will slow down learning, and copy (decode) of morse code.

This is a great app to learn the alphabet and numbers, but as others have said, adding some features and modes would make this app much better. In under a week I have gone from not knowing any Morse code to being able to recognize individual characters about 90% of the time. This app could be greatly improved by adding varying difficulty levels, adding random words or call signs, and having some kind of sending mode(s).

I had my alphabet down...sorta, but could never get motivated to cut through the pain of learning digits. This app was painless. Please, please please make a paid app with words, punctuation signs etc. I would even pay for app now that I' be completed it. Fun fun fun

Small, consise, effective, fun. Loved it, the tutorial is masked as text at the beggining of the first few levels then mixed up with trivia to break up the 'monotonus' (i used quotes because I don't find it that way). There tons of uses morse code dough you probbably allready wanna learn it.. I hope, and if so, use this.

Great. Makes learning via the Koch method fun and accessible (provided you can hear). Minor gripe: there is no indication that button presses have been registered while the ad loads. I'd love it if the buttons would change color or brightness when pressed. Aside from that, it would be awesome to have a deaf mode where the code is presented as a flashing light, and to be able to buy an ad free version.

Using the Koch method of teaching Morse code this app gets you familiar with each letter fast! I replayed it numerous times and have gotten decent in only one day. The only negative thing I could say is that I wish it went further. It would be nice to have full word comprehension with adjustable pauses in between characters.

This app uses the Koch method for learning Morse code, which is perfect. More configurable options (sound effects, animations, etc) would've been nice. I wish it included word-level practice. There's a huge difference between copying a letter successfully and copying a word a few letters long. I also think keying practice should be in the app. Clicking 'C' isn't the same as keying dah-dit-dah-dit. I don't feel like I learned a language, I just learned how to read the alphabet.

Great concept only problem is that hitting the 'Continue' button after finishing a section closes the app. Going back to the menu and selecting the next section works but the continue function doesn't work. Overall a great tool to learn Morse code just needs that one fix to be perfect!

So far loving this app, but Hate the Ads. Please release a version with no ads. I want to pay to be rid of these ads. This would be a 5 star app if it wasn't for the ads. Not only are they always there, but they slow the game down big time with their download times. I have to rate this only a 3 because of these ads.

A good app ruined by excessive ads. I'm happy for you to make some coin, but almost destroying your app to do it is an insult to yourself and your users. Ads need not appear any more than 1/4 as often as they do at the moment. I'd have more respect if you asked for a dollar or 3 for a paid version. Just my opinion.

By far the best app to learn morse code in an efficient way combined with humor. Highly addictive, which helped learning all letters in a few days - which is though also why I wished that after mastering all levels and challenges it would continue with words as a next difficulty level.

This app is just too cool and yes, it teaches you international Morse code (the useful code ) very rapidly but don't be surprised when you can barely transmit (key) or receive ( translate). This app is not for that. That does not go without saying this is a must have training tool an no other app will drill you the basics so fluidly. After and whilst using this app you will be able to take your practice elsewhere. I do wish it had something for transmitting and receiving added to the levels or in some way that keeps the app fluid. Would be so dope and make this app a must have in all training. Even tho it still is :)

I'm always up for learning new thing. I assumed learning Morse code would be difficult to grasp like a new language. However this app really made it simple for me and I retained the code way easier than I thought I would have. I just wish it had some way to test my skills like a game or even just a translator

Get. This. App. Truly innovative, exciting, fun way to learn Morse code. Even after five minutes of play, it's obvious that this will be a huge accelerator to me really learning. Plus, with polished graphics and snarky dialog, this will be a big hit with kids looking to learn. But by no means is this for kids only -- old timers well get a kick out of it as well. Love that it's teaching at a relatively brisk WPM and not slowing down for newbies. One request: allow for handwritten input as an option. Thanks!

This app is incredibly fun, simple, and effective. I have never used a better morse trainer. There are other programs that use the Koch method, but this program succeeds in gameifying the experience. My only quibbles are that I would love for there to be a way to disable the ads for a few bucks (the ads aren't really all that intrusive though) and also at the beginning of one of the levels (outer limits IIRC) the app says that the space between words is equal to a dot which is incorrect.

It teaches you morse at full speed from the word go without feeling impenetrable. That is pretty impressive. There should be added game modes to decipher messages you'd expect to receive in real life, but we are already pretty spoilt by this app.

I really like this app and I can see where it would help catch the attention of youngsters, or anyone for that matter, getting started in CW. While I find it cool I do NOT like that acknowledgement chime after each letter. It is very distracting and slows down the progress as well, it should simply go to the next letter and keep moving. Just my 2 bits... Go chexk out Morse Machine it is awesome!

I couldn't get pass 2nd lesson on koch's but with this app within first 4 hours I went further than in last 3 weeks. It's a great thing for kinds as well. Challenging and gives you a lot of fun. To bad it does not continue. .. I really recommend.

I really like the learning method for this app - it feels like a game and I feel like I've never understood Morse Code more than I have now. And I love the bouncing toad! I haven't gotten very far, but I hope there's challenges where it shows me words and I have to tap them out in Morse code. Also, there could be settings, like the option to turn off the extra non-Morse code sounds, and to change the timing between hint beeps. Speaking of timing, a timer would be nice.

I learned 7 letters in less than 10 minutes. If my life depended on it I would actually know those 7 letters. I decided to stop because of saturation but I'm pretty sure in a few hours I can pick it up and learn a few more letters today. Pulling the cheat sheet every few lessons really makes sure you can remember it but this is done at a pace to where it's reasonable. Anyone seriously wanting to learn Morse code should try this app it's impressive and you can pick it up really fast. Thank you!

Leaned Morse so fast I blew a fuse in my head. in a good way. Great concept, implemented well. Had ads, but typical and expected of phone software not developed by some organized non profit.

Lie. C. Nov 20, 2016

Varying from other apps to learn Morse code, this one adds new characters on systematically, not alphabetically, fostering new connections to memorize new characters. With the pacing starting full speed, it all clicks better and makes the few applications that exist in the real world harder to miss.

Fun and educational. I want more! Feature request: a visual mode with light blips rather than sound blips so I can continue playing it on the train without headphones. Each level could have "sound only" "light only" or "sound and light" modes so I could be sure I had learned both properly. Feature request: receive pairs of letters and phrases levels. Feature request: "translate within the (decreasing) time limit" levels. Feature request: "tap out this letter" levels. Feature request: "tap out this letter within the (decreasing) time limit" levels.

I've tried other Morse teaching apps but never got either engaged to the game or was able to actually learn it. This is a lightweight and fun app that is making my Morse learning experience smoother. Thx folks! Update: it doesn't work on my HTC M9... :-(

Though the app is great but there are a few things to which could've been better like the layout, letter buttons are too small to tap properly, sometimes they won't be tapped at all, the app won't clone on back button press etc.

A. G. u. Feb 19, 2017

Best training app I've seen so far - am even able to learn at 20wpm with no problem! My only suggestion is that there is less repetition to learn the numbers, but since there's a pattern for them, maybe it isn't as necessary. I almost passed over this app due to the name "Toad", not realizing it was truly for Morse code, but then figured it's due to the developer's funny sense of humor. I really like this app! Will probably write another review as I venture further into the training areas - so far I'm just about completing "A New Journey" section.
