Whenever it gets updated, taking video is a nightmare. You will press record and "record an entire video" and when you press stop it will say "unable to capture media" and after two tries the whole app shuts down. What's worse, is that sometimes it will work just fine. So you never know if your camera is actually going to save your video or not.

Recently starts taking large bursts (eg, x400). Older: Not following instructions when mobile data on, suggesting security a problem or memory allocated to camera. Sometimes takes an age to save picture or take it: no good for urgent wildlifeshots. Difficult to focus, will adjust exposure at slightest touch if you try to use this as a focussing point, exposure control ladder (at side of screen) very unresponsive. Best at close-up or infinity. Tried alternatives but returned back to this camera.

Over the past few weeks, I'm unable to pinpoint if there is a correlation is the app update and the start of the issue, but in the recent past continuing through the present, the camera is very slow to open and even slower to take pictures. There is an extreme lag between clicking to take a picture and the camera actually engaging and taking the picture. Prior to the past few weeks the camera was fine. I've freed quite a bit of memory off of my phone thinking that might be the cause (even though I had more than 50% of the memory free), I have cleared caches and restarted my phone more times than I can count; the problem persists. With a growing family I take lots of pictures however I find myself missing so many fabulous shots due to the nature of this camera as of recent.

Slow motion video? Better than I expected! Taking photos? Eh, not the best app for this. I'm glad that you don't include crappy filters and self-advertise as a "great app" because of that. If you want filters, go to Instagram. But tools like blur, different scene modes, best shot selector and selective focus would all be really nice. One tap focusing tool REALLY needs to be revamped. I don't want it to refocus every time something moves. The focus stops and takes a picture even when it's still blurry. I don't know why you all are complaining about low quality photos all of a sudden, maybe you all need glasses.

It's very unstable. I focused perfectly well with the camera but after i pressed the shutter and looked at the photo, it was not what I saw through the camera lens it was blurred. So you don't get what you see. In general it takes a long time after pressing the shutter to take a photo. As a result many of my photos were blurred, especially at night. Ok I lived with it but all of a sudden, without doing anything, it takes a very long time to take one photo. You can basically see the screen black out and then on reloading the screen, you see the refresh symbol cycling for seconds. The app description here in Google's Play says there is zero shutter lag but THAT'S NOT TRUE AT ALL. Panorama: I had other phones, like HTC, that allowed me to take panoramas as lengthy as I like. Motorola however restricts my panoramas to a specific length. In the end I had to take multiple photographs and bring them into Adobe Photoshop and make my own panoramas. Manual mode: it would be great if I could choose my own shutter speed, just the way I could choose the ISO and aperture but unfortunately there's no such options.

Worked well enough until recently. As of Nov 3, its incredibly slow and crashes a lot, and won't focus on anything so all pics come out blurry, regardless of distance. Can't even record anything as it's too blurry, it's akin to looking at something underwater. Even when it worked fine, it was very mediocre--for comparison, my 12 year old brick phone takes far better quality pictures and video. Maybe because I didn't have to install an app? For smart technology, this is getting pretty stupid.

Well I must say that I am less than impressed with this camera, the resolution is so low and the quality of the photos I take with it are pretty much garbage. Now I'm not trying to be harsh BUT I will say that I understand that this phone is ALOT cheaper than let's say an iPhone or the New Pixel/Galaxy phones but I was extremely surprised when I got this phone a few months ago that the quality of photo's we're so bad. I'm using my old phone that's all busted up with a cracked screen (an Alcatel 4) to take all my photo's still. These days of social media and selfies you would think that most brands would want to create the best camera possible because that's what the majority of people want. The first thing I go to look at when I want a new phone now is the camera quality, battery, space & easy to navigate. Also, I would like to add that the functions within the camera app are SOOO confusing, one time I'll use it and there will be certain setting I can access and then the next time it'll have totally different settings, it's so confusing and weird. And I noticed that in play store, for this app the example photo's are far better than what the app offers in terms of quality....

The first few months the camera worked fine. Then it started giving a camera error every once in a while. Then more often. And more and more I would have to shut down and restart the camera 5, 6, 10 times. Then I disabled some sort of Google image editing app and it worked for a while and now it's just started glitching again. It's always been slow but taking pictures is one of the biggest use features of a smart phone nowadays, this needs fixing!

Not great. From time to time the picture takes forever to capture (5 seconds or more) which is very frustrating. Occasionally when capturing video, when you finish it tells you "unable to capture video" and you don't even know until the end so that is easily the most frustrating problem I've encountered in any camera app. Yeah it's pretty terrible. And this is a problem that I had on my previous Moto and now starting to happen on this one. I won't be shopping Moto anymore because of this issue.

Rab. R. Apr 22, 2020

Absolutely ridiculous app. I have to start it numerous times to get the camera to work. It states 'error.' Then finally; or should I say miraculously it starts. Sometimes starts in the 3rd try and sometimes doesn't load after 10 try's. What's this rubbish? I've had this problem for a long time now. I really would like to give it 0 stars, but it's not possible. Still the same. No improvement. Tried in other apps; still doesn't work. And how come it's taken you; the developer this long to respond?

Picture quality is OK but the app is the most basic camera on any of the phones. No effects, that I can see, not even a monochrome option. That is when it works. Half of the time I get "Camera error. Restart camera". Missed some good pictures because of that. Combine this with the lack of a Moto picture viewer and it's a pretty poor offering.

personally, i have had a very bad experience with this app. i hope the update fixes this problem. Each time i record a video and want to save, the application just stops and the video gets lost. i have missed to capture very important moments in my life because of this problem. I thought of uninstalling the app. The development team should really fix this. it's so annoying 😡

Tif. S. Nov 9, 2018

I've always loved how I can tap anywhere on the screen to take a picture and be able to zoom with one finger. However, since the update, I am unable to open the app from the lock screen unless the app was already running in the background. I get a "Permissions Required" error asking me to change permissions. Thanks!

Amb. B. Nov 3, 2018

Because the updated app takes so long to capture a picture once you press the button, it actually manages now to miss the flash entirely, causing the resulting images to be entirely dark. How is this possible! The capture speed is even longer than before, meaning the flash is gone by the time it captures the picture! Absolutely ridiculous to have a camera app that can't take pictures properly. Where is the update fixing this bug.

update 1/29/19: I'm no longer getting the error! Happily able to capture cute baby moments. I'm not sure what changed but I'm glad it did. This app keeps giving me the "not able to capture media" error. I have a new baby and I am trying to record moments and when I get this error it makes me want to cry. He's only going to be this little for so long and this is very frustrating.

If you want to take photos with this app anywhere that is not 100% bright and well-lit, you're out of luck. The focus completely fails, the colors are out of whack, and the photos end up blurry and grainy to the point where even Snapseed can't save it. Save yourself an album full of crappy vacation photos and get a non-Moto phone.

All. A. May 10, 2019

It's honestly shameful how terrible the camera is... I hardly bother trying to open it because I know I'll just be frustrated when it crashes. I wish it was as simple as installing a better app but I'm stuck with built in camera issues. Maybe it's the hardware, but I can't tell. It's so laggy when it does work. 3+ seconds to try to take a picture, when it's already focused and has a lot of light. One of the main reasons I'm getting a new phone is because of this terrible camera.

Rya. B. Apr 29, 2019

I have the same problem of it refusing to record at the end of taking a video and saying it could not capture media. It tells me at the end not at the beginning making it unpredictable and useless for video. the app also dims greatly even when I turn the screen brightness all the way up and there is no setting to fix that so it makes it difficult to see in daylight. none of my other apps have the dimming problem

A. G. u. Dec 4, 2018

The twist gesture was bringing up an annoying "permissions" screen rather than the camera. They fixed that. My current complaint is, if you swipe the screen right or left, it switches your camera mode to a video instead, and you will miss your shot. I have missed many many photos because it switches modes in a non-intuitive way.

Developers! Please fix! There is a bug in the app where after one photo it freezes and the button to take more pictures is unclickable. Then I must exit, clear out the app, and reenter. Which is very frustrating! Yes, I have contacted support and done Tons of troubleshooting. Evidence points towards it's a bug in the app. When I uninstall updates, it works great. Unfortunately, doing so takes away a key feature I use. Then when I reinstall the issue is back. That clearly points it's an app issue

This app is fine, except I feel frustrated by how slowly this app loads and how long it takes the shutter to close. There is a lot of shutter lag. The app description claims this camera app is "really really fast with zero shutter lag" but that has not been the case for me. I want to be able to take pictures of my family when funny things happen. By the time this thing decides to wake up and take a picture, the moment is gone. I'm on a moto g5 plus.

Ste. G. Oct 14, 2020

Worked fine for many years. New update makes the app unstable. Frequently crashes on start. Randomly crashes during use. I suppose this is modern software for ya. Fix what ain't broke. Changes nobody asked for including UI - consistency out the window. Push things out the door as fast and cheap as possible - quality out the window. Updates that make an already trivial program require even more fantastically powerful devices to run... Your streaming pixel data to blit to the screen... Come-on!!!

App gives camera error every time and does not save photos any longer. UPDATE: Found that having a 64GB micro SD card formatted as internal storage was what was causing the problem. Switched to 32GB and now use it as external and app works. (had been working for nearly three years the other way) Must have been an update to the phone when I wasn't looking. Maybe the E4 was just too good for the price they charged and they had to downgrade the phone. Upgrading review to five stars.

Its great despite the fact that every time I use it, it closes any media I have playing. SoundCloud was playing music and i used the camera for a moment and SoundCloud shuts down. With YouTube, I'm able to hit home while the video minimizes to the corner of my screen. When I use the camera after a minute or two, the video disappears from my screen. I don't know whether its my phone or the app itself. But everything else for the camera app works fine.

Awful. My '09 Razr took the best pictures ever. When I upgraded, they said this was better. Nope. I got a replacement and was excited to see professional mode and quickly grabbed a few, much better photos only to find that mode disappear once set up was completed. How did I have it for two days then lose it? This camera has a terrible time focusing and I get messages to clean up my storage of duplicates and blurry pics. It randomly, but often takes two pics at a time. Drives me nuts. Hate this
