The app needing to stop the broadcast to deliver an ad is the single most infuriating functionality ever developed in an app. Listening to anything is impossible. It doesn't matter if I'm using a wifi connection or mobile data. I would be willing to pay $10 to have an app that plays an ad one time when it is opened, and then never again until I reopen the app. It is entirely unusable in the state it is in, and until an update is sent through, I'll be using a different app to stream MPR.
If i could give it 0 stars, I would. Adds interrupt randomly in the middle of stories amd then I miss what is said. Sometimes ads interrupt the ad that"s playing or the same ad plays several times, lengthening the interruption, . So frustrating! And the sleep timer is now gone. I used that all the time. Please bring it back.
You miss the stories because it plays ads instead. Sometimes I hear two ads during one story. This wouldn't be that bad if show picked up at the same point after the ad, but it doesn't. You just miss that part of the story. There isn't even an option for a paid version with no ads. Mpr is choosing to make money from ads rather than letting me pay them.
Does not work with newest OS or Bluetooth or headset. Constantly cuts in and out over Bluetooth. When headset enabled, keeps randomly changing stations. And interjects with a new ad (I think) everytime you pick up from a new cell tower; real fun when riding the bus. All this makes it impossible to use
I ran this app for about three minutes (on android - Samsung J7), and it flooded my phone with notifications/vibrations while running; despite my chromecast being listed, I continually received an "sorry, there must have been an error" msg on my chromecast... So for now...back to TuneIn Radio, which is fairly reliable for MPR station streams. Hope that MPR some day invests in robust & stable software dev for music/news streaming (I love everything else about the org itself) :/
Love MPR but this app is ridiculous. Cuts out after a few minutes of listening and when I press play, two streams begin playing at the same time requiring a restart of the app. Please fix this! Update: a year later and still the same issues over all sorts of devices. C'mon MPR, I love listening but this issue is ridiculous!
This app was fine until this latest update. MPR is a multi-billion dollar entity and it seems like they cannot hire competent Android devs. It seems that they pushed a release out and failed to remove a debugging tool that tells you that an app is currently running. Every time I stop the app, it sends multiple notification sounds and tells me that the app is running. The fact that this is still in a live update and hasn't been replaced tells me that MPR doesn't seem to care about Android users.
It allows the app to turn on when I start up my phone. It allows too many things that keep my phone running and drain battery. It's easier to just put a weblink to the MPR homepage on my screen.
Starting about 2 weeks ago, would constantly quit after 1 or 2 songs randomly. deleted app and reloaded it and it seems to be working now. If this doesn't fix it, I am removing the app because it wasn't functional with it quitting all the time.
This would be a great app if it worked. The stream is great but using the holiday stream it randomly goes into a loop of silence and adverts every 5 to 10 seconds that interrupt. This can happen after an hour of playing or after 5 minutes. Makes the app useless. I loved it but eventually had to uninstall.
Same with the other negative reviews. The app interrupts with ads probably every two songs if I'm listening to The Current, or in the middle of a broadcast if I'm listening to MPR News. Totally unacceptable. I've been a sustaining member for 10+ years and am deleting this app.
Requires a lot of work: It plays a sponsor spot when it starts a stream, not a problem on its own, but it replays an ad everytime the connection changes. So every time the device switches to a new wifi or cellular network you miss ~10 seconds. No qualms about the content, only techical issues.
The app keeps flaking. It's almost like it restarts, sometimes within minutes of doing the same. I love MPR. I'm a member and they really are the best source for local and nationwide news (and music) so I want their app to reflect how awesome they are!! Please fix it so I can give you the five stars you deserve.
I can't close the app. It just keeps running till I force-stop it. I've already Uninstaller and re-installed it twice, but this still happens. Very frustrating!!!
The app plays a 30 second ad every time it switches routers. It is totally useless unless you are stationary. Lately it has started pausing after 2 to 3 minutes of play, with a 30 second ad every time you repush start. Infuriating...
It cannot connect to any Google home device and their station constantly freezes if played through iheartradio. If I ask ask Google to play any of their stations, its only choice is to play through iheartradio and not their own app. This needs a lot of work before I use it again.
I used to use this every day for years but now the app stops every time my phone screen turns off. That's not useful at all. I have had to start streaming via the MPR website which isn't nearly as good as a dedicated app.
Was working fine on an older phone. New phone with 5g makes it unusable. Anytime the app senses a connection change it plays an ad. Fire some reason this is happening every minute or so running off of cell. Hopefully it gets fixed.
This app is absolute trash. Used to work flawlessly until maybe Jan/Feb 2021. Now randomly stops playing broadcast constantly, often about every 5-10min. Wifi or mobile data, same result. I love MPR, am a sustaining member and will continue to be, but hoping y'all fix this.
The interface is excellent for live streaming the broadcast. However, I have frequent drops of the stream. It usually comes back quickly but it is quite disruptive.
I love MPR but this app is glitchy, stops randomly, and takes forever to load. I keep getting notifications that it is running in the background and using battery, even if I had closed the app or never had it open that day. Uninstalled.
Like many of the reviews here I keep having ads breaking into the music or news programming at random times. If I can't stream it dependably I may have to reconsider my decades long membership. Please fix the android app asap!
Love MPR but this app is constantly running even after you stop listening. Please improve the app! I have to force stop the app multiple times more than a day after using it.
App used to have the playlist now it doesn't. Plays the radio but doesn't have any information about what program is on or what the playlist is. I opened up classical MPR in a browser window and I guess that will have to do.
The app stops streaming frequently, I don't know if it's a problem with buffering but something is less than efficient with the stream. This isn't great, but what makes it a whole lot more intolerable is that every time the stream restarts it triggers the underwriting message to play again. Which means we miss even more content than we might otherwise. And it happens frequently. A simple change of having the message play only within say a minute of launching the app or switching stations would make listeners much happier, even if it still suffers from occasional buffering. Users are frustrated because it seems like member-supported public radio is just drenched in advertisements, and it's not a good look.
