MRCOOL WiFi Remote

Great system but app needs to function more like real thermostat cutting system on and off with temp change, system fan currently runs all the time and all you can do is set a timer.

Why does it only work with their app? No assistants and having to log in every time you want to change your settings...

app won't connect to the unit no matter what I do., I have a pixel 3 running the latest version of android. I see now that it says the app won't support anything over Android 6.0... which is like 99 versions of android ago. I wish I could reply to the poster below me to find out how he got his phone to connect. mine gets to the last page of the setup process, into the second step, then crashes and tells me the unit is not in AP mode (when I can see it clearly flashing on the face of the unit). have emailed the developer and will update this review if they are helpful.

The install was definitely finicky. Had to select the manual connection approach. Even then it would get stuck on the last step. Exiting & re-opening showed it working. If my router resets, the A/C does not reconnect. This is a pretty bad limitation. There's a new wifi module for the A/C. Hopefully it has that fixed. It would need great if you could also tap on the temperature & just type in the setting you want. The dial looks nice, but it's not as quick to guess where a given temp is.

Was originally concerned seeing all the negative reviews, however I had no issues at all. The install was painless though I did have to create an account. As far as functionality, it works as designed. My split is installed in a remote building and I wanted to turn the heat / AC on ahead of time before entering, and it does this just fine! Using an LG with Android 7.0. Update 11/10/19: On occasion the Unit goes offline and I have to power it down via the breaker and turn it back on.

Need to turn on the AC first in order to specify option. not all options from the remote are available in the app. It would be great to save multiple scenarios with different settings including different on and off times. -- took another star away: app hangs and won't turn on app w/ preset timer. App forgets password over and over.

The registration for the wifi remote has too many bugs. I followed all the registration instructions but could never get access. Finally it told me that my password was not recognized. The link I was sent to reset my password was too long and had no references to the MrCool company. In short, it looked suspicioius to me. I removed the wifi connection from the unit. I was looking forward to using this feature, but that's not gonna happen until MrCool cleans up the bugs and improves security. (I cant submit this review until I select a rating. The ac works well and the installation was a breeze. I would have given Mr Cool 5 stars had it not been for the wifi remote failure.)

Installed my new MRCool Mini Split this past Friday. The system works great though I wish I could get the app to connect to the system. I never received any QR Codes and the manual method doesn't work even though I can see the system in the list if WLAN connections on my device. I connect to it but the app doesn't do anything.

RECENT; with update will connect but get random device offline errors when device was just working just fine. Temp adjust dial is worst than before, too sensitive when adjusting. BEFORE; Frequently has connection problems. Flashes Time Out message and will not let you reconnect even if you restart app or reboot. Has great features if or when it works.

This app is better than the reviews, at least for me. I was able to connect the unit to my phone after several attempts, I am able to control the unit with my phone (while on the same wifi network as the unit) but, while on wifi, I cannot use the IR Remote. Also, the app needs work. Perhaps written by someone who's first language is English? Also, "Timer on, and Timer off" actually means "unit on and unit off"? Can we get a schedule option? Not just "on and off" but actual schedules. Example, at

I just installed a Gen2 24k DIY unit (purchased 9/2018) I almost didn't bother with the wifi app after reading some of these reviews, but decided to give it a shot anyways. They must have made a substantial improvement as everything has been entirely seamless to this point. Android 9 on Google Pixel. Will update if anything changes.

The latest update... finally able to get it to work with the manual mode. MRCOOL provided stickers of QR codes, but they were codes for Apple devices. Almost 2 yrs trying every few months and nada! So today I tried again and voila! Installed in short order and works great. Haven't tried it away from the house yet.

I get all of the way to the home Wi-Fi screen. I select my local wlan and put in the password. Absolutely nothing happens. I never get past that screen, no matter how many times I do it. Since it doesn't work, I think it deserves 0 Stars.

The April 24th 2019 update fixed some bugs but one really annoying bug still remains: When you switch from one unit to another or try to use the back button, the app has to re-login each time! This is very annoying...

purchased a gen2 24k BTU mr cool diy unit - the unit works great, but the app will not always connect. it says the unit is online, but once you click on the unit it stays on the blue screen and trying to do anything just give a time out pop up. time out issues constantly. please fix this issue as it was one of my main reasons to purchase the unit, would also like to have the unit go into freeze protection mode when the timer turns off, instead of turning the unit off.

Purchased two Gen2 24k BTU mr cool diy units. The wifi app or feature does not work reliably. Timeout issues constantly. Mr Cool needs to fix this ongoing issue as it was one of my main reasons to purchase. NEED UPDATE TO WIFI APP TO ELIMINATE THE TIMEOUT ISSUE AND ADD THE 8 DEG CELSIUS FOR COLD TEMPERATURE INDOOR FREEZING PROTECTION.

they updated the UI and it finally works perfect. now I don't get anymore issues with connecting and it even shows the outdoor temperature, too. Nice little touch. new update. they fixed the login issue again. lol

Can't even get it connected!!! I'm stuck at the connection screen. It'll stop at the very first step at 99% until the machine automatically comes out of AP mode. Very frustrating.

After many times trying to use this app I finally got it to work with my pixel 3. Several failed attempts, then turned cell data off and it connected and worked after that. App is still buggy wish they would improve it.

for anyone that is here trying to figure out why their Mr Cool mini split wont connect because the wifi network name is wrong....youre using the wrong app. you have to read the instructions and download SmartHVAC. Not intuitive! 😂

Handy when it works. Always says "device is offline" when it's not offline. Only way to get around it is to cycle the power (switch breaker off/on). Obviously that defeats the convenience of using an app if you have to go switch the breaker.

HAVING SAME ISSUES. So it says in the about this app section : "The APP could not support Android 6.0 and up" (SERIOUSLY?). I see so many bad reviews that wants me return this Mr. Cool mini split unit that I recently purchased and installed. The developer has not answered a single review and app has not been updated for a long time; to me has much to say about the quality of the equipment as well. DEVELOPER: please have a solution to the reviewers complaints. Thanks.

scanned qr code. put in witi password. times out after numerous attempts. Turned off 5ghz WiFi and still no luck. i look in my router and it shows connected. but app is useless since it doesn't finish set up.

Unit goes offline constantly. Only way to reconnect is to remove power, delete device in app and start over. Not worth the trouble to do every other day. Dont waste your time. Just use the remote it came with.

Worked well until my wifi changed and the app was saying account don't exist and unit is off line, my ac doesn't have a plug it's hardwired so thankfully after weeks of not being able to get in touch with any customer service I just read here that you must unplug and replug the unit in order to get it back on line! So thanks to the reviewer here for that info. Now let's see if it works!

Either the USB dongle software or this app needs to be fixed. Works ok for a day or two then it's offline. The only thing that corrects it is powering off and turning it back on. please help.

Cannot get it to work. My device creates a wifi AP named "smarthvac" but this app looks for a wifi named "net_ac" so it will not continue with the device registration. Edit: Mrcool has apparently switched to using the SmartHVAC app. If you can't make this app work with your device, try that app.
