Since the last update with the visual refresh, the app has become completely unresponsive, and as a result, completely unusable. It can take upwards of 30 seconds to a minute for a new screen to load, and it's not clear whether you've pressed the right button. As usual, the payment processing still is broken and throws errors inconsistently, forcing me to log out and log in regularly. I've used the app religiously for four years but something seriously broke for me, and it's quite frustrating.
Poorly written garbage. They tell you to activate the ticket before boarding. But the ticket person doesn't check until later. When you switch back to the app, all you see is an error. This is broken even when airplane mode is on which was the fix previously. Using airplane mode to "fix" the app shows how incompetent the developers really are because they failed to configure a proper network timeout when the app doesn't have a signal in the tunnels. Learn to code!!
I bought CityTickets with the belief that I could use them throughout the month, only to read some fine print later that said they were only for daily use. Had to wrangle with customer service for a month to get a refund. Then the app sent me a warning for "activating the ticket on the train" (even though the ticket-takers may not even come to my car), and to top it all off today they locked my account with my tickets, forcing me to pay out of pocket for a ticket. The kiosks are easier to use.
The first time use it and the payment can't be processed. If the viability of your app service is predicated on digital transactions and you can't do that, what are you? The option to buy monthly tickets through a third-party (Cash app, Google, PayPal, Facebook), needs to happen soon.
This app is used to be so good. After the update it is no longer the same. It take forever to load and the message saying MTA isn't responding always pops up. Then finally when I reach the payment page it tries to charge me triple the price. It constantly crashing. They really need to fix this A.S.A.P
Just awful. Doesn't save searches correctly, reverts to current time instead of the time you need to travel.,Clunky, buggy, hard to navigate.
Slowest app I have ever used; 10-15 seconds to respond to each press, regular app frozen messages. I guess I am just ungrateful but surely it's possible to do better.
This app always worked until today, when my credit card info only produced an error message. 3 times. My cc works fine, i had to go use it in a ticketing machine. Calling 511, as customer service indicates, is useless. Too bad my only option is to write this review
I wish I read the reviews before I tried using the app. Which usually I do. All the negative reviews are accurate. The double one way tixs (same stations) when you purchased round trip. The $10 fee when you're under 2 minutes. Traveling with daughter and two grandkids for an afternoon in the city. Afraid of what will happen when I actually use the train in a few hours! Again, based on the bad reviews that are so far correct. I will never use this app again.
The app has become literally unusable since the update on the Pixel 3. I spent about 15 min trying to get it to work, but I'm just going to have to get to the station much earlier than planned in order to get tickets from the counter.
This app is trash, it does not use any of the password savers that you would have like the Samsung. You have to physically type the card number in, doesn't allow auto fill for any of the information in puts like credit card numbers or you name, not even able to take a picture of the card for the auto fill. The app is just as much trash as the MTA and LIRR.
The app has a weird glitch. Most of the time it works well, but occasionally it has this strange problem. After activating a ticket, it is shown with the usual activated ticket window. Suddenly this changes and the app says the ticket has been used. This has happened twice. Each time the ticket only showed being active for about one minute. Both times I could go into the ticket history to show the conductor that I had only just activated the ticket, but both times it took several minutes to convince them that I didn't need to buy/activate a new ticket. 1) The app needs to be corrected. 2) The conductors need to be told that there is a problem and that looking at the history to tell when a ticket is activated is the appropriate thing to do until the app is fixed. (I am using Android 9.)
When you use this app, be careful. They sometimes charge you twice for a ticket. If you report the issue to your bank, MTA will block the eTix account until a manager gets back to you (it takes a long time to hear back). When you have an issue with a payment, contact them first! Avoid getting the app blocked because its hard to get it working again. It's difficult to hear back from a manager, and I've called multiple times.
I downloaded this so it would be easy to buy a ticket, but once I did, it looked like I purchased 2 one way tickets with the same routing, which is not what I wanted. I ended up being unable to cancel only one leg of the itinerary, and it took longer than 2 minutes to figure out the very unfriendly app, so I was charged 10$ for the refund. ugh. I'll try again, but I think it might just be easier to brave the lines at the counter, rather than use a modern app that could actually help a passenger. meh.
I don't take the LIRR that often, maybe once a month. Every time I open this app it says my session has expired, I can't log in until I reset my password, oh no you've registered a new device, update payment info, etc... Like I'm at Jamaica very stressfully trying to set everything up AGAIN before the train I want leaves, and then it freezes! Going to a kiosk is easier. The user authorization system just needs to be redone, it's a horrible UX issue.
Works pretty decently, and easier than buying real tickets. Some ideas for improvement: * Show a "Last Ticket" label on the main screens' ticket wallet suggested ticket if this is the last ticket in the wallet - so that there is no surprise on the way back * When switching between apps the MTA eTix app "forgets" about the ticket screen you were in, and returns you to the main screen instead. Since showing the ticket to the conductor is a pretty common scenario, it would be nice memorized this
Terrible app. Extremely unresponsive, slow and annoying to use overall. Also, no integration with Google pay? I will just buy paper tickets...
The glitchiest and most nonfunctional app I've ever seen. Broke so bad that I had to pay with cash, and it cost more as a result. The makers of this app officially owe me 5 dollars.
The last update is terrible, each screen takes 30s-1minute to load, buying tickets will 5-10 minutes, this make the app essentially unusable. How did this update even pass QC before releasing to public?!!
DO NOT USE. Trying to buy a ticket throws an error but still charges your credit card. This is not a one-off event; it does this every time.
BE AWARE! The app indicates to activate your e-ticket 'just before' boarding your train. It is not clear until you read the fine print down in FAQ that once activated it is only available for use for a fixed time, which turned out to be 2 1/2 hours. Earlier while getting ready at my hotel to travel home, from NYC to CT, I activated my etix, only to have to repurchase when I traveled 3 hours later at additional cost of $35.50. App works nicely otherwise.
Very difficult to use. To see the changed service or planned work one has to choose by train, so it's tough to see what other alternative lines are working well to change your usual trains where you commute. It's not possible to see the schedule of trains. So I keep using the old app
The app isn't letting me buy new tickets! Please fix. I rely on this app to ride the trains and I don't exactly enjoy overpaying for my ticket when it isn't working properly. Also it is way too strict... If you buy a new phone it gives you a warning that your account will be invalidated if you switch phones 2 more times. It's not 2003. People get new phones.
You'd read the other reviews and would think this app is completely worthless. I've used this app for what, 2/3 years and at this point I haven't run into an issue once that wasn't caused by user error.
Okay so this app is convenient for one way trips. I'll give it that. However, I purchased a round trip for me and a friend and all four tickets showed up to the same place. In other words they all were going the same place and what I bought wasn't a round trip at all and I didnt have tickets to get back. No big deal, I'll get a refund. Well they keep $10 off each ticket. So $20 later and now I have the tickets I originally asked for. Kind of a scam, buy round trips at the ticket counter.
Can't buy tickets on the website anymore and the app takes several minutes to load, then keeps giving me an error every time I try to search for tickets. This is a garbage app that is unbearably slow, full of bugs, and makes you refresh dozens of times to make any progress in the transaction process. Either upgrade your servers, replace your development team, or let us buy tickets through the MTA website again.
Attempted to purchase tickets and kept getting error messages. Charges appeared on my credit card for each unsuccessful attempt. Luckily for MTA, they were each followed by a credit. This application worked once in March and that was it. This application only succeeds in getting me aggravated and wastes more time than waiting on line at a ticket machine.
The app takes forever to advance to the next page. I get an error message on every page. "App not responsive". Once I get to the page to purchase a 10 pack it confirms my selection. Once it's advanced to the payment page the order is doubled. Each and every time this happened. I do everything I know to fix the issue including uninstalling the app and starting fresh with a new download. The attendant stands over me seeing the nightmare I'm dealing with and charges full price cash on a Saturday.
