I don't understand why Yamaha can't develop a modern, efficient, reliable app with a user-friendly interface. Sources drop out with no apparent cause. I frequently have to restart Spotify/Chromecast via Optical/Internet Radio. I'm no novice at network administration, my network is not the problem. I have SIX MusicCast amps and the software badly lets down the excellent hardware. Such a shame. Next time Sonos or Google.

I commonly do not review apps, but I am forced to express my frustration. When this app works, I like it just fine. However, I cannot keep the app connected to my receiver. The app says it is logged on to an unknown ssid. I know this is not true as nothing has changed in my network. Both my phone and receiver are logged on to the same network showing the same ip address for the network. So frustrating. Update: I improved my rating to 3. It is now working after a firmware update on my RX-A6A.

Decent app, need some UX updates. The experience when streaming from music services like Amazon prime unlimited is clunky. Would be much better if they supported an API to allow casting from Amazon's app instead of forcing it from theirs. You can't skip through a song to a specific part. The UI on the TV is underwhelming, can't save new songs you find into your streaming services playlist. Seem like easy fixes so hopefully they get their act together.

This software is so unstable and unreliable as to make my wireless Yamaha speaker system pretty much inoperative. The speakers are very well built and the sound is superb. But, without a stable control app it is impossible to network these speakers. Yamaha decided to develope their own communication protocol rather than using preexisting versions that have been proved to be stable after being tried and tested over the years. Cost cutting, or simply hubris?!

Love this program, would be 5 stars with two simple changes. 1) Please allow for sorting from a server in the folder structure! Currently the structure is alphabetical, I want to sort the songs on an album via number. I don't want to always head to the album, instead I have my folders organised via artist, the sorting options need work. 2) GAPLESS. This app completely destroys the chemical brothers Further. Mind the gap!

Not well integrated with Tidal. Improving this would make the listening experience so much better. When music cast is on, another song will randomly start playing on my phone. MusicCast doesn't link with Tidal App properly. Not sure if it's Tidal or Chromecast but with people switching to non-spotify options, I hope Yamaha focuses on other music apps.

A good app for most things but struggles with dual band routers. needs to be updated to keep up. It requires unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in to reset it with the router - not fun when that requires moving a cabinet out from the wall to get to the plug. in addition, equalizer control is limited and you can't dial the vocals back past a mid point for your center channel. Other than that it does a good job.

Purchased a first Yamaha Musiccast device to try out, since planning replacing my Sonos S1 system. Very easy to set up and get connected; using Ethernet connection. So far has been reliable. Two suggestions: 1) Add an option to turn off the standby light. Not great having this ambient light when speaker is located in a bedroom. 2) Add a short cut from the room to the music menu, or if it exists, make it clearer.

Great for streaming Net Radio on Amplifier. Nice to have advanced settings where room stage customization including manual equalizer is available. Initial volume and auto off are handy features. Unable to connect with Alexa and Google assistant is a bummer - after so many years of the feature being available overseas, it is still missing for India. Sad to see such bias against us!

The app is okay.... it works well enough and does what it is supposed to. Here are my gripes. I still need to use the television to manage certain features in my Yamaha reciever. The app itself is not very pretty and could use some work. Tidal only runs at 44.1 inside MusicCast -- that seriously needs improvement.

Disclaimer: I use a receiver with wired speakers only. The GUI is semi-intuitive, some elements are hard to find. All in all I'm satisfied though, as with many tools you have to get used to them and their quirks. Yes, the connection to streaming apps could be better. Yes, there are bugs. Yes, fast-forwarding songs is a must but this can be worked around. Connectivity stands and falls with a well-working wifi environment. I had sporadic issues which I could trace back to my router.

Not perfect by a long shot but sound quality is top notch. Basic controls are good: I can easily play music from any source:USB, server, phone, Bluetooth,... Connection is 100% in my experience, even when playing from my phone. Adding songs to a playlist or the queue is pretty straightforward. Bad news: no searching, files on server can't be added to the queue nor put in a playlist, 5 playlist limit, setup can be annoying. Also, if you add songs to your usb you can make your playlists again 🤬

Not a bad app, but not a great one either. I use the server function often to stream lossless audio from my network and quite frankly this functionality is poor. It lacks a search capability....seriously! There is no song progression bar just a time counter. The interface is also crude and requires multiple steps to get back to your main library. I hope this function gets improved as it seems like an afterthought right now.

I don't know whether other people had experienced the issues that I had, but setting devices to be used through wifi in this app was a nightmare, so I had to link them by bluetooth. This was frustrating since I got the Yamaha devices to be used in my home network with this app. Yamaha didn't reply my email asking for help, either. I'm pretty good with tech stuff, so it just shows that the MusicCast feature is flawed and needs better attention from Yamaha.

This app is very disappointing when you need it to stream Tidal. It continuously crashes, it is very laggy and when you search for a song or browse a playlist it does not show the artists so you have to start playing the song to find out who it is by. Compared to streaming via Spotify Connect, it is way behind. If I had of known this when I purchased my R-N602 receiver, I would have considered another brand of equipment that allows me to stream HiFi quality music via an app that is user friendly

I've been using Musiccast with a 3050 for years and recently bought an A8A and again it worked fine. But in the last few days the app can't see my amp when I start Musiccast, on 2 different devices, and it will only work after a full setup again. It works fine but a few hours later both devices fail to see my amp connection again!!! Clearly there's z defect here but is it the app or the amp firmware? Either way: UNUSABLE!!! (Error: Previously connected device is not found (Code-201))

One cannot seek to a position of the song when streaming music from a server in net server mode & other ways. There is no seek bar for the app when playing music. Example if a song is 3:37 long , one cannot jump to the 2:37 mark to Play the last minute of the song if desired. Other music apps have this capability like Neutron , VLC, BubbleUPNP, DoubleTwist, MediaMonkey, PowerAmp (all better apps compared to MusicCast), etc.. Update: HEOS app for the Denon DRA 800H network receiver is a better app & it incorporates the aforementioned features I described Yamaha does not . Yamaha seems too lazy to add this simple feature to seek to a position in the song even playing audio files directly from the USB connected media. HEOS for Denon can seek to a spot in the middle of the song or it can cue to a position in the song.

The functionality of the app, being able to stream music over your WiFi is excellent. However, the UI for selecting music from your streaming platform (Except for Spotify) is terrible. To invest in a reasonably expensive amp to get such a garbage interface is frustrating.

Pitiful excuse for an app. Looks like it was written by a novice 2010 college freshman taking his first programming class. Yamaha needs to rehire the developers of its discontinued Yamaha AV Controller app. That has an elegant interface. I am considering returning my A6A and buying a used A3080 just so I can continue using the AV Controller app. Yes, the MusicCast app is that bad. Clunky, sophomoric, cheap are just a few words that apply.

Jam. B. Dec 28, 2021

Amazon Music integration is wholly dreadful! Clunky, slow and not the usual Amazon Music experience. Will not play back gapless live music, classical etc. Have to revert to Bluetooth connection and stream from actual Amazon Music app...then it works...but this kills devices battery unnecessarily! Come on Yamaha, great AV amp, great sound, lousy app! You can and should do better.

The app works as described and so far hasn't crashed on me so it gets 5 stars for reliability. However, I have a very large library of music ( over 14000 songs) and it is not easy navigate through the music. On my old SqueezeBox I could just tell it to shuffle all my music or choose a few genres to shuffle. MusicCast doesn't come close to that flexibility. The number of songs you can add to the queue at one time is very small. Minus 2 stars for ease of use and suitability for my needs.
