I had used Drag Queen until they stopped supporting it and installed MAW just before a 2018 hurricane was due. As I was checking the advanced instructions I heard a bang. Then The MAW alarm started. It was a moonless night and I didn't realize that my mooring line had broken and I was heading for the rocks. This little app saved my boat. As an aside, I'm impressed with the advanced features and the incredibly clear and complete instructions.
We are using the app right now at anchor in Puget Sound, Washington. This great app works consistently and gives us much better peace of mind that we are not dragging in the high current anchorages we frequent. We drop the hook, press set the anchor, set a swing radius, and relax. Having it on the phone in my pocket and not having to go to the plotter makes it easier to check for dragging in the middle of the night when the currents change. Looking forward to a paid version to get rid of ads.
I use the previous Pro version, and it is great. I have uninstalled this version and returned to the previous Pro version for the following reasons; - The previous Pro version has no adds - This version has no button to manually initiate a GPS lookup. This is useful if you are determining if you are dragging or experiencing GPS errors. - On this version, the 10 second GPS cycle o p tion did not seem to work, or the screen did not change for long periods of time.
It works! Downloaded the app and dropped the anchor. I was able to get the alarm set and it woke me early morning when we swung too far. The Help section definitely does help - well written and useful. I should have used 10 min to really learn how to use it and how good the app is. Easy on the battery and good insurance when at anchor.
Powerful, but to get the best performance read the help file, understand it, select your settings, and test at home before using. I didn't and wish I had, so learn from my mistake. The GPS system accuracy varies minute to minute, which you need to consider when using.
Helps you almost sleep well in windy weather. The settings are easy to use and the swing view all you to visually appreciate the anchor movement and how it is going to your max drift setable distance. Will even ring you when it hits the max distance in the free version. Well worth testing the freebie first.
I have just started using MAW but so far it is better than three others I've tried. This might be the one! If I can figure out the text alarm feature or if it can relay data to a remote mobile phone it will 5 stars.
it's the best amchor alarm I've found yet. easy to use and pretty reliable. it is dependent on the phones GPS signal, just like any other, so when gps accuracy is low, you do get a false alarm. just like any other.
Pulled into an anchorage and found my handheld gps with anchor alarm was missing. Read reviews and downloaded this app. Works fine but the phone had to be up against a hatch for decent gps accuracy. Will have to read the help further to take full advantage. Would maybe upgrade to paid but can't figure out how.
Been using this app. for 6 over years now. With new phone, the GPS accuracy is excellent. Easy to use. Leaving phone on boat to alert another works well (at least when we tested it, thankfully never needed it yet!).
Good app but sometimes stops working so i have to check it periodically. I sent a message to the company three weeks ago and no answer. Also, I would like the app to open in swing view but can't find a way to make it do that. Other than that, the app works well.
Twice now I have pulled up the anchor and darker away with no alarm, this app appears to lock up in the night. Lots of features but not for me.
A great app does what it says on the tin. if you cant use this app as intended best you stay in port as I dont want you anchored near me. Better still give up boating and admit you're not the sharpest tool in the box. good work
I've been using it for 2 years, tried others, but this is the best. Update 2021, still enjoying this app. Awesome tool! Must have for the serious boater. Heavy trawler, 45' LOA Cruising remote PNW/Inside Passage fjords.
This is a great App. It enables us to sleep peacefully while at anchor. recommended to everybody who sails. Documentation is excellent too.
What happened to this app? It used to be an anchor alarm with tons of useful features and now it's a hand bearing and shows up as "compass" in the app tray?
Pretty good app! It's certainly dependant on your hardware's GPS accuracy, but if you have good hardware this app does a good job.
Was greatest app in the past, but now it goes into standby mode for hours. I can leave the boat and it never alarms
This app makes anchoring out way more comfortable, and this is the only anchor alarm I have found with this much user control. Fantastic app!
1) how do you turn the app off 2) where do I find the help file that is supposed to tell me how I turn it off. I've only downloaded the app today and it looks really useful....but I could do with help on 1 and 2 first.
Great app. Love offset and anchor view. Wish offset input was point and click.
like the app and is useful when sleeping over on thr boat anchored in a cove. false alarms frequently, cant figure out why
Ripoff. Paid for pro version but now only free version with annoying ads is available
I use this anchor watch all the time and it is great with very easy to use extra features
On my old phone the app gave an occasional false alert but with a newer phone and Galileo satellites it functions much better
Can't input numerical GPS coordinates manually. Without this the app is inaccurate and worthless to me.
Have been using MAW in the Bahamas. It does almost everything I need in a drag alarm. It responds quickly when alarm conditions occur, it allows for bearing boundaries, it will issue a phone call to warn of alarm state, etc. The only slight issues I have with it are that you have to set the anchor position by bearing and distance to the anchor instead of the anchor's lat/lon. And strangely, the app reports current status as bearing and range from the anchor to the boat, not boat towards anchor.
