I like the app. It works well. My biggest issue is that you cannot persist the distance setting for the lightning. When you leave the app, it resets.
this App misses a few strikes as compared to my Acurite Lightning Detector which seems to catch more strikes than the app, but this app is pretty good if you have nothing. Plus the app actually shows you where the strikes occur right on the map.
This app is great! I am a crane operator, so I have alerts set for 10 miles out from wherever I am out let's me know when lightening is close. I find it to be very accurate.
I have an a Android. My friend has an iPhone. He has Thunder (1,2,3) sounds. Please add to Android. He uses Thunder3. Need better notification so at 10 mile you hear THUNDER & know to come down from high areas.
Have not had any "close by" strikes to judge the aps reliability but I'm always alerted to area storms, which I later found included lightning.
We've had 2 big storms in 2 days, and we have actually had multiple lightning strikes close to our house including 1 in our street that blew our fence apart. But yesterday the app showed 3 dots.. 3 effing dots in my entire city when it's going completely crazy with lightning. Right now there is a storm with heaps of lightning for the last few hours and there is nothing showing on the map at all in my city, only in the next town 45mins down the highway.
Alert, alert, storm's a comin'! Damn this program's good. 30 miles away and I'm on-guard! Had it for years, but just installed on my new Android. Reminded it's Great!!!
It's brilliant! Love being able to see which direction the lightening goes.
I love this app and wanted to go pro but something is erroring! It wont let me pay for it! Idk if thats a google problem or what but just giving yall the heads up.
Great app. My job is directly affected by lightning if it's within 5 miles and this app is perfect.
Great to experience the activity of lightning. It would be nice if this app did not constantly run in the background. After it is used, it should fade back to inactive. It needs an "I am finished" option. This would allow the user to turn off the app until next time it is needed. This would make for a more memorable interaction. It is frustrating to find out apps are on and using battery, in the background.
It works for me. It has been my go to app to keep alert during summer storm season here in Florida. I have found not much lag between when I hear a storm close, and when it alerts. I like that you can set the radius of your alerts, mine is set to 6 miles. It does drain my phone battery faster, but it doesn't run me out of a charge, it's barely noticeable. The one time I contacted the developer with a question, he was very prompt with a response, and not just a canned response.
A great app. you have to dive into the settings a little to get to some of the more useful features such as a radius on the home screen. for someone that works in recreation, this app is a great resource. some strikes are missed, at least compared to WeatherBug's lightning radar, but the notifications work well right out of the box, and strikes change color to show you how much time is left for a 30 min lightning delay.
I downloaded the app during a rainy Labor Day long weekend. I set the parameters for my preferences and within the hour I was being alerted of the lightening in the zone I had. But then I was getting alerts stating that "No lightening detected!". I let it go for the alert time limit I had set, and it did it again. I almost removed the app, but in the settings column, it was clearly posted that if you were having trouble with the app, you should contact them. I did and did not expect to see any...
This is the best Lightning tracker app I've found, and I have tried ALOT of them. It is simple, clean, easy to use, great features, and best of all it actually works and is accurate. I love the notifications and being able to zoom right in to the closest strike to you in seconds. It is worth it to get the pro version to support the development of this app and soon as I have the money I will do that. If the radar did a time span instead of stationary it would be better but it's not needed either
Overall the app is good and delivers the information without distracting graphics. With that said, if you have a range Circle and lightning is detected in that Circle there is no way to know if the storm is moving away from you and developing or, passing through parallel to you. The only way to know is if the radar shows animation with the particular cell that triggered the lightning detector. If the feature is added it would be a great upgrade and 5 STARS..
Was happy to find an app with both radar and real time lightening strikes. Super disappointed that the yellow "strike count" bubbles can not be toggled off. They obscure the radar when zooming out to get a better idea of a storm system moving through and where the most intense areas are. Totally pointless to have a radar feature when you can't see the radar. Is the strike count # more important that storm intensity? Turning off the radar feature doesn't seem to work either, once you've turned on
I really like this app. I had previously installed a weather app just for the lightning alerts. It had so many ads it was hard to see the info & it used so much data in just a short time, so I uninstalled it & found this one & it is great. The lightning alerts are fast & has a lot of settings to customize. I just wish it at least would specify(N,S,E,W & in between) or show the direction the storms are going-with arrows or something. A thunder/lightning sound for an alert sound would be nice too!
Useful Pop up warnings. Not too much advertising. I've just increase to 5 stars, now that I fully understand the settings and options. The buttons take a little bit of getting used to. A tutorial or help button would be helpful for beginners. If you are familiar with similar apps then you can guess what most settings and features do.
This app is absolutely phenomenal, likely the best free lightning app on the market, this app is also very accurate, had a lightning strike so close to my house, we had a power surge. I then looked on the app and it showed the strike was less then a 1/4 mile away. I also like the fact that you can set an alert radius so I can always know when to go inside and stay safe!
This is fine if you only want it for a warning app, but there are other good warning apps with better features. Some features are not well thought out. I don't like that the zoom button is hyper-local (maybe 1 mile) so you have to manually zoom back out to see your area. You will never be zoomed in that close to use the app. I dislike the huge "strike amount" bubbles as they obscure the view. No range rings--only your strike set area shown. Even though I was in the middle of a lighting storm, I never saw strikes being registered close by. It DOES let you know if lightning is in your set range, but there are much better apps than this out there.
I work in construction and operate a large excavator. this app is perfect for staying alive.
A good app. I'm responsible for lightning alerts at work. I appreciate that you can set the desired notification radius and frequency. Being able to click on a strike and see how long ago it occurred is nice. Two requests: please include the radius display on the main map in the Android version. I see the iphone version has this. Also, please change the notification radius setting control from a slider to a number input. The slider is clumsy.
This app has been excellent. I work as the head climbing instructor at a summer camp, and I have the notifications set to 20 miles, and they go directly to my Garmin watch. Gives me the ability to know instantly when we need to get climbers off the tower and do so with enough time for everyone to get inside. It's simple and straightforward to use, and I can't recommend it enough.
This has been a very good app until recently. Over the last 2 weeks it has become extremely unreliable. If there is nearby lightning, sometimes it will send an alert and sometimes it won't. And sometimes it will send an alert as much as 30 minutes after the lightning event. I'm not uninstalling yet, but that will be my next step if there is no improvement in the very near future.
Whether you can't get enough lightning in your life or fear it, a way to tell when a thunderstorm is coming is always useful. The app allows you to customize the range it'll notify you at, so you can get alerts when it concerns you. You can also see the precise spot lightning strikes as well as hotspots, giving you extra information that someone a bit better at analyzing than me could use to some fairly high extent.
